Comics Howard Mackie relaunch/Jenkins PP run compared to BND

In my 33+ years of reading Spidey, I actually stopped once... right after they revealed Norman to be the mastermind behind the Clone Saga...
it was too much for me, so my last issue was ASM #421 (had been buying monthly since ASM #183)... though my first Spidey issue was ASM #148...

I looked at the comics every so often, but i saw nothing that made me regret my decision...

I came back with ASM #471 when I heard that thuis JMS guy was going to replenish Spidey's wheels... I read the first arc... thought it was ok, and I came back on board...

Of course, being the completist that I am (I did own ASM #1 to 421), so I sought out the missing 50 issues that I needed (and these were the Mackie issues)... and I was lucky to get them at a reasonable price, because of their low print runs, they are harder to find, hence, more expensive.

However, I can now claim to own ASM #1 to current...

Wow lucky you. I just went on Ebay a while back and saw some guy was selling number 1 (graded) for a little over 2000 bucks....although i can't really afford it, it was still nice to look at and fantasize about....

I think Over all there are alot of similarities that Mackie and BND have. obviously marvel has wanted to tell these kinds of stories for along time, but Mackies execution was really poor. But how expensive does his arc go for now? I own almost every issue....

I think over the next 6 to 12 months, we'll see things fixed so that his history will be seen as "fixed" (or at least, as fixed as it can be... remember, there are things prior to OMD that were never addressed nor ever fixed, so it's not like Peter Parker had a clean 45 years of straight continuity... ther have been some contradictions prior to OMD).

And in my opinion (for whatever THAT's worth), I don't see him as acting 19 in the current books.

And again, that's merely my two cents...

True, everything can't be squeaky clean. But they've still convuluted EVEN more stuff just to reach a point. heck we still don't even know if the real peter is dead or not from the clone saga.

IMO Peter relates more to "my age" supposedly.

What with the going to clubs and hanging out with friends.
Living with "mom" than moving out to a roommate.

That stuff worked years ago but I just feel they've gotten past that.

I'm not sure about exact prices, but most of his books (especially those towards the last part of his run, where the print numbers were really low) kick in at about $15 per issue.

I got my ASM #1 in 1990 (if it would be graded, it would be between 3.5 & 4.5 (I'm old-school and I asy VG)) and I paid around $1100 US for it ($1500 Cdn.)...

I'll never sell it, but it's always nice to know that it's since increased in value.

I think it can work again... people have become accustomed to the "arc" type of storytelling, but the soap opera style is the way to go... keeps the reader coming back... imo.

I didn't mean EXACTLY 19. I meant now Peter seems to be in his late teens to early 20s. Doesn't mean he's immature (if your assuming I'm just ranting like a random moron poster) I find much of BND to be in character for Pete. He's a smart guy but he's not perfect and he has done many stupid things. I don't think they've found the right groove yet,seeing how screwball got away from him so well, and how he tripped on a hot dog cart. (if im wrong sorry but i think im close, its been a while)...but if NWTD is any indication they'll get right back into it soon. (I VERY much expect Peter to get carried away while talking, hence Menance blowing up the wall he was sticking to.)

REALLY nice guy but he's selling back issue's for even lower prices than new issues.

I always wondered why when I went to the mall in Colorado that books I saw in there were like 15-30 bucks for back issues.

That's really him. It's been confirmed by editorial. The Clone Saga left a bad taste in so many mouths that they didn't go back and attack it from every angle on panel to show it's him. You can't really blame them for wanting to move on and start the long tedious practice of making nice with all the people they burned.

I'm 25, myself, actually. I don't live with my parents anymore, but I DO still live in my childhood house with 3 roommates.I also go out to clubs with other friends my age, and we hang out at other places, too.

In fact, I know a LOT of 25-yr-olds and even OLDER that still go out to clubs.

In fact, I feel a LOT like Peter with the whole club scene. I don't drink or smoke or any of that, but I'll go because my friends do and I'll go to hang out with them. I feel out of place, yes, but my friends are there so I usually end up having a good time even though it's not really my "scene" at all.

Yeah I know, but it still very much seems that they are trying to portray Peter as much younger.

I think in my (subconscious) I had been comparing BND with the Mackie run. How Peter was always referring to himself and his wife as "kids". (you 25 year olds don't refer to yourself s as kids do you? )

The brand new day transition is so funky. I have to keep reminding myself, ok Peter's not married this person is not dead. no one know's he's spidey.

I know we're about 9 months in but we DO deserve at least one answer right now. the "how did peter remask" question is the least of them. The same with the transition in age. I did miss the bachelor Peter Parker, but I would have rathered it be the alternative rather than the forced only choice.

Atleast if anything we DO agree on screwball. As much people that piss and moan about Freak I DO believe someone like him could get the upperhand on spidey in a fight, even the Spider-mugger was very REASONABLE. I expect these things of Parker they are very in character. I just don't see how a normal druggie got away from him so easily. (oh yeah guess who wrote that issue? lol) They are seriously underplaying how fast Spidey is sometimes.

Speaking of freak and Bob Gale did anyone notice the cliffhanger at the end of the first issue for his freak arc?
How Spidey had to save that politcian after his webshooter jammed and he was "too far to reach him"?
Yet somehow in the next ish he reaches him?

No people are against change they don't like. And instead of just saying, "Oh i don't like it." and stop buying they have to present their opinions as fact. as if their the guardians of Spidey's soul or something. And continuity is just another example of that, if you like a story/writer/direction continuity is a non-factor, when you don't like it then suddenly people treat it like gosphel.

Now that is BS... since continuity is what separated Marvel from DC and their constant reboots...

*So do you like the fact that Spidey became a mystical being?
*Do you like the fact that Spider-Man became Iron Man's sidekick?
*Do you like that Against common sense (and history) Spidey unmasked publically and thus, endangering the life of his wife Mary Jane and his Aunt May?
*Do you like the fact that Spider-Man made a deal with the Devil (Or a DEMON) to save May?
*IS this the way for someone whose mantra is With great power also must come an even greater responsibility to behave? After he's seen what dealing with Mephisto does to people (Ghost Rider)
*Do you like that the stories on the past few years were used as filler in order to get to a point where a retcon would fix everything?
*Did you like House of M? Did you like how the evnets there were supposed to affect Spidey after returning to the real world and didn't?
*Did you like the "permanent" effects of the unmasking?

JMS is a great writer... (Spidey is not his best work but he had his moments... He should stick to swords and sorcery stuff or B5)

But the fact remains that the "mighty Braintrust" is doing a copy of what Mackie did nearly 10 years ago... but this time it is more convulted than MJ blew up...


The main problem with the Recent changes was that they never gave the fans enough time to accept the changes before shoving three more down your throat...

now that we're talking about change...

Going to college was progression... as in change that moves the character forward. (NOT STUPID)

Marriage was progression... I'll admit that it was kinda rushed, but it progressed the characters... when written well...

Joining the Avengers (as much as I don't like it... with the N00bization of Spidey by Bendis) is progress...

Giving up on your love (Marriage) TO the DEVIL (or a DEMON) in order to revive your aunt... and the Devil (Or Demon) acts like a gameshow host and gives you extra prizes... (Erasing the unmasking, reviving Harry, etc.) That is not progression... that is regression... as in change that moves the character backwards... (VERY STUPID CHANGE)
