As we passed by the church once again I saw "REST IN PEACE STEVE IRWIN, WE WILL MISS YOU"......W.T.F.?
Are we such a pathetic country that celebrities are more important to us that the deaths of thousands?! Have we lost all tact and morality? Why is the death od ONE Austrailian thrillseaker more important than the thousands of men women and children who were killed by terrorist actions on our own soil? This makes me sick, and those of you who know me would know that I am not one of those Right Wing Republicans bashing the libral media, personaly I hate Georgey Boy and I think Cheney need to shoot himself in the face! I love the Media, I loved Steve Irwin, I thought his death was very unfortunate but he made his living off of placing himself in dangerous situations, it wasn't that inexpected! I feel sorry for his family and wish that it didn't happen. he was a wonderfull and energetc, lovely man, but he was a thrill seaker who died from thrillseaking! Not and inocent bystander who decided to take his kids to work with him at the twin towers and had a plane flown into him!
I want to know your feelings on this, are there any others who are as asamed of our country for this?

Personally I couldn't care less about 9/11 because the media tried to exploit it as much as they could to get ratings. (This includes the multiple movies, tv specials, etc. that have been aired in multitudes in the past 5 years).Olcanucklehead said:....on 9/11....the anniversary date of thousands this institution chose to acknowledge the death of an Austrailian Crocodile Hunter who made a living off of ****ING with dangerous animals, instead of acknowledging the tragedy that AT ONE TIME touched the lives of so many americans......now as tacky and distatsfull as I thought this was, I understood that it was an animal hospital and I could see some, not much, but some reason for doing this so I let it go......but not three blocks later we passed a church with its own small board on the front lawn, now of course I could suspect to see some testimate, some tribute, some small fraction of sympathy for those who lost their lives five years earlier on this day......right?......NO! Irwin wasn't going after animals just to get some kind of high by cheating death or facing danger, he was working to get up close with the animals to better educate humans. Considering we have a tendency to misinterpret nature, and kill anything we see as violent or dangerous, it was a noble venture that I would say was a success.Olcanucklehead said:Why is the death od ONE Austrailian thrillseaker more important than the thousands of men women and children who were killed by terrorist actions on our own soil?

I am ashamed that this country doesn't correct its own society and has the gall to claim that we need to correct another.Olcanucklehead said:I want to know your feelings on this, are there any others who are as asamed of our country for this?

Olcanucklehead said:Let me ask....why hasn't 9/11 been made into a national memorial holiday? Officialy, why hasn't it been nationaly acknoledge as much as July 4th, or Labor day, or and Presidents Birthday??? WHY? Becuase the government can't make as much money off of it, because people don't spend as much money if their crying.
Olcanucklehead said:Oh and one more thing, just thought I'd do a little quote from Marylin Manson that I just thought would fit here.
"the death of one is a tragedy
the death of one is a tragedy
the death of one is a tragedy
but death of a million is just a statistic"

Tangled Web said:You guys need to show some ***ing respect for the victims of 9/11. I don't give a damn if you don't know them, they're people for Christ's sake, people with families.
I never said there was anything wrong with mourning Steve Irwin. I just said that you shouldn't downplay the deaths of 9/11 victims.kingman said:So was Steve Irwin... another person with a very young family who had his life taken away from him in unnatural circumstances... but there are also the millions who die every day because no one wants to help them so are we gonna remember those people too?
Terrorism exists and has done so way before 9/11... many people have needlessly died but no one wants to remember them, can you even name an act of terrorism from before that day?
I know of plenty... I know people who could be classed as terrorists, hell who knows they might have been involved in bombings or shootings but that's life, 9/11 was huge sure, Steve Irwin's death was also a big thing and those people who have died from all acts of terrorism all deserve to be remembered... but it's up to the people to choose who they want to mourn so that's the way it will always be
