HBO's Game of Thrones - - - - Part 13

The show is such a cash cow for HBO that I don't see budget being a problem. I mean, how many other HBO shows have a line of action figures? This is a juggernaut that will probably surpass The Sopranos when all is said and done. As long as the ratings keep skyrocketing and the merchandise keeps selling, I don't think HBO will say no to an extra million here and there added to the budget.

They would be faced with extra millions if they have to renegotiate the cast's salaries. Look at the size of that cast. Look at how people react when a minor character like Daario is recast. They would be paying so, so much money to keep the core actors around, assuming none get killed off in Season 6 or 7 up to that point.

Besides, I see no reason to stretch the series out in order to wait on GRRM. I respect Martin, but I'll be stunned if we see AWOW in 2015. And that is the only way he'd stay ahead of the show...for a season. Come Season 7 (whether at the beginning or middle) they'd overtake him again, and the idea that he'd produce ADOS by 2017 is laughable.

The show is going to pass the books. It is inevitable at this point. Why stretch out a finite story to 10 seasons if it can be told in 7 or 8? Go out on top instead of milking it for the last penny. And then when you bring in cast negotiations, the increased profit would shrink considerably.

So....

Am I correct to assume this Sunday's episode is Joffery's final episode?

[blackout]A sad day[/blackout]

It's actually been happening recently with some of the most talked about show, Breaking bad's final half season had the numbers constantly going up and The Walking Dead has risen up quite impressivelly and become one of the most watch shows on the USA.
Oh great. I don't know much about TV but I'd heard most of these big series lose viewers in later seasons. I guess Breaking Bad wasn't very long (or didn't seem it after watching on a few days on Netflix) so could keep the drama up and escalating to the conclusion from what was definitely a very good novelty idea early on. I don't think it would have worked so well with another 3 seasons. And that's good to hear on Walking Dead. What season is that up to? I think GoT will have a ridiculous figure going into its final season.

Btw do you know what US TV shows had the highest viewing numbers in the past?

question about joffrey...
what ends up happening with his new sword???

ah ...doh.. i shoulda known that.

It happens to the best of us. I forget stuff from the books all the time. :D

six seasons. nice. now, HBO, bring Mads Mikkelsen as Euron, Ray Winstone and Brendan Gleeson in whatever roles you want. just bring them in

GRRM cracks me up.. "Two Swords" translated to more than six million viewers. (Just imagine if we'd had three or four or five swords!!)."

Those books are gonna get destroyed when they don't match people's fanfictions. :o

I'd be fine if they truncated the Kingsmoot next season, using it to establish the dynamics between Euron, Aeron and Victarion. Aeron in particular
as GRRM has said he'll play a big role in the last novels

It would be nice if GRRM's work hadn't taken a nosedive these last 14 years leaving most little hope that the finale will be worth it. :o

Oh I don't think it's necessary for the series to continue past season 8 either, but I just think that if push came to shove, HBO would probably give in to larger budget requests, because it's their flagship show.
