Hobgoblin thread, perfect Idea, of course I'm bias (lol).
For casting:
Someone mentioned Harrison Ford as Roderick Kingsley/Hobgoblin.
Excellent Choice.
If You go with Jason Philip Macendale Macendale ( the merc) then I would go with Colin Farrell.
Here's why:
For Roderick Kingsley, You need a very smart, slightly
a@holeness, forward thinking CEO type person. Anyone who have seen Ford in half of his movies would agree that he has played that type of character very well.
For Jason Macendale, Colin Farrell has played the rugged, slighty dangerous, villain/bad ass very well.
Hobgoblin apperance: Now to start, I have seen the Hobgoblin manips using the movie Green Goblin suit. Now this kinda looks cool but it really should'nt be used for a number of reasons.
I would like to see Hobgoblin with make-up/prothetics for the face. That way we see the character's facial expressions and mouth movements, Something that was lacking in Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. I would like to see yellow skin, bald head, red hued eyes, pointed teeth and ears and Buffy the vampire slayer's tv show's vampire face. (slanted forehead, dark eye sockets and the fangs.) That way we see the facial expressions and mouth movements.
Now I know what your thinking, 'the goblin formula dosn't change the person's physical features/skin colour.'
I'll address that question now.
As stated in the first Spider-Man movie, 9/10 times the performance enhancer formula works as it was created. However that 10th time it induces
unchecked agression, violence and madness. This was evident of how it affected Norman Osborn but not Harry (in the movies). Harry still retained his normal mental abilities. (He wasn't insane, just bent on revenge waaaay before exposure to the serum. Also he "saw/talked" to his father's "ghost" before exposure to the formula. Don't ask me why.) Kingsley would anticipate the
chance of insanity from exposure to this drug and asks his development team ( he's rich so he can hire people like this) to create a half-life for this drug.
In other words, the re-worked formula will only last so many hours in the human bloodstream before it detoxifies and becomes expelled from the body (sweat, urine etc) Just like any drug known to man. That way if he ends up like Norman,it won't be perminant. Here's the catch: By tinkering with the origional formula, new variables arise. He will be twice as strong and athletic (SPEED,REFLEXES ETC) as the origional GG, retain his normal mental faculties but the price is physical transformation. Yellow skin, red eyes, bald head, pointy ears, slightly demonic face and fangs. He is more cunning, more ruthless and more calculating than Norman ever was.
Costume: Here's where it gets tricky. A lot of people did not like the coat and hood look of Dr.Doom in the Fantastic Four movie. Why? You can get away with capes for the heroes in movies (Bat-Man,Superman etc) But if you have the villians in capes too you'll have everyone running around in flashy costumes trying to look bad-ass. I think it looked good and reasonable for Dr.Doom to look like that and he still looked like Dr. Doom (the mask was spot on) The overall look was still Dr.Doom. Yet a lot of people responded negativly. Yet the same look was used for the hobgoblin manip using Movie Green Goblin and people thought it looked good. Anyway I think the whole black coat/black hood thing with Hobgoblin would look great.
How Roderick Kingsley aquires the Goblin gear to set this up needs brilliant creativity of writers to dream this up. Any takers?
Any comment on any or all of the above mentioned?
As always majority rules here folks.
