I saw it in 2d Imax and 3d IMax....was kinda dissapointed with the 3d i think our theatres 3d reel mighta been messed up...cuz during the 3D parts it was REALLLLLLLLY blurry....anyone else have this problem ?

Just saw it. Don't know why other people think it was blurry.

I sat second to very back row in the middle, so I had one of the best seats.

The 3d was amazing. Just make sure you go early to get good seats.

those damn 3-D glasses never work'd for me anyway! i remember seeing Jaws 3-D in the theater, and it was less than spectacular. plus it gave me a headache.

The 3D technology has gotten a lot better since Jaws 3D. I saw "The Polar Express" in 3D IMAX, and it look fantastic...by the end of the movie I was so used to it I almost forgot I was watching a 3D film.

Seeing SR at the Imax tomorrow, can't wait.

Just came back...I'd say it was money well spent.

We had 3D trailers of Ant bully, Happy Feet, and Open Season...They were great..It really got the audience into it as you could tell that there were alot of people that hadn't been there before neither..

The presentations were very well done...The 3D made the movie alot more enjoyable, mostly during the boat rescue and the flashback/Kent farm scenes. Sometimes there would be some blurrying during the scenes, but there were other shots that well made up for it..

I'll definitely be going back...More movies need to get to the IMAX.

Sounds great. Can not wait to see it for myself.

I really think it obviously depends where you sit. If you sit at an angle, say the right end section of the theater you will not get the same 3D as if you sitting straight in the middle facing the screen. That was my case, since i didnt get good seats, i saw the 3D a bit messed up at time, during scenes with lots of motion.

Sorry you couldn't get into it.

I however thought it was pretty kick ass concidering this was something done in post production, and the film wasn't even shot for it. If tou didn't enjoy the plane rescue in 3D, I dont think anything could ever impress you.

Space Shuttle 3D, a movie shot for IMAX 3D, was amazing. The 3D wasn't in "layers" like Superman Returns, and had depth and texture. I was disappointed in the SR 3D because it was so poorly implemented compared to a decent 3D movie.

Hell, even The Creature From The Black Lagoon and Space Hunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone in 3D were better, and they were the old red/blue type of 3D.

The 3D in SR was poorly done, blurry, FLAT, and useless. I felt gypped out of $7 for that wasted 15 minutes of ViewMaster quality 3D.

I expect that the newer technique being used for the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings films will show you the difference between good 3D and bad 3D.

Superman Returns Smashes IMAX Records
Source: IMAX Corporation July 6, 2006

IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that Superman Returns grossed $108 million at the domestic box office in 4,065 locations over the extended fourth of July weekend, and that "Superman Returns: An IMAX 3D Experience" contributed $6.83 million, representing a record seven-day per-screen average of $89,804. The film shattered every opening week record for an IMAX Hollywood simultaneous release, playing to sell-out crowds and strong audience satisfaction. The film also opened on 11 IMAX® screens internationally and will launch on 24 more in coming weeks.

"We are thrilled with the initial success of 'Superman Returns' in both conventional theatres and IMAX® theatres," said Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution at Warner Bros. Pictures. "The special IMAX®3D release has been well received by moviegoers across the country, and will continue to play to sell-out crowds."

"These phenomenal results demonstrate the consumer enthusiasm for experiencing 'Superman Returns' in IMAX 3D," said IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. "We are confident that this amazing film and the immersive quality of The IMAX Experience® will continue to draw audiences to the growing IMAX theatre network."

The film opened strong in several key international territories, with a record international seven-day per-screen average of $67,888 and many IMAX theatres reporting record performances and numerous sold-out shows.

"The IMAX 3D release of 'Superman Returns' is off to an incredible start in Asia and based on strong pre-sales in Europe, it looks like this is the beginning of a worldwide success story," said Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures. "We look forward to reaching an even wider audience as we continue to open the film during the next few weeks in IMAX theatres internationally."

"Through the amazing execution of Bryan Singer's vision and our partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures, IMAX has transported audiences directly into the adventure of Superman," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Audiences literally reach out to touch Superman as he flies toward them in the IMAX 3D sequences, and this unique offering is translating into unprecedented box office results for IMAX."

IMAX Corporation used its proprietary 2D to 3D conversion technology to successfully complete the conversion of approximately 20 minutes of Superman Returns into An IMAX 3D Experience®, the most immersive cinematic 3D in the world. During four select sequences of the film, a visual cue designed by Singer indicates when audiences should put on and remove their IMAX 3D glasses. The film has been transformed into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it to see it in 3-D at an IMAX theatre. I'd recommend to sit near the back though if you can.

The IMAX theatre experience definitely enhanced the film, but the 3D was only a marginal contributor to the enhancement. The weightless moments in the plane's cabin were the only scenes that made good use of the 3D effect.

does the consensus show that it's better to sit towards the back of the theater if one sees SR on IMAX? i'm going this weekend and need some pointers.

Eh personally Id of preferred it in simply IMAX. The 3-D still looks like a view-finder to me. The technology doesnt seem to have come that far IMO other than maybe the conversion process. It has its moments but it still feels like the 3-D movies from the 80's.

if one were to not wear the 3-d glasses during the 3-d scenes, would they look decent, or horrible...or no different from regular?

^
It would be really blurry.

The 3D was fantastic. It's really quite amazing in some parts.

And if you were to not wear the glasses, the image would be two different imagers overlapped over eachother. It's not pretty.

your IMAX theater should have a seat plan where it indicates where are the best seats. the best seats are at the back, not the very end, about 3-4 levels down and dead center or course.

it depends on the demand where you're at, but if the demand is strong the only way to make sure you get the best seats is to reserve at least a week ahead of time. and on a weekday preferably ;)

good luck man. i know for a fact that folks at my local IMAX is fighting tooth and nail to just get a seat for a weekend viewing, and my the sight hasnt been pretty :( :O
