so how important of a role does that English Monk guy play??

is he an important historical figure?

Fairly important role in the last episode.
He learn to KILL without hesitation and saved Ragnor life.
Plus with the crew now in Wessex they will need his translation skills.

The most recent episode was great! Man, this show is getting better and better, it's really found it's rhythm.

I really enjoyed the battle at the end. Especially clever was letting the middle of their 'wall' fall back, allowing the Vikings to engulf the English soldiers and attack from all sides.

I loved this last episode. There was a lot of foreshadowing of things to come.

Fimmel is a pretty good actor. I love the look he got on his face when he was in the house looking around and he tasted the bread. So funny. I also like they showed he is moving beyond obvious plunder and is thinking more long term.

Floki is acting like a little girl... I guess he has appointed himself defender of the Viking faith...lol

I liked even more when Ragnar covered up the child so no one would see him. It showed some compassion though he seemed conflicted when he was watching how his former priest/slave guy reacted to the torture of the bishop.

I don't know what is going on with Floki. I like him but not his child like cruelty. :(

Floki has always been a bit off, but his jealousy over Ragnar is weird.

I also liked the scene with Ragnar and the child. It showed him having compassion, which none of the other Vikings seem to possess. Of course, they are compassionate at home, but abroad is another matter.

Lagertha is in a very interesting situation. I don't see her current husband being around for too much longer. Not sure how I feel about the actor portraying Bjorn. He needs to grow on me a bit.

That was a very action heavy episode, and I'm not complaining! I was surprised at the ending scene, I didn't expect that to come down so quickly.

Hopefully Bjorn takes out Lagertha's current husband. I thought the actor did a good job, he got the inflections of the younger actor down well...he sure did get big in four years!

I agree about Floki, it's disappointing to see him acting like Rolo. One thing I find really interesting is the effect the time away must have on the people who go on the raids. Having their home plundered aside, even comparatively little things change during their time away. For example, when Ragnar and pals departed, Rolo was the village drunk and a disgrace -but when they return months (years?) later, it's entirely possible his status would have changed- now he may well be considered a hero, and well respected once again.

Very nice episode.
I agree with everyone about Floki jealousy over Ragnar's favorite confident and is feud with the priest's old religion. The Priest ( sorry can't remember name ) was great in this episode as well as Ragnar, he has a vision and shown that he's not just a bloodthirsty barbarian.
I was all wrong about Siggy, the old Jarl's wife, she is a true Viking woman.
Rollo : redeeming power-up !
Bjorn grew fast, the actor was rightfully picked up, he really looks like an older version.

Floki needs to take a long walk off the cliffs of Dover.

Dang, I really thought [BLACKOUT]the priest's[/BLACKOUT] days were numbered!

Really enjoyed this episode. Rollo is completely turning around into a likeable character. Ragnar's talk with the king was less intricate and a lot shorter than I expected, I hope they meet again. Floki's reunion with his lady was interesting. My personal highlight was Ragnar's reunion with Bjorn, really looking forward to seeing their relationship continue.

Also, of course, great to see Lagertha back to her old self.

I cant wait for someone to skewer that fatass priest.

I guess the only thing that bugged me about the reunion was how Ragnar seemed to snub Lagartha a little, like he wasn't to blame for driving her away. :(

He was just more excited to see his son than his ex wife. Besides, it wouldn't look too good if he ran up to Lagertha as joyfully as he did Bjorn. His ex-wife, with everyone watching, including his current wife only a couple hundred meters away. Perhaps he was happy to see Lagertha, but he just couldn't show it publicly...?

It was a good episode. I am glad to see Rollo being redeemed. I also thought that was the end of the preist, but he lived to see another day. I wonder what use he will be, but I think the clock is ticking on his existence.

You know, I think some of that was pride. You could tell he was embarrassed to have her be the one who rescued HIM! It has to sting his pride.

The only thing I wonder is how did Lagertha get the troops? Her husband didn't seem like the biggest fan of Ragnar when we met him.

Well, she wasn't exactly exaggerating when she explained to her husband that Yarl Borg was likely to be a poor neighbor. :)

True, but I wished we would have seen his assenting to send troops. As it is I got the impression that maybe he said no to his peril.

Great season thus far...An improvement from last year

The King spared him because he want a deal with the Vikings, it would be unwise to kill one of them now and he could also be a bargain token as well.
I wasn't expecting ex-Priest to be crucified Jesus style, at first I thought he was hallucinating. Was crucifixion still en-vogue in England during this period ?

I don't think the king wants a deal with the Vikings. He kind of proved that by attacking them as soon as half their forces left. I think he spared the priest because the priest has inside knowledge of Viking culture. Kind of like why Ragnar took the priest in the first place. Remember it has been said that the King is just like Ragnar.

Also, yes the priest was crucified as an apostate. That was in fashion during those times. I believe they still did that up until 17th century.

The priest is a really unlucky guy. All his friends died, he got kidnapped, got Stockholm Syndrome, got on Floki's bad side, got on Rangar's bad side, got kidnapped again, got half crucified... I mean holy heck.

I think the Wessex king wants the priest for his insider knowledge of the Vikings as well. The king is cunning and ambitious just like Ragnar.

He's going to need some serious therapy. :p

Bold : lol fair point I'd forget that. So he will be an insider ( proper word ? ) for the perfidious Albion.

Italic : thanks, good to know.
