He's The Secret Weapon... David Ayer IS the Director and Script Writer

Why would anyone want Smith as spider when he could be Manta.

Think bigger.

Black Spider is the kind of character that would be killed in the Suicide Squad movie as opposed to Manta, who could be spun-off and be a (or THE) villain in a potential franchise.

Will Smith's ego won't allow him to wear Manta's iconic helmet for the majority of the film, methinks.

I didn't care for Harley in a SS movie until the actors shortlist appeared. For some reason I can't get Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn out of my head.

It seems like some of you guys are asking for a Secret Six or Injustice League movie. Aside from sharing some members those concepts are completely different from Suicide Squad. As for who Smith could be playing in a SS movie? most obvious choice is Bronze Tiger. Longest running and most consistent Squad member outside of Deadshot and Boomerang. I guess I could see Rick Flag Jr. as well but I doubt Smith is interested in playing any expendable characters.

No to Will Smith, he may not want to reprise his role again in future DC movies.

Why not get some less known actor ?

Who says Manta would be wearing it the majority of the film?

It's not like Floyd Lawton is always dressed in his Deadshot duds in SUICIDE SQUAD stories.

Fair point.

Aquamoa vs. Will Manta would be pretty stellar.

I am wondering how much influence Ayers is going to have on script and story and characters? Judging from his filmography my gut tells me he'd be drawn to classic Squad from the late 80's to the early 90's over any later incarnations. If so, then I expect characters like Flagg, Waller, Deadshot, Boomerang, Vertigo and Nemesis to be in the mix for sure. I do want some flat out SUPER powered villains there though. Otherwise it's going to miss an important element, so characters link Enchantress, Blockbuster, Killer Frost, Dr. Light ect. should also show up.

You think the studio will stipulate any characters that are more prominent in current media/video games like the Arkham franchise? Just in terms of being more recognizable for the GA. I think Harley will be a shoe-in just because she's never been on screen, and if they get Margot Robbie that is bound to get attention.

The more I think about this, I think Smith would be a better fit for Deadshot than any of the other characters. Deadshot is a smartass who always cracks one-liners, and that's Will's strong suit.

I just think that Ayers might be more attracted to the characters and interactions of the classic Squad and would want to see them, to quote myself, "in the mix" of the story, what ever it may be. That doesn't mean that Quinn, or Deathsroke ect. are off the table, just that I think classic Squad has a depth that most later incarnations lack. I also think that the team needs some bona fide "super powered" villains, other wise it's a standard action film only with slightly more crazy fight choreography (Slade, Quinn, ect. are Captain America level types after all). Put in characters like Dr. Light, Blockbuster, Killer Frost, Live Wire and the like and it becomes a true CBM extravaganza. Again, have Quinn, have Slade. I'm not opposed, but Flagg, Bronze Tiger, Boomerang, Vertigo, Deadshot, Nightshade, Nemesis and their interactions along with some true "super" villains would take things to the next level in my estimation.

I would prefer the newer roster with a few, less obscure characters.

I agree with this. The best stories to mine from are the early years of the Suicide Squad ongoing. That's when all the crazy bugged out stuff that made it a perfect companion piece to Doom Patrol happened. Some of the most innovative storytelling in comic book history happened when Ostrander was writing that book. A lot of those elements could really take the conventional superhero movie narrative for a loop. I assume that's what drew Ayer in the most.

It's just suspicious that DC would change up the comics roster right before announcing a live action movie.

I think there's a very good chance that the team will include: Manta, Deathstroke, Harley, Captain Boomerang and Deadshot. That's basically an Injustice League style team, but that lineup also works well for a Suicide Squad film as well.

That lineup + the caliber of actors they're going for would surely get people excited for this movie. I honestly wouldn't be nearly as excited about this film if it focused on the lesser known members of the original comics.

I'm content with getting my Rick Flag and Bronze Tiger fix on Arrow...The big screen Suicide Squad can feature bigger characters.

I saw Assault On Arkham recently, and damn that was surprisingly awesome  one of my favorite DC animated films, and it'd be a great template for a live action movie.

I'd love to see Batman in a small role in the SS film, like in AOA

I understand the impulse, and as I stated I'm not opposed, but frankly, the Squad NEEDS some red shirts to get offed over the course of a mission as well. Dr. Light, Killer Frost, ect. can be that cannon fodder, while Quinn, Manta, Deadshot, or whomever can survive to be used later down the line in the solo films that best suit them to play villain against the protagonist. It's why the "ant-hero" thing being played up has it's limits in my eyes. They should be cold hearted bastards that are barely kept in line by Waller and Flagg, that way it's already established to the audience what sort of people the heroes are facing when they battle later on in the solo films. That's my take any way.

If they need to add some minor names to kill off, KGBeast is the perfect choice. His role in Assault on Arkham was awesome :woot:

God that movie would be so ****ing awesome. You just know that Jaden would play Kaldur though.

He won't be. Young Justice is dead and the comics don't even use him anymore. If there is an Aqualad, pretty positive it'll be Garth.

Do we think BvS will have some sort of link to Suicide Squad seeing as its' the next film in DC lineup?

Like government officials seeing the heroes appearing and calling a certain Amanda Waller.

I think it should be the other way around. SQUAD should have references to BvS. and MOS.
