HBO's Game of Thrones - - Part 16

I thought the new Mountain was a vast improvement over season 2's. This guy actually looks like the character.

I'm curious...

As to what the show's going to do with Bronn, now. In the books, he's been MIA since parting ways with Tyrion. Occasionally mentioned, but not actually seen. And well away from the larger plot. He's developed quite the fanbase on the show, though. Will they find a way to reinsert him into the story?

Well, in my humble opinion:
(AFFC spoilers)
they could send Bronn with Jaime.
Considering Bronn is replacing Ser Ilyn Payne, it's not madness to think that he can actually be Payne's replacement again during Jaime' trips in the Riverlands.
They could continue their training.

I've made my peace with Coldhands removal from the narrative. While I did not care for Jon Snow and the others taking care of the mutineers, I did like the like the one line Craster's Wife said: where she hit home on the similarities between Craster and the Night's Watch on their treatment of women. Plus, it was satisfying seeing that pig sty burn to the ground.

That Hot Pie and his gravy talk lol

Littlefinger is such a creeper. When he just appeared out of nowhere in that snowy garden in the vale I thought WTF?

You live by the moon door you die by the moon door.

Red Viper seems only interested in sex and killing Lannisters.

The new mountain doesn't look anywhere near as intimidating as the old ones.

The Dutch cast members went nude this week with Carice Van Houten and Michel Huisman stripping off.

I thought Melisandre and Selyse Baratheon about to make out during that bath scene after Mel kept exposing herself to Selyse and Selyse kept stealing glances at her.

The atmosphere was definitely electric during that scene. I've been meaning to say this for a long time - but keep forgetting-but, damn, Carice Van Houten is gorgeous.

I agree with you about Bronn going with Jamie. He'll be taking Ilyn Payne's place I guess.

Is it possible that they

won't kill off the red viper?

I'd love to see this happen but I highly doubt it.

LOL Tumblr and Twitter will explode next, next week once he dies. More so for those who haven't read the books. He's really become a very popular character.

I'm not looking forward to seeing him die either and I already know that he will. :funny:

I think the real question will be not IF he dies, but how he dies.
In the books, the Mountain beat his head into a pulp basically, and got into graphic detail about his eyes, teeth, and brain. even if Oberyn basically "won" in the end.

Well, not next week. The new episode will air June 1st.

First off, I understand if a writer wants to kill off a character for whatever reason, they're going to do it.

With that being said, after having watched the Mountain fight and swing a sword, It still bugs me that some people don't roll and strike. He's not as fast as some say he is.

He is supposed to be so big he swings a great sword with one hand, that's insane. Anyone that can do that will just cut you down as you roll, along with the fact that you will be pissing yourself just looking at him. He is like 8 feet tall and moves quickly too, granted in mail and plate he is slower he will still track you done if not by shear skill then by the outrageous length of the weapon he chooses.

Well, the Mountain from the books defies logic, because he's a fictional character. The actor can only do so much. He's limited by real world rules.

One thing I've noticed they haven't managed to work into conversation in the show is the fact that Oberyn is a feared combatant in his own right. Viewers that haven't read the books are just being asked to assume he's a bad ass.

I've noticed this. No one has utter the words Red Viper yet either.

If my calculations are correct, we're looking at at least one important character death per episode for the rest of the season:

Episode 8 - Oberyn :csad:

Episode 9 - Ygritte :csad: , possibly a few other Night's Watch and Wildlings

Episode 10 - Shae and Tywin

As far as the fight next week, question for you book readers:

[BLACKOUT]Do you think that Oberyn's death will be as gory as described in the books?[/BLACKOUT]

And yet the next episode is actually titled "The Mountain and The Viper."

I suspect we'll get a lot of Oberyn exposition in the early stages of the ep.

I'd say yes, if only because it's supposed to directly mirror how the Mountain killed Elia and "Aegon."

Though I know they typically like to close with Dany... The arrival of a Stoneheart just HAS to be the final scene of the season. Nothing else would make sense.

Man, you guys were right about Oberyn. I ****ing love this guy. I think he may just be my favorite character of the season. Jon is a close second, though. I think Pascal has done a great job stealing scenes, just with great performances everytime he seems to be onscreen. His scene with Tyrion was amazing. That sense of honor, and thirst for justice is just something great to see. It was really sad to hear the story of how far back Cersei's hatred of Tyrion went, and even sort of how pure of heart the Martells must be that even as small children they'd speak out. And the tears in Oberyn's eyes as he contemplates the justice he wants for his dead sister and niece and nephews was powerful. Tyrion's reaction to having a champion felt earnest and heartfelt.

That was just a ****ing beautiful scene to see unfold.

Tyrion's scenes this episode were all quite memorable, too. I thought his scene with Bronn was about as perfect as it could have been, because ultimately it seemed like a realist explaining a perfectly logical decision to another realist. And it was great to see Bronn point out that if Tyrion were in the same situation, he'd do the same. It's the kind of thing where you could see anyone being really emotional and not allow themselves to understand and be hypocritical. But, seeing Tyrion understand made it all work for me.

I'm not seeing Dany as 'mad with power' or anything. So far, I've very much understood her reasoning. And, wanting the avenge and bring justice to the deaths of innocent men, women and children is just way too understandable for me to begrudge her of wanting to have all the masters murdered. So far, I just think that I've understood and can see the reasoning. And hey, she deserved to get some action. She's been celibate since about the end of season one, once Drogo was lost. So, good for her. Better for that sonof***** Daario.

And too bad for us not getting a sex scene. :(

Is it just me, or does anyone else get infuriated by the utter stupidity of Alliser Thorne and Janos Slynt at the Night's Watch?

Just.... My God

I don't think the show was trying to make Dany seem "mad with power," so much as it was making the point that she's still young, and untested as a leader.

I think they've done a good job of conveying that. Her taking Jorah's counsel also seems to bode well for her growth as a leader, too.

Book 3 spoilers:

I was hoping they'd end season three with Stoneheart. At the time, I was disappointed when it didn't happen, but looking back on it I'm kind of glad they didn't. If it's Brienne and Pod who find her it'll be way more perfect than just the Brotherhood finding her. There's no way they can end this season without it. And non-book readers will go ape **** when it happens. The only thing that worries me slightly is that there hasn't even been a report of a Michelle Fairley sighting on set, but they would keep that a guarded secret anyway. But besides that, Lady Stoneheart as the last scene fits with them wrapping up on a supernatural note like the first two seasons did.

The i09 review about this episode said it best

"Jon Snow Knows Everything... But Nobody Listens" :woot:
