I'm just trying to gauge the full significance of Black Panther's break out success.

So let's be civil, please.

First I guess we ask, how do we determine A-list?

1) Popularity - Does everyone in your extended family recognize the name, even grandparents?

2) Recognition - is the character globally recognized. And locally, would most people recognize the Halloween costume?

3) Marketability - can the character make over 300 m domestic at the box office?

Am I missing anything?

Isn't Zorro half native?

Aladdin, maybe.

Zorro is listed as "novohispanic" and Mexican. So I'd assume he Mestizo.

I think Zorro deserves to make the A-List.

But I think he needs a current blockbuster to solidify his place. Most kids know nothing about him.

Aladdin is another solid choice. And his blockbuster comes out next year, I think.

If Aladdin counts, there’s some other Disney heroes like Mulan.

Shaft?

Do they have to be a main character? I would say Apollo Creed if not.

If you go by characters my grandparents would know, you're going to have a hard time.

Just characters themselves? Are you limiting to Films/TV or storytelling in general?

I think Blade is now ripe for a comeback.

Its a little hard to say which is a list right now. I think the Marvel brand is so golden that they could turn any of their non-white comic characters into A-list overnight. I totally believe with Marvel Studios backing they could do a Kamala Khan, or America Chavez and easily bank over 300 million.

When I try to think of video game characters I find either whites, or anthropomorphic characters.

Does Kratos count as non-white racially?(obviously other than his dead family's ashes making him super-white?) He's greek and voiced by African-American voice actors.

Maybe? I don't know.

If video game characters like Kratos would count as A-list, then I think Goku could, too.

Alex Cross? He has a whole string of books and was even played by Morgan Freeman. :)

Lincoln Ryhme as well, played by Denzel Washington. He's got even more books then Cross, I think.

Eh, they've tried Alex Cross a few times in movies and didn't do great business.

Storm's pretty well known as well. :)

Tonto, maybe?

Morpheus and Mowgli
