How could Burton's Gotham have been improved?

Now that someones posted a pic..don't you think Nolan made a good looking Metropolis?

Though I'd love to see how he woulda screwed up Superman.

Burton can do no wrong in the Misc. Batman Films section.

Nolan can do no wrong in the TDK/Begins sections.

I agree. While I think it works well for Nolan's world, his Gotham is really nothing special. It basically looks like any other big city with sky scrapers.

Exactly. And Gotham isn't supposed to look like any other big city. If it was they would have just called it New York.

Burton's Gotham was much more comic book like than Nolan's, IMO.

The term "Narrows," refers to the entire island, not just one alley. The alley in which the Waynes were murdered could still be Crime Alley, they just never make mention of it in the film.

I'm done dragging this on any further, but I'm going to say this just ONE MORE TIME...

"Crime Alley" is the name of a NEIGHBORHOOD...

not just ONE Alleyway...sheesh...:cmad:

:whatever:

i'm getting sick of all the disjointed continunity between movies and comics.

why can the powers that be not sit down and once and for all nail down some "truths"? it seems every filmmaker decides to change something, i think it cheapens the mythos.

Agreed. I mean, for Christ's sake, make a definitive Batman movie. You have a lot of stories to work with complete with storyboards (The comics themselves). Don't change things for your vision, because to tell you the truth, I'd rather see a pure, definitive, well made Batman movie than some guy's vision of the character. Let directors have their vision in separate movies, but I want one real, pure Batman movie. Give it to a talented director with a list of everything that works in regards to Batman to follow. Nothing against Nolan, I respect what he's done, I just want a movie that does for a live action big screen Batman what the animated series did for the character.

There has been a s--tload of interpretations since 1939. There is no definitive Batman.

agreed. There can never be one definitive Batman because everyones idea of what the definitive Batman is, is different. All we will ever have is someones interpretation of the character. If you want something thats close to the comic source material, in any of its forms, go watch Batman the Animated Series.

Oh, Id also like to throw out that Antons Gotham designs were so well received and liked that the comic book artists started to incorporate that style into the comic books.

Like in The Destroyer arc. I recall them using Furst's designs for the covers, although i cant remember if his actual works were used in the book itself.

Perhaps I phrased my statement wrongly. I'm not complaining about what directors do, and I like seeing what certain people think of the character. That's essentially what makes Elseworlds popular. All I'm saying is that somewhere, at some point, I'd like to see something along the lines of the animated series translated to a live action movie.

potato potaato... I think the best thing about Burton's Gotham is that it makes you want to watch more of it and more of it... doesn't mean it has to necessarily be about Batman but if they made a film just about Gotham itself and set in that universe, it would be terrific... it would be awesome to have flashes of Batman and some footage of him doing his thing but also make it more about citizens of Gotham and make Gotham the main character of the film and its city scapes... I'd LOVE to see Burton do something like that, even if it was just for TV... cuz i'm that in love with the design of the first film

I think it was perfect. Just like the way its in the comics, bizarre and gothic. I would have more of the city shown, like maybe the police headquaters and Gotham Global. Schumacher tried it In B&R.

There are several threads there in which we critique and analyze the negative things of the Anthology.

What's critiquing the Anthology in the Batman Begins section got to do with Nolan's films?

:cwink:

B:TAS is still just one interpretation. Its not as if they covered the Kane/Finger Batman from `39 throwing people off roof tops and killing them. Its not as if we saw Batman punching Adolf Hitler in the face. Its not as if we saw the 20 yrs of Batman camp represented on the show. It's not as if we saw Frank Miller and Alan Moore's Batman. Its not as if we saw Jason Todd getting killed by the Joker. Its not as if we saw Batman going to countries at war and protecting kids from land mines.

You know what I mean?

B:TAS is just one interpretation.

We don't waste ALL our time praising Nolan. Sometimes we attack all the aspects of Burton's films as well.

Nah, just playin'.

How awesome would that have been? lol

Damn censors.

We still may get some type of rendition of those. Who knows what might happen with these new animated DTV movies WB is doing.

But why simply adapt a comic book story? I'd much rather have a director change some things a little to suit his own artistic vision and then give us a kick ass new Batman tale than to have a director merely use the same story and visual style of an existing story.

Well we did get the Kane/Finger Batman and Frank Miller's DKR adapted in TNBA...:cwink:

Besides TAS wasn't perfect. :woot:
