Hercules 3D (2014) dir. by Renny Harlin starring Kellan Lutz

Above average is everywhere these days any dude that has decent genetic and puts in hard effort can look that good, Adkins on the other hand I would say has a much better than average physique but were talking acting here not just looks alone.

By average I meant above amongst Hollywood actors. He's probably one of the bigger guys. And shockingly this is his regular shape basically. The director called him up 9 days before filming began to tell him he was cast. Lutz said ideally he would have liked 4-5 months of preparation, so this is him turning up as is on set. There are only 1 or 2 actors who could play such a physically demanding role with only a 9 day warning.

Physique is one of the most important facets of any superheroic characters and that part Lutz portrays well enough, no complaints on that front, its everything else where he fails. Seriously no dynamism in his acting at all.

Adkins on the other hands, has a truly outstanding physique, probably better than all Hollywood's so called "A listers" and he brought a ferocious wrath to his performance that was amazing. He reminded me a lot of Gerard Butler in 300 in this performance and that's a compliment, I think he was superb, spitting out his words with pure venom (he plays a bad guy) but also very badass. He is obviously incomparable when it comes to action scenes. I know people here on SHH absolutely hate Adkins but I think he is really a much better actor than he gets credit for.

For some reason Millenium want to make Lutz into their big star.
It won't work. I don't think he is a viable leading man. The most important characteristic of any leading man is to engage the audience. Lutz is very unengaging and very boring as an actor.

I wish Millennium tried to make a big theatrical star out of Adkins. That dude is seriously just slumming in Direct to DVD films. Its a pity really. His physical talent is jaw-dropping and his acting is better than many of the stiff Hollywood stars. He belongs on the big screen.

Agree, I wish someone would pick up Adkins and do his Yuri Boyka character right. He did fine in The Expendables series and the guy is very athletic and does amazing martial arts stunts.

...AND is a credible actor

I like Adkins I just haven't seen him in anything that required all that much acting, any recommendations?

Watched this the other day, how the hell did it cost 70 million dollars? It looked a bit cheaper than that, was the production also rushed?

Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.

Millenium Films means always subtract from the announced budget. The Expendables was stated to cost $80 million, when the reality was more in the $50 to $60 million range, Part 2 was also in that range. The Mechanic was said to cost $40, but it's definitely in the $20 million range.
