Hip Hop & Rock Music: Could It Hurt FF2's "Epic" Quality?

Should FF2 Feature Secular Music?

  • YES: Equal to or MORE than what was used in FF1

  • MAYBE: But LESS than what was used in FF1)

  • NO: Stick with John Ottman's Score Only

I thought the mix of music presented in FF 1 was just fine, and would like an equatable amount for the next film.

If it goes with the scene to enhance, or build the drama, why not. If you are just going to stick it in there because you think it would be cool to put it here, then no.

Do you believe that was the case with the first film?

See it's tricky because the FF are New Yorkers, and we bump all kinds of music out of every crevice of the city here. So it's...natural...to hear an amalgam of music tastes booming in the background in these burroughs. But at the same time, this is supposed to be a Fantastic Four film...not MTV Real World. :whatever:

You know....I could have gone with that choice as well......but if they don't find "popular" songs, and performers.....then no......

Had the scene with Alicia cleaning Ben been left in, that music only added to the creepiness of the scene.....it was this sexy music....and I'm sorry, but someone cleaning a rock guy, is just not sexy to me....passionate score music would have helped me in the creepy department...

*sigh*

I must concur...that scene was gross! Totally misguided attempt at getting "sexy" with Ben. LOL The worst part was that Alicia was cleaning with her mouth open! I was like..."Can you uh...please close your mouth while you're washing his rocks off?"

Erm.....:o That didn't come out quite right....:oldrazz:

Take it the "nutcase" thread please.....:whatever:

I do not go to a movie to hear the music, unless it is a musical. I really can not remember any of the song tracts, ( except the beginning one ). but I do remember the movie. The BMX extreme scene, I could have done without totally. However I loved the part, after Johnny comes out, ( without all the glorified promotions ). A classic confrontation between Ben and Johnny. I remember moments from the film, not the music.

Is there a place where I can see these deleted scenes? Thx

Yes, such a place exists. ;)

Only if someone wants to upload them to a share program.....if not many of us have them saved on our desktop, but the file is too big to send through PM or email....

Well, how would people like Superman if it had a bunch of Disco songs in it?
The "Can you read my mind?" part was bad enough.

I think I still have the file saved on my computer. I can try uploading it onto a share program. Lightning, is it okay to post the link here?

You guys want some cheese with that Whine? Man you guys made it seem like it was the F'in Flash Gordon movie. The music in F4 was barely noticable. I remember like two songs from the freaking movie.

No offense, but at this point the first person to have truly whined is you. ;) All we're doing is discussing the pros and cons of having secular music in the film--and what effect it would have on its audience's perception. This was a problem for a lot of people last time and we're revisiting the topic, that's all.

Ehn....I would advise against posting it publicly. However, I can't control what you do via PM. *hint*

Hey! :cmad:

I...I liked that song. :csad:

Me too.....I thought that was a cool scene, and I was happy to see a similar scene in Superman Returns...

I don't remember much of the music in the first music, but I don't think 50 Cent, Sum 41, etc, etc DESERVE or NEED to be in a movie that's about an alien setting up the earth to be frickin eaten by his master.

Yeah but did Spider-Man really have that much secular music in it? I do seem to remember SM2 playing "Raindrops Falling On My Head" when Peter was down on his luck. And interestingly, that's the ONLY secular track included on the Original score CD (and I believe SM2 had a soundtrack as well).

I think FF1 featured a LOT more...so much so that to this day many people can't even remember what the film's main theme was....:csad:

Agreed!:whatever:

The Spiderman soundtracks have some really good artists on them....the F4 soundtrack had....Chingy?????????*rolls eyes* and oh my god....can you say he did it for $$$$$$$$$$$ only. The more I hear it the less I like it.....the more I listen to the SM soundtracks, the more I like them....and I believe (I'll have to go check) but one of the songs was quite the smash it on the billboard charts.....

Bing-freakin'-o.

I can live with some some current-day stuff used for Johnny, but I so hope they keep the "hip" music in the rest of the film to a minimum.

These things get dated quick.

I'll tell ya something though; out of all the artists who contributed songs to the FF soundtrack, Chingy seemed like the only one who may have ever read a Fantastic Four comic, judging by lyrics....(assuming HE was the one who wrote that song, of course)...

Thanks. Yeah I figured that I probably shouldn't.

Going back to the topic being discussed, I didn't mind the bits of secular music used in the first film. If I can recall correctly, they were played mostly during Johnny's scenes, so it didn't feel out of place at all. I voted for the third option. The effectiveness of a scene hinges so much on the type of music they (Tim Story and I guess the music supervisors) choose to include. A wrong selection (especially for hip-hop and rock music) might make a certain scene or a character appear cheesier than intended and the FF shouldn't come across that way on film. I am a fan of John Ottman's work anyway and would like to hear his score played in its entirety in this film without being chopped into pieces like last time.

He didn't write those lyrics....lol ummmmmmmmmmmm I don't think.....I'll check on that....:word:

I don't know if FF2 will have any "epic" quality to be hurt in the first place, atleast not if they style is anything like the first one. No amount of pop music will really hurt it, IMO.

I'd love to see the deleted scenes, if anyone has it in their heart to send me a PM... :csad:
