On December 14th 2022, it was announced that Cavil will not be returning as Superman, which I must admit even as a person who was overall ambivalent on Cavil’s Supes I felt bad for him as it seems it genuinely liked the character and wanted to do right by him, and he never had the opportunity to play Superman in a movie that is well liked by mainstream audiences across the board. I wonder how many of you will miss Henry Cavil as the Big Blue Boy Scout?

No. I thought he did a pretty good job in MoS and he looked the part, but I've got so tired and bored of this 'will he/won't he be back' that I've lost interest and am more than ready to see a new take on the character.

It was neat to see how comic accurate he looked, while also really washing away any idea of Superman being cheesy (a testament to Snyder more than anything), and I thought he did well for what was required of the character in Snyder’s films.

But no. I think it’s time to bring back the cheese, the joy, the romance of the Superman property, and I’m excited to see a new actor who’s capable (probably more capable than Cavill) of bringing that to life.

I personally think a lot of hardcore Cavill fans don’t realise how much better it can be.

On one hand, I'm sympathetic to Cavill's situation because he always went in with good intentions and he wanted the chance to truly play the character. He just was never given that chance.

At the same time, it's hard for me to be sad when I've never truly gotten into his performance.

Henry never really felt like Superman to me, even though he had multiple movies to play the character. I don't know, something was missing... (But you can blame Snyder for that) Also that terrible origin story of MoS would always stick to his version, so I get why they want to start over with someone else.

I'll more miss the potential that I think he had that was never realized. The abruptness of the news stings as well, so close to the big announcement that he'd be back. The bipolar decision making with the DC execs does not instill in me confidence that they know what they're doing.

I wouldn't exactly say I'll miss him, but I was interested in seeing what he'd be like in a soft-rebooted Superman post-Flashpoint timeline and what his cameo in Black Adam would lead towards. It's really weird that they got us all mentally prepped for that direction only for it to be dumped a few weeks after. Like a hard reboot is what I wanted in the first place, it would've been nothing but pure hype if they'd just announced a hard reboot back when Gunn took over. Instead I've got mixed feelings with a bit of cautious optimism.

Hopefully this whole Cavill fakeout business is just one last stupid DCEU screw-up for the road, rather than an omen of things to come.

No.

His Superman was tainted from the very start with a characterisation that was largely awful.

I don't blame him for any of the mess created by Snyder and the executives at WB, but he's forever linked to a very poor period of film making, and he needed to go.

He'll be much happier off doing stuff that's less pressure, anyway. His true passion is Warhammer 40k, so it'd be nice if he can get something with that off the ground.

I genuinely won't. No offense to the guy but he never clicked with me. Nevermind the problems I had with Snyder's take on the character. Cavill just did not have the right balance between charisma and likability.

Well that's interesting. I'll say now that I have long had the feeling that Cavill is an egotistical a**hole - to the point where I've just not commented on discussions about 'what a nice guy he is'. I don't know what it is, but I feel it really strongly. There's something there. I could be completely wrong, but if all of the above is true it really does not surprise me.

Deuxmoi is...very 50/50 in getting accurate information so would it surprise me that he wanted more control? No. Do I think he became unprofessional to the point where he was constantly late and all that jazz? No.

I like Cavill ,but no, I won't miss his Superman.

Christopher Reeve is, and will always be my Superman, and I've seen several actors play the part of Clark Kent since Reeve last donned the cape.

So , I don't have the attachment that other fans may have to Cavill as Superman.

Some of the phrasing in that story seemed a bit odd and slanted to me.

It was weird. He looked the part 100%, but he acted more like how Batman/bruce would act. Dark and brooding.

I won't miss him but not maliciously. I had given up on his Superman in 2017. I know he's just now officially out but I've been expecting a new Superman actor since then
