History Channel's 'Vikings'

BY THE WAY

In the scene before the British attacked the Viking camp, when Floki was antagonizing Ragnar's brother, did anyone notice what it was Floki was carving? It looked awful phallic to me...

Vikings were renowned for their mastery of deck carving, that's an historical fact.
I don't know what it was but it wasn't phallic at all.

I don't know what you saw Xavier, but I just looked at it again and it's pretty darn phallic looking to me. In fact, I really can't see how you can say "wasn't phallic at all" unless you're misremembering it completely. Have another look at the episode, I'll be very surprised if you don't change your mind.

I saw what I saw and the boy drew the sword !

Before posting I watched the scene again and it doesn't look like a phallus to me or it is a small shaped one :)

You think that's small? Damn Xavier, you must be popular with the ladies! :D

I was talking about the carved part not the whole log of wood :)

What did everyone thing of tonight's episode?

Pretty interesting stuff! I like all the exploration of their religion, I assume a lot of it is pretty accurate given it's a History Channel show. The relationship between Ragnar and his pet priest continues to grow ever more complicated (to say the least) and Rolo is a snake, but it's obvious he wouldn't be anything without Tiggy(sp?). Under her guidance he'll be a real threat.

I like Donal Logue as the Viking king too, very cool. His mutual respect with Ragnar was neat, interesting the way Ragnar eyed the king. Foreshadowing?

Nice episode, I didn't know Vikings did human sacrifices.
The priest must know that Ragnar did him a great honor to offer him as sacrifice.
AFAIC the snake is the old Earl's wife, she plays on Rollo weakness mainly his sense of entitlement and misplaced unfairness toward Ragnar success.

Wasn't too into this weeks episode. The priest got a lucky escape but he did pull a judas when he renounced Jesus which I think might play on his character later on.

They are burning through the Ragnar mythology pretty fast.

Ragnar is already thinking 5 steps ahead, the description of the show on IMDB says "Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes...." Oh oh Donal Logue :D

He didn't truly renounced his faith, that's why the Viking seer (?) didn't accept him for the sacrifice. The priest was also keeping his cross pendant, he is conflicted between the Vikings gods and his own faith.

The show is very fast paced yes, between this episode and the last one I think years have passed.

I also thought Ragnar asking Odin who will be the one to give him "many sons" was interesting. Sneaky ol' Ragnar.

If his wife is now barren after that miscarriage is he going to just dump her for someone else? That would be mean... :(

That's what Kings do and you just don't ignore a prophecy from Odin himself.

The priest renouncing Christ three times was an allusion to Peter, not Judas. It was Peter who renounced Christ three times.

I thought that was a nice allusion too.

Way of their world, I'm afraid. I like Ragnar's wife, she's a cool character. But I guess as he sees it, if she can't fulfill the role of a mother, what good is she? The added weight of the Seer's prophecy, as Xavier said, is also bound to push Ragnar toward another woman.

Was I the only one who found the finale underwhelming? It didn't really end, just left us hanging, but not like a proper cliffhanger should. :(

Well, they are based on historical figures. So, if you want to know what goes on with their marriage, you can always look it up.

Sparticus was based on a real guy but I am sure they embellished a lot. :p

Spartacus was soft core porn wrapped in history on Starz. This is an adaption of a non fiction history book based on Norse history and legend on History channel. Bit different.

I didn't realize it was the season final! Explains why it was so eventful.

I'm glad season two has already been confirmed. Man, lots of good stuff going on now. Naughty ol' Ragnar. His son's reaction was interesting, I wouldn't have thought he'd care. Ragnar's going to flip his lid when he gets home, I wonder if he'll blame his wife for all the misfortune?

Floki is cool, I like him a lot.

I wonder why they did a 9 episode season instead of a nice round 10?

Love this show..

I don't understand what happened at the end with the woman though

-I dont get the king's motivations with the spider allusion. He seems sinister and not generally trustworthy. What is he up too?
-Ragnar at the end..I'm not sure if he was loving the new woman or did he kill her. I'm guessing he did not kill her with his comments at the shrine.
-not surprised by the borther's actions, it's been a long time coming but i was hoping he'd buck the odds and not betray his brother.
-man the other earl was a complete jerk.
-Plague was brutal..man life was rough back then.

I think the Kings expects of Ragnar that he would come to the conclusion that he must kill the Jarl.
At the end, Ragnar was just putting his head to the woman belly, happy to have a new child. Btw, the woman knew after one coitus that she is pregnant, odd.
Rollo motives may not be as they appear, I think he may cover Ragnar's back.

It's the history channel, they can't afford 10. I'm really surprised that they were able to produce such a hit right out of the gate. It kind of reminds me of what Starz accomplished when they did Spartacus. I actually like this show more than A Game of Thrones.
