How I Met Your Mother - Part 5

The show definitely became the Barney show after the first few seasons. They kind of put Ted on the sidelines for a long time until the last season or two.

I think that was undeniable when they had the 100th episode and all the marketing revolved around Barney and they had that whole dance number centered on Barney.

I did like that dance number though.

My wife wanted to do a marathon of this show again recently, but I couldn't go through with watching Lilly completely manipulate and dominate Marshall's life all over again

That is another thing, way more than the finale. I don't know how I didn't notice it on initial viewings but yeah Lilly is pretty terrible. I mean her leaving Marshall everyone rpetty much got over but even after that she was s***y

I hated her in the episode The Perfect Week when she was forcing Barney to talk about his feelings

Weird thing; I hated 'Aldrin Justice'. I'll be the biggest jerk in the Western Hemisphere, but you start hiding my ****, we gots a problem. :cmad:

I didn't like the fact that she was behind all those breakups. She must have had a pretty big ego to think she can play with people's lives and not get away with it...

Christ, I'd forgotten about that. How ridiculously meddlesome.

She's just an overall unlikable character when you think about it. The biggest things I always come back to are:

-She ditched her fiancé and hightailed it to SF without notice.
-Comes back from SF then gets mad at Ted for calling her some not so nice things for doing what she did to Marshall.
-Broke up tons of Teds relationships because the girl didn't "fit" their group.
-Hypocritaclly chastised Marshall for accepting the Judge position without telling her and having the audacity to call HIM "selfish".

Seriously lady?

That did turn what was an otherwise decent character into someone less likable and more on the shady, controlling and even abusive side.

All the characters had flaws although I imagine had it been Marshal rather than Lily who did all of those things, it would have been seen less comically.

This was probably the worst she had ever done, considering the amount of debt she got them into forcing him to take a job he didn't like,on top of that running away to go pursue her dreams at art school.

Does this Lilly's responsible for Tracy's illness and death?

And here we thought Darth Rosenberg was gone for good

ANd Barney is just....Barney.

I think it's kinda funny I feel like if you actually look at a good number of sitcoms they actually are about disturbing or dark characters.

I think we should over analyze Full House next :o

Barney has a lot of issues going on. Despite his obsession with having as much sex as possible and an ambiguous moral center, he actually seemed to be the least disturbed member of the group.

At least I can't think of anything he did that was adversely negative to everyone else. Lily, Marshal and Ted are well covered. Robin really was not too bad although her relationships with Ted and Barney were disasterous, and she broke off from the group leaving them all behind much like Lily did to Marshal and Ted at one point.

It's crazy that Barney seems the most stable one.

Robin killed a kid. She was volunteering at a children's hospital and well.... let's just say Munchausen syndrome by proxy and leave it at that.

Lily did not make Ted and Robin break up for a bet. she did, because in her crazy mind, Robin wouldn't play well bridge on the hosue's porch with them in the future.

It's amazing how one finale could ruin a whole series. Even though I found a way to get past the ending it still pisses me off. As for Lily I do agree with most of you guys. However if Marshal was willing to always put up with it then so be it. That's on him.
