How Many of you Actually Read Comics???

I don't really collect or regularly read comics at all. I don't remember ever doing so in pertaining to superheroes.

I read about 9 DC titles as well

Not really. The 60s was about that (and a little bit of the early 70s). But after that it was piss poor storytelling. For example the 70s brought us the first Spider-Man Clone Saga (those three issues made me wanna put my head through a wall), the cancellation of X-Men, Stan Lee leaving both Spider-Man and FF, DareDevil moved to San Fran "F***ing Black Widow" Sisco, and the blaxpoitation comic characters.

There was a huge creative gap in the 70s, much like in the 50s and 90s. And it was filled in the 80s by many talented up and comers.

True, but so was much of the 70s.

There was no Defenders in the 90s really. Just a short Secret Defenders comic that went nowhere. No Defenders in the 70s sucked so hard. Did you ever read the crossover they did with Dr Suess:csad: ....I did.:csad:...I went out and bought it :csad:...just for that reason.

It really wasn't. It's like the bane of my collection. Marvel Team-Up wasn't much better, the Golden villain who turned black kids into Bling....yeah, it was that bad.

Well, as I've mentioned before, I read my comics from the 70's DURING the 70's, and while there were some :whatever: :whatever: :whatever: moments, there were some good stuff going on, like Wolfman's runs on Dracula and Amazing Spdier-Man, Gerber's Howard the Duck & Man-Thing, Mantlo's Marvel Team-Up... I could go on and on...

But I'd also like to add that I'm very biased towards the 70's because I read them during the 70's, hence I see that time through rose-cloured glasses, and when I think of the 90's, with the exception of Preacher and a few indies, nothing good was coming out of the Big Two other than hologram covers and other such gimmicks to make people buy multiple copies.

The 70s, much like the 90s, is still noted as being a huge creative slump which was filled by the likes of Claremont, Bryne, Moore, Miller, Wolfman, Perez, etc, etc. Specifically I find the art particularly bad.

I grew up in the eighties, and while I love 80s X-Men...I do occasionally, or rather frequently, reread my old comics. The 80s was full of gems but still has many low points, while the 70s was few and far between with quality work.

Dracula, Man-Thing were certainly high points as the 70s featured a somewhat silver age revival of horror genre comics. However Mantlo's Team-Up and Howard the Duck. To me those seem to validate the phrase "one man's trash..."

But the bigger teams like Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Fantastic Four X-Men and DareDevil suffered huge setbacks in the 70s. You can really see this when you consider what happened to all those titles towards the end of the 70s, being reinvigorated with fresh new talent. Claremont and Bryne (Wein and Cockrum) reinventing X-Men. New teams like Alpha Flight and the New Teen Titans appearing. That stuff all happened in the late 70s, early 80s.

The 70s truly was one of the lowest points in the superhero genre, as was the 90s. But to say there is nothing redeemable from either decade would be wrong. The 90s had Preacher, DareDevil:Yellow, Infinite Gaunlet...to name a few.

own all the TPB's of Preacher along with the the 1st and last issue.....probably one of the best pieces of literature in the past 20 or so years........

Everyone goes on about "when will the next Watchmen or DKR come out?" yet what they fail to realize is there have been a number of books that are just as good (or in DKR's case, better) that have come.

What are your thoughts?

I think the following are on par and in 20 years maybe seen on the same level...

Well, for me, I'm kinda getting into Frank Miller's early works and I've only read The Dark Knight Returns, so I don't have anything to really compare it to. I've heard that The Dark Knight Strikes Again got mixed reviews and I'm assuming it's not as good as the DKR.

marvel isn't doing much for me lately, aside from daredevil, cap and astonishing x-men.

i find myself gravitating towards specific creators, more than anything else. i'll read just about anything by brubaker, ellis, simone, rucka, johns and a few others.

here's my current pull file:

I have read many titles over the years. I read no current comics (I think they all suck). I have many favorites, but most of my collection has been of Spider-Man, The Silver Surfer/Cosmic based stories, and The Avengers (especially Captain America).

I have a healthy dose of Bats and Supes also...but Spider-Man is the vast majority of my collection.

i was a huge spiderman fan but lately im not to hot about the storylines , i will go out and buy events like the other but only because i have to know what they are doing witht he character, i most recently read marvel zombies and zombies vs army of darkness, they were ok. i generally am no longer an avid collector because i feel betrayed by some of the creative decisions

Well Ennis is f**king god when it comes to pacing and dialog, seriously probably one of the best in the business.

Suck on that Miller!

I don't collect them anymore but I still read them regularly.

I don't read too many comics anymore. I used to have a huge collection with Fantastic Four #1 as my primo piece...but now they are mostly gone.

Now I mostly get into graphic novels if anything. I'm loving the Walking Dead series and I need to pic up the new volume really soon.

I mainly stick to my Spidey comics, but I occasionally read some other Marvel comics.
Right now I read
The Amazing Spider-Man
The Sensational Spider-Man
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Ultimate Spider-Man
Spider-Man Family
Spider-Man/Red Sonja
New Avengers/Transformers.

I like New Avengers and I love Transformers. Together...not so much.

I suscribe to about 10 different comics and try to buy others when I can but being in Switzerland it is not easy.

I don't really read single issues; I mainly just grab the odd collection or larger story -- Kraven's Last Hunt; The Venom Saga; Maximum Carnage; Batman: Knightfall; The Killing Joke; The Long Halloween.

I don't really like things in instalments, to be honest. I much prefer starting a story and being able to finish it right off.

My friend's just brought me Watchmen and Future Shocks -- I'll read them both soon.
