Fantasy Highlander Remake

Does Cavill only want to do action movies? I feel like they only thing he’s done in the past decade where he wasn’t wielding a gun or a sword was Enola Holmes, and even that series could see him getting into action sequences eventually since he’s playing Sherlock.

And so Beef Supreme was cast. Whoever would have been the lead, it will be bad anyways.
I will probably see it but not pay for it.

No different from The Rock so. Cavill is just trying to max his earnings while he can like so many others. Hardly something that be critical about.

I just hope Cavill dirties himself up. In the present day scenes he should look like he’s been sleeping under a bridge for a couple of months. Come on Cavill, go as ugly as you can - which is still above average - but do it!

Javier Bardem for the Kurgan.
If they can get him, I'd rather see Javier Bardem as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez

I hope he brings more personality to this role than he did to the Witcher.
Basically. As horrible as Lambert's accent was in the original, I actually think he is a better actor than Cavill with more charisma and screen presence.

Kurgan can be Hafþór Björnsson

Clancy Brown played the Kurgan in the original. And Clancy Brown is a fantastic actor. You really need a performer who can handle both the physical and performance aspects.

Anyone other than Bautista as Kurgan is a crime.

He can play mirthful camp really well, as well as serious and down-to-earth. You need someone who can play that kind of personality that just revels in the chaos and destruction they bring everywhere they go, and tone it down for the more dramatic moments, which is what the Kurgan has to have. Bautista is great for this kind of role.

Also, Bautista is a bit taller and bigger than Cavill, and you need someone a bit imposing to play the Kurgan.

Yeah, I don't know how they can match Clancy... I can't think of any current actors with the same combo of acting ability and physical menace, especially someone suitably large enough to dwarf Cavill, which is another reason why he is a poor fit for this role. Connor needs to be able to blend into the crowd in the flashback scenes. Cavill is just too big and bulky. He looked laughably out of place in Enola Holmes.

Cavill seems a decent fit for the role, can handle action scenes and with a sword, can do a few different accents.

Kurgan definitely needs to be inspired casting and please don’t make this anything other than R-rated.

Bit of a MOS reunion maybe, but something about Michael Shannon would work for Kurgan also I think

Is this Shcrodenger's Cavill?

We had folk saying he was "too small and short" to be Superman next to Affleck's Bats.

Now... "too big" for Highlander?

They can EASILY find the right Kurgan and he will likely either be taller and broader than Henry or they can use ye' olden movie magic to make the character look larger than life.

I do think this role is a waste of time for Cavill and his talents.

Highlander is one good movie, a bunch of largely garbage sequels and a somewhat decent syndicated TV show.

I just don't get why we need a reboot, or why it's important or relevant now for a reboot to happen? Now, I love the original Highlander. You can watch that movie and so many things are about it were innovative and groundbreaking.

And then they ruined all of it with the sequel. It was a movie that never needed a sequel. Not only that the first sequel upends the original and ruins all of it. And then they turn it into garbage sci-fi knockoff of Blade Runner and Burton's Batman. They explained things that needed no explanation. They undermined everything that made the original good.

At the very least, look at a movie like John Wick, it was original. All the characters and the story in it were brand-new. Sure they were probably inspired by older movies and films, but they did their own thing. They weren't trying to recreate something older and better.

By rebooting Highlander, right off the bat you are guaranteeing the movie can't stand on its own. All people will do is compare it to the original. What works there what works here, blah blah blah.

I get that Highlander is a cult classic, but did it really need a sequel? No it didn't. Nothing ever really measured up to the first film. And then everything got progressively worse. Don't get me wrong, I like Adrian Paul. I think Duncan MacLeod was a relatively good character with good stories despite the shortcomings of what they could do on syndicated TV for its time.

I feel like it's going to be the RoboCop remake all over again. Or Total Recall. Stop trying to repeat the success of the original. Make the new RoboCop. Make the new Highlander. Make the new Ghostbusters. These movies were classics and stood apart from the pack because they did things new and different. They had their own original stories, characters and ideas.

Yes, I like Star Wars, Marvel heroes, comics and all that, but making new characters and stories is good too. We can't always be a sequel or remake.

Totally agree. If this was the Rock or Dave Bautista in the same suit I would imagine they look oversized, but I’d hardly say Cavill looks ridiculous. He looks like a slightly more athletic version of Holmes than we usually get, that’s all.

I still think he would've made a better Batman.

You know, I wonder that too. I know his Geralt is polarizing but I think he does well as a brooding, deep-voiced badass and I think he might have been able to pull off Batman.

Then again, he’s pretty charming in Enola Holmes and it makes me wonder if his Superman might have been much better if Snyder had him do more than silently mope and punch things.
