How I Met Your Mother

Well even if Barney does Robin and Ted marries Barney's sister, I doubt that the producers knew that they were going to do that back in the pilot when he told the kids that Robin was their aunt. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they knew this all along.

Does anybody have an actress they think should be the mother? I always went with Rachel Bilson, then she ends up on the show! ...as the roommate...

She was in season 1. She helped Ted do the rain dance.

Jennifer Morrison would have been a great choice if it weren't for the character she played. But I don't think the mother needs to be a big name. If the show ends with Ted meeting her, she'll only be in one episode.

Just because he calls them Aunt and Uncle in the narration doesn't mean they are related through marriage or what not. Uncle and Aunt is often used as a term of endearment among close friends as well.

My godson calls me uncle even though we aren't related through marriage or blood. His dad is has been a close friend for 20 some odd years.

Not saying it's not possible that Ted ends up with Barney's sis, just that the use of Aunt and Uncle by the narrator doesn't equal to a relation. He calls Marshal and Lily Aunt and Uncle in it too so unless Marshall's Mum ends up with Ted's dad (since she's widowed and he's divorced) it's not likely they are related in that way.

What about Robin's sister? She should be in college by now...:awesome:

Of course that wouldn't make any sense since she was featured in an episode already

Thats the only reason why I like the theory of the Mother being Barney's sister then that way we can get a sense of who she is, but in saying this would it be a breach of the Bro Code if Ted hooked up with Barney's sister or would Barney let it slide considering he broke the code first?

Barney owes Ted a Bro Code break. That said, I'm guessing that the wedding will be the season 8 midterm finale (keep in mind, Lily wasn't pregnant) and Ted will meet two or three girls at the wedding, any one of whom could be the mother and we spend the rest of season 8 pursuing that.

Something tells me that the wedding will be the series finale. Perfect way to end the show with Ted meeting the mother IMO.

I dont know about that. I'd kinda like to get to know the mother. I mean, ****, we just got a full season of some broad I couldn't give a crap about. I'd like at least a few post-meeting mother episodes.

I think the season finale should end with Ted proposing and the mother saying yes.

The thing is, this is the story of how they met, not how they married. I mean, that's like people complaining about Smallville and how they never showed Superman, even though the show was more about the journey not the destination. Same thing with HIMYM. It's about the journey towards finding the mother, and not about their relationship, even though it would be great to see how he got along with her.

The fan inside of me has long had the opinion that anything other than a season-long chase of the mother would be a story letdown. I wanted to see Ted and the Mother fall in love.

But I've changed my opinion, I'm with SpideyVille. I'm not a fan of the Ted meets three women and one of them is the mom option (although I was thinking that might be how they do it) either.

The show is leading up completely to how he meets her. To me, that's the last episode, how they met and how they initially started connecting with each other. We have details (and I believe the writers will keep throwing out more the last two seasons) of their relationship already: Ted took her to his usual first date place, he told her the crappy shellfish joke, etc.

In other words, I think the idea the writers are trying to get across will be that we don't need to know how they fall in love, those details are sprinkled over the series, we just need to know how they met.

The journey there was the point of the series, yes. But it'd be nice to see how they fall in love. Proposal isn't necessary, though.

I agree that the signs have been there the whole series, with little hints about things that Ted would girls he dated that didn't work with them but worked with the mother, but at the same time, I feel like they might show that in a montage maybe or something to just show the kids how they got there. Like Ted might tell them really quickly how they met, went on some dates, got married, and then had kids. Sure I'd like to see the mother be more than just a face and a cameo, but then again, the show is How I Met Your Mother, not How I Married Your Mother.

I think I would prefer the last episode beginning with Ted meeting her and having the episode be about the beginning of their romance ending in the future with her popping up next to the kids on the couch.

The fact that Barney's wedding has no specific date set has me thinking that it will be the series finale. It would be the perfect ending for Barney's arc, the woman who Barney is marrying (possibly Robin), and of course Ted's arc with him meeting the mother. Plus we know that Lilly isn't pregnant during this time so she must have had her baby already.

does anyone remember the baker ted dated. wasnt her thing in germany for two years she should be back in the state. maybe she makes the cake for barneys wedding.

i know shes not the mother but she was still awesome

Yeah, Victoria. It would be funny if someone asked her to do the catering. I remember Marshall telling Ted to go after her because he loved one the cupcakes or something that she made.
