Watchmen HBO Eyeing ‘Watchmen’ TV Series from Damon Lindelof

Don't be fooled by those dummy casting sheets. Those are looking for actors with certain attributes, in this case can exude the authority of a policeman that will translate to the actually role of superhero. Lost often cast evil henchmen under the guise of casting cops (like Bonnie and Greta from Lost). The casting sheets for Once Upon a Time said they were casting Sinbad and Scheherezade, when the were actually casting Aladin and Jasmine.

You could be right about that.

Interesting. I don't know but I'm getting good vibes from this.

I'm expecting a critically acclaimed show.

I despise the final seasons of Lost, but if The Leftovers is any indication... I'm expecting great things from HBO and Lindelof working together again.

Seems about right.

Certainly an interesting look for the cops. Don Johnson tho!

Even the letters Lindelof writes have time jumps and daddy issues :D

If this was any other channel, I wouldn't be so optimistic, but HBO has shown they can do intelligent, compelling, adult fantasy, that they are willing to give the budget a show like this would need to feel more like a movie than a TV show, and that they are willing to let their series develop and stand on their own (and not be obligated to try and appeal to A certain demographic and do your typical superhero show).

I like Lindelof. I'm not a fan of everything he's done, but I enjoyed Leftovers and I thought Lost was a really brilliant and original idea for a show. I think it could have been better if it weren't an ABC show with 23 episodes per season. But I really have no complaints about it. It was certainly one of a kind, and the first show to ever hook me in to the point of getting online and theorizing and reading theories after every episode aired

In other words, I think Lindelof is capable of doing really compelling things with the source material. And I think Watchmen makes for perfect source material for a quality HBO series. The different time periods to explore, the dark psychological aspects, the allegory and social commentary, the existential themes.

But I'm more confused now, after reading his letter. So, everything in the graphic novel happened, and now we are 30 years later, with the original characters either elderly or dead? Or is he bringing the events of Watchmen up to modern times, and we will be starting out shortly after the climax of the graphic novel?

I'm assuming we'll be seeing a lot of flashbacks and time jumps, but even still, it would be a bummer to me if Rorschach is already dead when the show starts out

I have a lot of questions at the moment, but even still, this is probably my most anticipated and exciting new film/series that is coming out, and I can't wait to get more information

"It's not TV, it's HBO".

I mean, I'm very excited about this. HBO took the "mafia genre" (if we can call it that) and made something unique with Sopranos. They took crime drama and made something unique with The Wire. They took western and made something unique with Deadwood. They took epic fantasy and made something unique with Game of Thrones. Not to mention Rome, Westworld, Carnivale, The Leftovers, etc... I'm super excited to see what they're going to do "costumed heroes".

I can't say there has been much on HBO I haven't liked. Im happy to see what they do with this. :)

You make a strong case... :yay:

I see the irony in HBO being a Time Warner company and making more compelling comic book-ish stuff than their sister affiliates.

Yeah, it's too bad the Snyder cast was already used in that film, because the Comedian, Rorschach, Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl and Sally Jupiter were all perfect. Only Ozymandias & Silk Spectre were glaringly miscast.

I didn't mind Akerman too much although I did find her a bit bland, but Goode (as much as I like him) was definitely miscast as Veidt. The others as you say were spot on.

Chris Evans as Ozymandias (he’s the closest we have to Redford)

I could definitely see Chris Evans as Ozy!

Intrinsic chamber talks with Moscow.... wonder if just a easter egg or will be a main idea that the Goverment(s) are trying to recreate Dr Manhattan? If this takes place in a world where the world isn't aware about the hoax then trying to recreate Dr Man is the perfect way to protect from 'aliens'.

My excitement/anticipation level for this is beginning to rise...
