i think what bothered me more was listening to the kids speak. we're all aware that the voice acting could be hit and miss with a couple characters, but i think all the kids were painful to listen to.

GamesRadar had a good article on nitpicky distractions in Heavy Rain. First among their concerns? The accents, of course.

(WARNING: There are some curse words on the site and in the videos.)

Seriously. They were so... freaking... bad. Couldn't they get some kids from tv shows or who do voice work for cartoons? They all sounded so bland in this game.

I'm guessing they recorded the voices in France, where they're located. So they stuck with local (or at least European) talent. Although, given how terrible some of the actors' American accents are, I'm really curious why Jacqui Ainsley's (British) voice wasn't used for Madison. Why record an actual American for Madison alone?

All things considered, they should've really just set the game in Europe somewhere. It'd make a lot more sense, going beyond their accents and including even word choices and stuff. GamesRader hits the nail right on the head with that "wasteland" reference. I heard "wasteland" and thought about Fallout and other post-apocalyptic deserts, and then I realized that made no sense. The only thing I could come up with that might be what they meant is a landfill. Turned out that was wrong too, which I found out after Jayden's intro scene. That area is not something that would've come into my mind for "wasteland," like, ever.

i wondered why Madison was the only one i didnt have complaints about :oldrazz:. like the two scenes where [BLACKOUT]Ethan loses his kids[/BLACKOUT] and you call out their names....ughhhh... some people argue this game has better graphics than Uncharted 2, which i'll leave for a different discussion, but the voice acting was more often than not distracting.

Yeah, it really does rob some of the more emotional scenes of a bit of their impact. I tried to ignore it as much as I could, and the fact that the game is so intriguing helps, but there are times where it leaps out at you.

So, how long was Heavy Rain now in the making? And have developers said anything about that they are satisfied how the game is doing?

I'm already looking forward to their next game entry. Is there something you'd especially like to see? Like a certain location or maybe even time period? I'm thinking a Sherlock Holmes type story would be pretty cool to play.

Sooooo.....renter or buyer?
its worth buying. its a short game, but because of the multiple choices and endings its worth going back for more. plus theyre releasing DLC i think today that fleshes out the story. just dont judge it by the first hour or two.

I hope...

they flesh out Ethan's story and explain his blackouts and why he awakens with Origami figures in his hand. Right now it makes no freaking sense.

i could be wrong, but i think i remember hearing the first two DLCs will be about Madison and Jayden.

That's good. Madison seemed kind of like a cipher to me. It didn't feel like she had much characterization; she was basically an appendage to Ethan in their scenes together and working solely to help Ethan when she was on her own.

OK, cool. Thanks for the recommendation. I actually found the game on Craigslist for $40. The ad said that he/she had already beaten it. I bet that $40 that he/she didn't get all of the endings. So his/her loss is my gain.

I wonder if they will explain why Jayden uses the ARI. Or why the FBI gives it to their Agents in the first place, if it can cause hallucinations or massive brain damage. Hell, he even bleeds out of his eyes.

yeah i always felt Madison was kinda shoehorned in [BLACKOUT]just to have an excuse to have naked chick in a game :oldrazz:, kidding.[/BLACKOUT] but i was on IGN today and they still had the different flash ads for the game and it says for Madison "You're a reporter trying to break the story of a lifetime. But are you willing to cross your own boundaries?"- something along those lines. but...
they never really explored that about her character. we know shes a photographer/ photo journalist but thats it, and shes just stumbles in Ethan's life and becomes his sidekick. though now her ending makes more sense with her writing a book- kinda made her look like a vulture capitalizing on a tragic event. so i hope it goes into that....and more showers :woot:.

I'm thinking it was a combination of overuse mixed with drug addiction. Used in moderate I'd assume it wouldn't be that bad.

By the way, is the DLC episode up yet? I haven't checked

they made it seem like those glasses werent exactly government issue, and to counteract the effects of prolonged use meant taking a drug that got worse for you the more you used it.

Really? When did they say or imply that? I don't remember anything like that

well no, they never come outright and say it. thats just what i took away from it. he gets sick and his nose bleeds after working with the glasses, your given a choice whether to take the drug or not, and he has that vision/hallucination warning him about both.

Vision/hallucation? You mean the bartender guy or did I miss something

i think so. he put on the glasses, was in his virtual office, and a man stood there pretty much saying hes killing himself.

Ah, I didn't know that was suppose to be an hallucination.

Over a week after release and QD still hasnt fixxed the bugs. With FF XIII coming out in a few days, it looks like I'll be skipping Heavy Rain until the summer. Sucks bc I was so excited about it and have been waiting months for its release

I believe Javi's right, in my first run,
I solved the crime completely with him, and during the last attempt he's having problems. He gets warned again by the butler not to overuse it or he could die (plus the butler wasn't there before when he was in the FBI room, but appears after he put on the glasses, this is near the end). Then you constantly see this "Exit Ari" option floating over your head. I solved it anyway. During the ending he tosses the drug down a toilet. Then while working on what appears to be another case he starts seeing miniture blue virutal tanks appear on his desk. He takes the glasses off, rubs his eyes, but then the tanks appear in front of him even without the glasses. They aim at him and he puts his hands up in defense, and that was the last part of his ending for me.

You probably have since you said you tried everything, but just in case, have you deleted the game install data? Maybe during install, or after, something got corrupted. It also might have been thanks to the PS3 error you got earlier. I'd try deleting the game data one more time, then start the install again and go get a sandwich or something when your busy with something else.
