Just curious, how "poor" do you think high-school aged Peter should be? What clothes would be reasonable attire for someone of his status?

Pretty poor. Not in poverty, but he'd have a limited wardrobe. I probably would also not give him internet at home. Maybe a cell phone.

Limited wardrobe as in what? Like what would he be wearing?

Not too poor, not too rich. He's your average guy living with the average uncle and aunt.

95% of the population in the Western world can afford internet and a cell phone. What you're describing is straight-up poverty.

So like this,

Like Shik said, internet of some kind is standard.

He should be lower middle class or normal working class IMO.

Peter doesn't live in the projects or anything. The average person in a low-income family can still afford a computer and a cell phone, especially in New York.

His aunt doesn't appear to be working, so they probably wouldn't want to spend the $80 a month on the internet.

Both Peter's Aunt and Uncle worked in TASM1. And internet would cost closer to $50 a month.

You guys realize that even homeless shelters have wifi these days, right?

He just wouldn't have an iPhone or a Mac, or a high-end PC.

No Xbox One or PS4, maybe an old Xbox 360.

Maybe if you went to some rural areas it would be less likely that a poorer person would have a laptop or cell phone, but in NYC? Forget about it. I know people who live in the projects that have all that stuff.

His situation doesn't seem too different from mine at that age, except my mom probably had more stable income than Aunt May though she also had more mouths to feed. He probably can't afford $200 jeans but I don't think he'd be stuck in ratty jeans or sneakers with holes in them. Internet and a cell may be a necessity but maybe he doesn't have cable or only has very basic cable. There might be financial troubles from time to time but I don't think Pete would ever be on the verge of homelessness.

Also I would imagine that financial issues would really get worse AFTER Uncle Ben's death.
