Heroes vs. 24: Ratings Battle

Fast National ratings for Monday, Oct. 15, 2007

ABC got a strong premiere from its comedy "Samantha Who?" Monday, which helped carry the network to a ratings win.

For the night, ABC averaged a 10.3 rating/16 share, beating out CBS' 7.9/12. FOX, 6.5/10, came in third (with those numbers subject to change due to live sports). NBC's 5.4/8 was good for fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.8/3.

ABC also snagged a victory among adults 18-49, drawing a 4.2 rating to edge CBS' 4.1. NBC, 3.7, came in third in the key ad demographic. FOX averaged 2.9 and The CW 1.0.

"Dancing with the Stars," 12.4/19, dominated the 8 p.m. hour for ABC. FOX's coverage of the American League Championship Series finished second at 6.6/10. "How I Met Your Mother," 5.2/8, and "The Big Bang Theory," 5.4/8, put CBS in third among households, but NBC's "Chuck" (5.0/7) had a few more viewers. The CW went with "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Aliens in America."

The conclusion of "Dancing," 13.3/19, and "Samantha Who?," 10.2/15, kept ABC on top at 9 p.m., as "Samantha" held more of its lead-in than "The Bachelor" has in recent weeks. CBS moved up to second with "Two and a Half Men," 8.9/13, and "Rules of Engagement," 7.0/10. "Heroes" scored a 6.8/10 for NBC, dropping FOX's baseball game to fourth. "Girlfriends" and "The Game" averaged 1.8/3 for The CW.

At 10 p.m., "CSI: Miami" posted a 10.4/17 for CBS. "The Bachelor," 6.7/11, was second for NBC, while NBC's "Journeyman" drew a 4.5/7. FOX's ratings for the hour weren't available.

Looks like the show managed to retain some of its audience after a considerable drop, but it looks like it´s no longer the phenomen it was in its first season.

actually, the ratings this year have been slightly above last years...

??? NBC's whole night is down compared to last year's DoND, Heroes and Studio 60. Heroes like many other returning shows are down this year.

NBC’s Chuck opened the evening fourth in both total viewers (7.14 million) and adults 18-49 (2.8/ 7), with a series-low in both categories. One year earlier in the time period was Deal or No Deal at 13.16 million viewers and a 3.7/10 in the demo. It’s official...Chuck is a loser this week. That led into Heroes, at 10.70 million viewers (#3) and 4.9/12 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m., followed by fading Journeyman third in both total viewers (6.28 million) and adults 18-49 (2.5/ 6) at 10 p.m.

Interesting that Heroes is dropping. With Tony returning and 24 looking to be back on track, I wonder what will happen this year?

It takes a while for the Tivo ratings to come in, more shows are being recorded and while it does little to change, some shows like The Office see a nice bump when they are added on top. So maybe more people are recording it?

Grey's Tops Week Two in DVR Playback

Marc Berman

OCTOBER 26, 2007 -

Nielsen Media Research has issued the second week of DVR playback data, via the total number of viewers in millions and by percentage. Using the two weeks of available data (Sept. 24–Oct. 7, 2007), chart No. 1 is broken out by the top 10 shows in total number of viewers in millions based on live-plus-same-day data (live viewing and same-day DVR playback), plus live-plus-seven-day data (which includes people who watched on DVRs within seven days of the original airing), minus the one live day. The two combined equal the total number of viewers watching these programs via a DVR.

Grey’s Anatomy (ABC): 1.76 + 2.04 = 3.80 million
House (Fox): 1.49 + 1.83 = 3.32
Heroes (NBC): 1.58 + 1.66 = 3.24
CSI (CBS): 1.32 + 1.83 = 3.16
Desperate Housewives (ABC): 1.39 + 1.13 = 2.52
The Office (NBC): 1.18 + 1.28 = 2.46
Survivor: China (CBS): 1.35 + 878,000 = 2.23
Bionic Woman (NBC): 731,000 + 1.24 = 1.97
Private Practice (ABC): 887,000 + 1.02 = 1.91
Criminal Minds (CBS): 643,000 + 1.15 = 1.79

Chart No. 2, which is also based on the two weeks, uses the same parameters -- live-plus-same-day plus live-plus-seven-day data (minus the one live day). The two combined equal the total percent of viewers watching these programs via a DVR.

The Office (NBC): 11.3 + 12.3 = 23.6 percent
Heroes (NBC): 9.8 + 10.3 = 20.1
Bones (Fox): 8.6 + 8.9 = 17.5
Grey’s Anatomy (ABC): 8.1 + 9.4 = 17.5
House (Fox): 7.6 + 9.3 = 16.9
Survivor: China (CBS): 8.9 + 5.8 = 14.7
Bionic Woman (NBC): 5.3 + 9.0 = 14.3
Private Practice (ABC): 6.1 + 7.1 = 13.2
Desperate Housewives (ABC): 7.0 + 5.7 = 12.7
CSI (CBS): 5.3 + 7.3 = 12.6
