Is ASM2 an improvement, the same, or a downgrade from ASM1?

Just got back form seeing it about a hour ago and it is miles better then spider man 1, 3 or the amazing spider man but spider man 2 is still king of spider man movies.

In terms of music, Spider-Man and action it is better. In every way else, it is probably poorer. But I'd probably take the high moments in TASM2 over the first film.

I dug ASM2 way more then ASM1.

I don't get the hate for the store the store was simple and way more balanced then spider man 3. It was just more of a love store and I think that is truing people away. Harry motivations where good elector could have been better but still wasn't that bad.

The problem is there is not story. Well there is a story, but it is so thin that they pad it out with villains who have even thinner, more generic stories.

I liked TASM2, but I like TASM1 more, I like it movie more every time I watch it, it's easily one of my favorite CBM's and my favorite Spidey film. TASM2 didn't feel all that consistent with it for the most part and Lizard gets a lot of flack, but he was at least very clearly the main villain, while TASM2 didn't really have a main villain at all, Electro gets Time's Square and the power plant and all, but then Harry just swoops in and steals his thunder, but Harry doesn't have enough villain moments as Gobby to feel like a main villain, so both of them get kinda shortchanged. TASM1 just felt like a far more focused film to me, that and I friggin love origin films.

The store was about gwen and peters love and peter having a hard time because of the promise he made Gwen's farther at the end of the first one and about harry felling despert and like peter betrade him.

And they stretched that over 2+ hours, with a lot of repetition and two very lame, and poorly written villain origin stories.

I don't think goblin was a pore villin but I do think eletro could have been better though. What so spider man 3 had to much going on and this movie didn't have enough going on?

I do think the first half was slow but after that it was flawless

I do not like the first one but it looks like the bloody Dark Knight compared to the second one.

I like the second why more than the first.

When I saw ASM1 I absolutely loved the realistic tone of the movie and the dynamic between Peter, Ben and May felt 'real' to me. The practicle swinging was nice and well as moving in 'real time' like dodging bullets from the policeman's gun.

Spidey had an edge to him which made him a little unlikeable and Peter was pretty unlikeable as well, especially the 'Please go to sleep' but I accepted it as a teen getting to terms with his dad (his 'real dad, Ben Parker) death.

I saw ASM1 as the creation of a sandbox and I was excited to see which direction they would go in for the sequel.

For me the sequel takes that sandbox and blows it out of the water.
Spidey is in full on 'comic' mode. The relationships are tighter. Loved how May straight up tells him that she's his mother. Loved how Gwen breaks up with Peter turning the usual superhero relationship dynamic on it's head.
The villians were more interesting to me and lastely where I was bored in the climax of ASM1 (if I'm honest with myself that's the truth) I was literally on the edge of my seat for the climax of ASM2.

I thought ASM2 was better than ASM1 in every way, pretty much how I view SM and SM2.

Spider-Man - 8/10
SM2 - 9/10
ASM1 - 7.5/10
ASM2 - 9/10

I would say it's WAY better. I did like the first (maybe a 7 or 7.5 out of 10), but I really liked this one. The split in rotten tomatoes and response saddens me, but this is the Spider-Man movie I've been waiting for, it's the Spidey from the comics. To me it's an 8.5 or maybe a 9 out of 10, for being a super hero movie.

the lizard in the first film was extremely mediocre and dumb..... but not insulting like all the villains in this film....

....along with added pointless subplot about his parents

both films had good gwen and peter moments.
So this one is definitely ALOT worse...

At times its better at times worse.

Overall I think it just nudges ahead of the first but I was expecting (hoping) for a wider gap as I was not a fan of the first one.

I would compare this film to a roller coaster, at times it has highs that make it soar and then its followed by a deep troughs that leave you wondering if your watching the same film from 5 minutes ago.

Voted equally good. The highs are higher in ASM2 but the lows are lower too, ASM is definitely a more consistent, tight movie but I can imagine myself enjoying the second one more over time, even though I do think they're similar in quality overall.

TASM 2 by a long shot. Leagues better, IMO. I also enjoyed TASM though, 6.5/10.

I'd say ASM and ASM2 are equally good, but for completely different reasons.

Oh ASM2 was MILES ahead of the last one. Marc Webb really embraced the Spider-man legacy on so many fronts. It was magical in so many places.
