King Ecbert is so magnificent in this show

Yeah, he has the political intelligence/ruthlessness of Tywin Lannister, but with some of the weird charm of Oberyn Martell as well.

I knew that was coming from King Ecbert. You could tell Aethelwulf was going to go on a massacre rampage the moment he started talking about how the Pagans were not like them when he tortured that Merica guy a few episodes ago.

I think Ragnar is has already planned Kalf's demise.

I could see Gustaf Skarsgård making a very good villain in Batman movie or something similar.

Lagertha, Floki and Rollo tease of decent among the ranks again but I still feel none of them will betray Ragnar.

Ragnar's scene of the week was that epic eye-roll-turned-backflip :lmao:

Athelstan passive-aggressively flipping off Floki was great.

Athelstan has been living with the Vikings for years and Floki still hates him.

So the bear that will marry the princess is Bjorn, right? That's my take. :)

I veer between being disgusted by and grudgingly admiring Ecbert. That long con he pulled on the Vikings was genus. I wonder now whether he ever had any interest in Lagertha, and what his motive was for asking her to stay with him.

Other than that, Ragnar was certainly being a turd in the episode. I feel sorry for Aslaug and Lagertha having to put up with him.

Poor Bjorn! He so badly wanted to go raiding with his parents. Now it won't happen.

I foresee this gif getting much use in the future. It's perfect for dismissing moronic posts.

Lust.

I didn't see that coming from King Ecbert, then again, didn't he say he was heavily corrupted, the evil scum. The actor is great and makes the character a good likable villain ( I remember him being the Purifier in C.o.Riddick and Batman's father ).

Kalf must die I guess and by Lagertha's hands !

It also makes sense why he's so cool about his son's wife cheating on him, he can use that againts the Vikings.

I thought it was Rollo, he seems the most bear-like among them. But it could very well be Bjorn too!

So who is the princess in the prophesy?

It could be Rollo given how the Seer laughed and what he said. "If only you could see what the gods have planned for you."

I don't know why it is such a big deal for that girl Bjorn likes to be scarred in battle. In their culture battle scars seem to be valued so for her to have such a severe scar I would have thought it would increase her value in their society.

I had a feeling King Ecbert was up to something but I didn't expect him to kill all the Viking farmers. It seemed like a Dr. Evil plan, overly complicated to solve a simple problem, rather than an ingenious plan.

Oh man, that historical information is so cool to read when you see how tumultuous his life has been so far. It's great to see all that we have seen so far as back story to the Rollo who will develop into a historical figure.

Thank you for the link.

I really want to see this scene played out.

According to legend, when required to kiss the foot of King Charles, as a condition of the treaty, he refused to perform so great a humiliation, and when Charles extended his foot to Rollo, Rollo ordered one of his warriors to do so in his place. His warrior then lifted Charles' foot up to his mouth causing the king to fall to the ground.

Excellent news!

Rangar knocking his kid on the floor when he woke up was so freakin' funny :D

As to the rest of the episode, goodness gracious! One major even clearly stands out, but everything else that's going on is pretty darn shocking too -King Ecbert's endless scheming, Bjorn's business, Rollo's daydreaming, Ragnar's marriage...Ragnars endless scheming...and that look on his face at the end!

Great news about Season 4... and damn that episode. So many emotions.

Squeekness is displeased about the demise of one of her favorites.

That was funny :woot:

Alfred the great is born! Weird than Athelstan's son will one day fight Ragnar's sons.

That Judith scene :eek::barf:

I wonder why they made Judith Alfred's mother instead of Osburh who was the first wife of Æthelwulf and mother of his children?

I hope Floki dies. Floki has been nothing but a whinny b**** the last two seasons.

Ragnar’s passive aggressive trolling of Aslaug for cheating on him and neglecting their children was a little creepy.

Saint Athelstan

Is Sinric the wanderer supposed to be intersex?

I wish the show had been clearer about Athelstan's fate. It seemed disjointed to me since there was no connection between Floki's scene and Ragnar's at the end.

I think it is perfectly fitting for Athelstan's son to battle Ragnar's. It almost has to go down like that.

As annoying as Floki is, I think he is a great character, probably one of the best on the show, because he represents the voice of the Viking gods fighting to survive against the One God religion and change.

What does Ragnar mean at the end when he asks forgiveness for what is to come? Is he talking about killing the Franks?

This show is so beautiful in the way it shows the environments and the costumes are incredible. This show is also brutal in the types of torture these people of this time use on each other.

I think that the "forgive me" line is in reference to how Ragnar intends to conquer Paris. He shaved his head and put on a cross; that could mean he plans on infiltrating Paris dressed as a monk.

That scene with Judith is the most disturbing one I've ever seen on this show. At least the blood eagle was mute.

I wonder how Floki and Ragnar will interact with one another from now on. Floki's been insanely loyal but Ragnar can't just forgive Athelstan's murder.

Spoilers on Athelstan's son:
