Heroes Reborn General Discussion

She has her own series debuting soon and if it succeeds it will push back the prospects of a mini-series or movie even further.

There's always summer break. She also will be guest starring on Hannibal season two while Crisis airs.

The only character that I would want to return is Hiro, but beyond that, the show just needs to be rebuilt from the ground up with a new cast and story.

For episode one, get the person who helmed the pilots for all of these series to direct:

Space: Above and Beyond
Millennium
Roswell
Dark Angel
Smallville
Supernatural
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
The Mentalist
Arrow

I call bull ****. People blame the strike for this show failing, but Chuck had its best season following the strike. 24 had one of its stronger seasons following the strike. Same with Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock and so on and so forth. Several shows bounced back from the strike. The strike can MAYBE be blamed for the weak second season, but seasons 3 and 4 (both produced following the strike) were inexcusably bad.

Exactly, there are no excuses for Seasons 3 & 4, they got two more chances to get it right and they didn't. Hopefully, they will be able to do great storytelling again with a shorter season, time will tell.

Well, I will say season 4 was noticeably better than 3. It seemed like they had regained their focus and had a clear trajectory...but in the end it couldnt save them ratings wise. Season 3 was just an absolute catastrophic mess however.

True. Alison Brie does this but I'm not sure that Gillian Anderson is going to try stretching herself this thin with three series and/or a movie going on at once in a single year.

I'm extremely on the fence about it. On the upside, maybe a limited run with a clear endpoint is exactly what the brains behind this show need to make it work, since that's basically what Season 1 was.

Can't forget Mohinder Suresh. He was probably the only other person besides HRG that really should have been in every season under the show's original concept. Only those two should be brought back. A lot of available tv talent out there to build a strong cast so people forget or don't throw a big fuss when the cheerleader & boogie man are not among the returning characters. Jon Bernthal anyone? Hell, the cast of Psych will be available. Ziva form NCIS, where are you?

well, with Sendhil Ramamurthy being a regular on Beauty and the Beast right now, and with the distinct possibility of it being cancelled this year, that might free him up for a return as Mohinder...

The producers never fixed the show's problems because they did what a lot of shows do when the audience starts bailing: they doubled down. "Fans hate what we're doing? They're wrong! We'll just give them more of the same and eventually they'll "get it" and understand that everything was fine all along." That sort of arrogance has destroyed many a show.

I believe that is what the original plans was. I don't any of the characters from season 1 were meant to appear in season 2 but everyone loved them and the anthology series was virtually dead at that point so they kept the characters. Now with American Horror Story and possibly True Detective it could work.

However they do need someone from the original series because I'm sure that's what people are expecting with 24 coming back with most of the originals coming back. The only one who needs to return is HRG.

Tim Kring has always been the biggest problem with this show, imo, so I don't imagine it will magically return as a quality series if he's still at the helm.

Hey! Season 3 and especially Season 4 weren't bad! I liked them! :cmad:

You all are just...just...HEROES HATERS!!

American Horror Story is different in that it's the same actors playing different characters every season. I don't think Heroes would work well like that. As for returning characters, Hiro is a must. Maybe a small role for HRG, a cameo for Peter, maybe throw in a few other cameos, but it should be a 90% new cast.

Arrogance? They were right. The show was fine the way it was. The writers have every to do what they want. It was them trying to cater to so-called "fans" that botched a good chunk of season 3. That and the dang writers strike. Loser whining ruins everything. The only people that destroyed Heroes is you.

I'm probably the only one who was a fan of Season 3. Danko made for a great villain.

But I agree, Heroes Reborn needs a new cast, and I think that's what the "Reborn" implies. Though if I had to pick anyone to return eventually it'd be Milo Ventimiglia as Peter. Always a personal favorite character of mine.

Bull. The writers strike botched their original season 2 plan. 4 was okay. And 3 was mostly bad due to a desire to cater to fanboys and changes in the writers room, resulting in an alteration to the direction of season.

You're confusing s3 with volume 4. Fugitives was decent mostly. V3 Villains was where most of the problems lie. You can really tell that they had to alter their story several times to fit casting and writers room changes. But I agree, Danko was a good solid villain. And I like Peter too.

Although never as good as Heroes' first season, Alphas was better than most seasons of Heroes IMO, the story was more focused and the characters more likeable. Pity freaking SyFy canceled it despite an awesome cliffhanger, it really deserves to return. Damn you SyFy!! :argh:

alla the above for SURE... Alphas WAS way better than Heroes, in MY estimation, as well...

Once Eureka was cancelled the last show from the Sci-Fi era was now washed away (unless Warehouse 13 counts...). I avoid SyFy all together now missing the old days, they do have some decent shows but nothing compared to what come before. I first watched Heroes on Sci-Fi when they had a marathon. :awesome:

Are you actually being serious?

4 was mediocre I agree, but I think 3 had other reasons for being completely crappy.

Agreed, Aplhas was freakin' awesome.

That show sucked ass after the first season. That's what killed it. The producers never catered to the fans one damn bit. They plowed headlong with their poorly plotted, badly written tripe as the ratings steadily declined. If they had been right, as you claim, people wouldn't have quit watching in droves, to the point where cancellation was a mercy killing. By the time Heroes died a well-deserved death only a few people too stubborn or stupid to quit watching it were left, anyway.

I'd be way more excited about this if Tim Kring wasn't involved. He was the single reason why this show completely bombed after the second season.

The only thing the writers strike could be blamed for was the curtailed second season, anything after that was all Kring and his writing team.

I think they got caught up in a lot of mystery and reveals for the sheer sake of having mysteries on the show; in other words, they got a bit too focused on trying to copy LOST in all the wrong angles when their strength had been embracing classic superhero tropes and cliches. It's why Danko was pretty cool, and why Season 4 seemed to get back on track.

But Villains was the biggest wasted potential in the entire show. They actually did an adequate job of gathering and building up these opposing sides to fight each other, but then had both self-destruct with maybe one actual conflict between the two companies. You don't call a storyline "Villains," build up an antagonistic ensemble cast, play with defections and Darth Vader style reveals, just to have the Season One badguy go back to the exact same MO as he had the first time and job your new main villain.

Seriously! At least show HRG taking on one of the other characters and kicking his butt! Or have the strength-through-fear guy pick a fight with someone who can stand their ground against him! Or have a flamethrower showdown!

You don't try and copy Superman Returns for your plot-outline ideas!
