How I Met Your Mother - Part 4

I don't think they would do the "Mother is dead" route because the kids seem almost too happy, or at least in good spirits to have that be the case. If she were dead, I doubt the kids would get mad at him or tell him to finish telling the story already.

Plus it would be a real downer for the series. And Ted wouldn't have told the story in such good spirits either. His whole tone would've been rather melancholic.

Well, this was mostly disappointing. Enjoyed the dramatic slap build up, occasionally smiled during Marshall's long slap training story, but mostly meh.

I'm not sure that article has it's facts straight. Everything I've heard regarding Victoria being the Mother was only if the series had gotten cancelled early on.

The article even links to Deadline, which said:
The show spent its early seasons in a perpetual state of “on the bubble” and Carter Bays said the backup plan for an alternate ending “we both kind of agreed: Ted meeting Victoria – happened at the end of Episode 12…It would have been Victoria, probably.”

“Ashley Williams reading this, like ‘Mother****er! That would have been awesome!” said Thomas.

Miloti, in her limited role this season, has pleased me way more than Victoria ever did. Even in season one, I hated her and never wanted her to be the mother.

With speculation on WHY Future Ted is telling the kids the story, I'm guessing it's something like a third child is about to be born, or they're snowed in and he's telling a story he's told like fifty times.

Snowed in for over 9 years ? & how can Ted tell a over 9 year story over fifty times ?

The show has all been about explaining Ted's relationship with Robin to the kids so that the kids will be less surprised when at the end he tells them that he's leaving their mother and hooking up with Robin :)

Yeah but by what season would it have ruined continuity, ie I met your mother at a friend's wedding, she was in my class etc.

Or as I said in the other thread, Lyndsey Fonsceca's character wants to rush off into a relationship with someone, and Ted is telling her (and his son) the value of waiting for the right person. If he had just settled for Victoria or Stella or anyone else, he wouldn't have met their mother and found his perfect match. With all of those other women, Ted would've had to compromise too much and not be true to himself.

I doubt it's her rushing off to get married. I think if that were true, he'd be telling her, and not her and his son about it.

Maybe it started off as a simple thing. With the kids wanting 2 know about how their parents met. They could have kept asking about it when they were younger. They did seem pretty excited 2 hear the story in the pilot. But Ted always held off on telling it. Because he knew he would go into amazing detail & the kids had no idea what they were getting into. They did comment once on being surprised with how much Ted remembered

There's also the gag reel from Comic Con where the kids are adults and had been sitting there this entire time.

Which points even more to that article about Victoria being the mother at the end of S8 being wrong.

Yeah Victoria was only if they didn't get picked up for a full season back in Season One.

The kids were excited for the story at the end of the episode in the beginning they thought they were being punished. I think Ted just wanted to tell them the story in detail. Back in season 2 he hated that his parents never told him how they met and when they did it was only a sentence long.

Its very possible that the kids just wanted 2 know the story. But no one told them about how dad tells stories

Yeah, I agree. I think it was just the kids asking him, "How did you meet mom?" And it turned into an obnoxiously long story. It'll probably be a joke at the end.

I hope it doesn't end on a sad note with the mother passing or anything. Maybe it ends with the Mom "calling" Ted and the kids from another room and when they walk in, the whole gang is there and it was a surprise wedding anniversary party or something?

Plus, if HIMYF is supposed to be a spinoff about the daughter, you NEED to have Ted & her there during her "20s-30s flashbacks" sprinkled in the stories somewhere....but I'm just getting ahead of myself, lol

I think the spinoff is a How I Met your Dad and won't have any carryover.

Yeah, the spin-off is supposed to be about a whole new set of characters that we've never seen before.

oh ok, I thought it was supposed to be about his daughter. I thought it would've made a nice connection since it'll pretty much be a similar show.

The daughter rumor is a recent one and contradicts the previous "no connection" reports we'd heard earlier.
