The season has been impressive thus far. The King of England is very good

I knew King Egbert was familiar to me.
He was Thomas Wayne in Batman Begins and The Purifier in Chronicles of Riddick.

I really like this show but the dialog really bugs me. I wish it were true to the time and culture. There are too many modern terms which throws off the immersion factor for me.

Otherwise the show is beautiful with the environments and people.

If they spoke accurately to the time, the vast majority of the audience would have a hard/impossible time understanding what was being said. I think it's more important the intention of their words gets across.

The latest episode was really great. In fact, this whole season so far has been top-notch. The side plots with Lagertha and Athelstan also works even though it's outside from the main plot. I'm glad that the show has already been renewed.

Great episode tonight!

Man, that new Earl is awesome.

I was glad we got to see the Blood Eagle, seriously brutal business. I guess it serves Ragnar's reputation well. I liked how during the ceremony, all the warriors looked on while those who weren't combat veterans turned away or just up and fainted.

Old Horrick is a naughty fellow indeed.

It was brutal to watch. I suspect that it is as bad or worse than being crucified. :D

Well now we know where Bjorn will get his love of blood eagles from.

That was brutal! It almost made me sick to watch and it wasn't even real. To think they did that and crucifixions in real life.

Also glad to see Lagertha. You guys were right. They had no respect for the old Jarl.

I keep still seeing the execution in my mind. :( It seems somehow more disturbing than anything I saw on Sparticus....

That blood eagle scene was both beautiful, disgusting and haunting to watch. When Ragner gently places Jarl Borg's hand back on the stake..it was so sensual it was scary!

I've heard of the Blood Eagle torture before but never saw it on screen.
Say what you want about Jarl Borg but he took it like a boss, the man had iron guts.
As always Lagertha

Me too. That was so freaking disturbing to watch. I was squirming through it all. I don't know why I let myself go through that.

I have to give kudos to the production team. The way the show and that scene was shot was just amazing. They really get how to capture the psychological and physical brutality without being in your face graphic like Spartacus.

I loved the look of horror on some of the people's faces. I wonder why King Horrik let him die after all that buildup.

The development with Floki seemed to come out of nowhere. I don't understand why he would feel that way about Ragnar given how close they have been since the beginning. I know Floki is a staunch Viking traditionalist while Ragnar is open to new idea, which could be the divide between them but I think it's another red herring.

I'm with you on Floki, his new jerky attitude does seem to have come out of left field. They were tight, best buds, brothers in arms, and then one day out of nowhere Floki is jealous of the Priest and doesn't want Ragnar at his wedding. Ragnar has enough drama around him, I liked it better when we knew Floki was a team player.

Yeah, when Ragnar was almost dead who did they turn to for help and safety. Floki. Then later on when Floki almost died, Ragnar did everything to save him.

These two guys are as close as brothers with an unsaid bond of trust between them. I really hope they don't go messing with that relationship.

I also was hoping Rollo would finally get rid of the conniving Siggy. I can't stand her from the standpoint of the main characters but creatively I can appreciate her actions and will to survive. Just like Lagertha but she goes about it in a totally different way.

Floki is a simple man and I think Ragnar has become "too big" from his point of view. He wanted something for him only, not involving the now quasi living Legend of Ragnar Loathbrok ( spelling ? ). Having said that, he is also a jealous man when it comes to his friendship with Ragnar.

Rollo needs Siggy, he wouldn't be where he is now without her. She knows the game ( of Thrones ) and play it the best she can in order to raise Rollo above simply being Ragnar's brother. She wants her old station back for her AND Rollo. I wasn't fond of her before but after the episode where Auslag and Co flee from Jarl Borg I changed my mind. The woman is a true Viking but Lagertha is the best :hrt:

Pretty good episode last night. Ivar the Boneless!

I really like the relationship between Rollo and Bjorn. Rollo has really become a lovable character now. Unlike King Horrik and his son who I want to see die horribly.

I can't wait to see the reunion of Ragnar and Athelstan. Another great relationship. This show seems to have quite a few of them.

King Ecbert with that princess was hilarious.

I agree, darn good episode!

A lot happened too, this show sure does rip along at a fast pace sometimes.

What's the bet Ragnar and the princess take a roll in the hay?

I never realized how big Rollo actually is until this episode. When he took Siggy's hand it was quite remarkable.

Wow, that is strange. When I saw that scene I thought the same thing. I was like damn that guy must be huge given how small her hand looked in his. I didn't know if it was due to the angle or the actor is really that big.

He also looked big in the practice fight scenes with Bjorn. Even Bjorn is a big guy. I think Ragnar is the runt compared to the other Vikings.

The previews didn't make it look good for Lagertha.

Agreed. If it were any slower I think it would be a drag. It doesn't feel rushed, like they are giving us what we need to know without it feeling disjointed. It's an exciting series, yet informative when the politics are involved.

That nympho mercia queen is trouble.

She sure does.

Ragnar seems very interested in the priest (can't think of his name right now). It's almost as if he/they all miss him seeing as how they lived for so long together. Although, i get the sense that because of his betrayal the reunion might not go so well.

What betrayal? King Horrik lied about Athelstan betraying them and about his death.

It's obvious King Horrik did what he does (be a insecure power hungry idiot), attacked King Ecbert and got his arse beat. He then ran back to Ragnar.

On a side note, is this show following a particular historical event or is it just stories told about Vikings and British set in an alternate world?

He's betrayed them by living with the enemy and telling the King all about the 'Pagans' lifestyle, rituals and war strategies- from Ragnar's point of view.

Sort of both. No one is really sure whether or not Ragnar actually existed, so the TV show takes creative liberties putting their version of the character into actual history. Loosely based in reality, I would call it.
