Oh yeah, I got temporary amnesia and forgot he is already Marvels.

What other Chrises are there for DC to swipe out from under Marvel?

Chris Cooper?
Chris Colfer?
Chris Crocker?

Oh God. :o

Really happy to hear about Pine being cast as Steve Trevor. It's a good move for him - playing Hal Jordan would have been a bit too close to his Kirk role.

On a feminist note, I'm happy that they got a well-known actor like Pine to play Trevor against relative unknown Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Over in the comments section for the SHH story announcing the news, I saw a lot of fan boys saying that they'd wished Pine were playing GL instead. It's like they were frowning on him for playing a mere "love interest," when that kind of stock role is something most actresses have to take on as a matter of course.
Thankyou for articulating my thoughts exactly. I too find it insulting that women who are even more accomplished than Pine get cast as love interests all the time and we don't hear any complaining but the second a male gets that type of role we hear complaints. It's a ridiculous double standard. Good on Pine for accepting the role and I hope it's a well written one.

Now DC just needs to get Chris Pratt.

I like this casting. Filming this/Star Trek wont be a problem since he wont play as huge of a role so they can work around it.

Wonder Woman's start date isn't confirmed yet but I assume if it's sometime in the Fall then they'll just shoot the scenes that don't require Pine first.

Colfer for Etta Candy.

I like Pine for this and I think he made the right call signing on for this instead of a superhero role. His success in this is guaranteed, just like the movie is guaranteed to be a hit.

The other thing is that we don't know for sure if Pine was really offered both Trevor and or Hal/GL.

If he was, than his decision was possibly made easier by WW being ahead as far as production with a director, writer with a script, producers and female lead role already set.

GLCorp film isn't that far along quite yet.

That report basically says he was never offered GL. That's why not a single trade ran with that "story"

Lol WB would not let him choose 1 or the other.

Can we just rename Charlie Hunnam into Chris Hunnam and have him join DC?

Wow, people are actually *****ing about it? That's a mega-fail, fanboys. :down

But according to [insert click bait comic book movie site here] he was supposed to be Hal Jordan.:o

It's good to finally have some confirmation though. And since Pine has multi-picture deal as Trevor, maybe Patty is placing the film in a modern setting. fingers crossed

Interesting.

I wonder if he did a chemistry test with Gal Gadot or whether he was predominantly cast because of actor recognition / star factor?

Although I'm not a huge fan of Chris Pine's acting, I think he will be serviceable in the role of Steve Trevor.

My primary reservation is whether their choice to cast an ... A-List (or close to A-List) actor in what would ordinarily be a "supporting" role indicates that Wonder Woman will essentially be the co-star in her own film.

Then again, if memory serves me correctly, at the time of casting Man of Steel, Amy Adams' star power completely eclipsed Henry Cavill's own star power and Man of Steel certainly wasn't about the exciting adventures of "Lois Lane, plus some dude who can fly".

Like others, I do wonder what the multi-picture deal means for the time setting for the Wonder Woman solo film. A film set in the 1920s or 1940s would indicate that Steve Trevor wouldn't be alive (or certainly wouldn't have an active role) in the present day adventures of Wonder Woman and the Justice League. Then again, it's not exactly uncommon to lock an actor into a multi-picture deal, even if they only ever make a single appearance.

Great news !

I would have never expected Ben Affleck agreeing to play Batman, this is similar... I would have never thought of Chris Pine as Steve Trevor in a WW movie !

Surrounding the unknown lead with A-list co-stars is nothing new. It's a tried and tested Hollywood formula especially with comic book films. It doesn't necessarily mean that the lead character will play 2nd fiddle to his/her A-list supporting cast.

Billy Magnussen for Hal Jordan. :ninja:

.

Is this concern similar to what Superman fans voice over Ben Affleck getting more prominent role and sidelining Superman in BvS ?

So, you would rather have a no name, less popular actor (like say, Matt Barr) be Steve Trevor ?

And, I don't think Steve Trevor will be seen in 1930's.

It'll be interesting if ARGUS gets a mention in either BvS or Suicide Squad. I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult for them to film a scene with Pine and Viola Davis that could be a hook for Wonder Woman or JL.
If Star Trek doesn't allow for one I can definitely see/hear some references doe

I'm chuffed to bits about this news! Frankly, him as "Kirk with a ring" would have been very lazy casting in my books and I always wanted him to take this role up.

And yes, it would be interesting to see the dynamic he has with WW in the film. An A-list male actor as love interest in a female led movie- this may not have happened in a while! And it may put paid to those period piece rumours, about which I'm disappointed.

Lol. I was just expressing a concern. Once which I immediately followed with an example from the DC cinematic universe which refutes my concern!

I would prefer to see the best actor cast for the role. Someone with genuine on-screen chemistry with Gal Gadot. If Chris Pine is that actor, then I'll be very happy.

This is a good solid choice and I think Pine will fill the role nicely, and I'm not even a huge Pine fan. I kind of hope the ARGUS stuff comes later for his character though. It would be cool for Waller or someone else to come in at the end of the WW film to recruit him for the organization or Checkmate ect.

disappointed he isn't Hal, but Steve isn't a bad consolation prize. I would imagine he may have preferred A role like steve over Hal since well, his most famous role has him space fairing as well.
