Even the letters Lindelof writes have time jumps and daddy issues
If this was any other channel, I wouldn't be so optimistic, but HBO has shown they can do intelligent, compelling, adult fantasy, that they are willing to give the budget a show like this would need to feel more like a movie than a TV show, and that they are willing to let their series develop and stand on their own (and not be obligated to try and appeal to A certain demographic and do your typical superhero show).
I like Lindelof. I'm not a fan of everything he's done, but I enjoyed Leftovers and I thought Lost was a really brilliant and original idea for a show. I think it could have been better if it weren't an ABC show with 23 episodes per season. But I really have no complaints about it. It was certainly one of a kind, and the first show to ever hook me in to the point of getting online and theorizing and reading theories after every episode aired
In other words, I think Lindelof is capable of doing really compelling things with the source material. And I think Watchmen makes for perfect source material for a quality HBO series. The different time periods to explore, the dark psychological aspects, the allegory and social commentary, the existential themes.
But I'm more confused now, after reading his letter. So, everything in the graphic novel happened, and now we are 30 years later, with the original characters either elderly or dead? Or is he bringing the events of Watchmen up to modern times, and we will be starting out shortly after the climax of the graphic novel?
I'm assuming we'll be seeing a lot of flashbacks and time jumps, but even still, it would be a bummer to me if Rorschach is already dead when the show starts out
I have a lot of questions at the moment, but even still, this is probably my most anticipated and exciting new film/series that is coming out, and I can't wait to get more information
