Guardians of the Galaxy I Am Groot

Baby Groot didn't feel forced in the film, even if Disney uses him as a marketing behemoth.

I feel like James Gunn gave the mainstream audiences what they wanted with Baby Groot, while also not at all overdoing it.

Agreed, he wasn't forced into any scenes and even got his hero moment at the end.

New user here, and I thought that this would be an appropriate place for my first post!

I thought that Baby Groot was quite wonderful in this movie, sometimes 'cutesy' characters have a tendency to get stale (or even annoying), but I never got tired of watching Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and I've seen it twice now. Looking forward to seeing what they do with him in Vol. 3 and Infinity War.

Question about Baby Groot- Since was technically reborn and is basically learning things all over is it safe to assume he has no memories what so ever from before- and that basically this version of Groot's memories started when he was reborn??

This article says that, according to the director, Groot does not retain his memories: http://screenrant.com/guardians-of-galaxy-2-baby-groot-memories/

Sad, but I suppose that was the sacrifice he made for his team.

So he really did die.

Interesting article. Gunn clearly states that Baby Groot has no previous memories, it's like he was reborn anew. If the 'original' Groot was willing to die for friends he just barely met, imagine how fiercely loyal this Groot will be with the only family he has memories of!!

I never read GOTG comics so the movies were my introduction to this team (outside of Nebula and Gamora-- they showed up in stuff i read as a kid). So I'm not sure how many years of memories the "original" Groot had- whether or not he had memories of his family (or even if he had one), memories of where he was from, how he came to be- and so on.

Also interesting in the same article Kevin Feige actually contradicts Gunn and says that he has his memories in him in fragments. Makes it sound like they can come back--- but I will overrule this since Gunn basically said the opposite.

Hmm, interesting. I'd side with Gunn too, since he's the storyteller and knows these characters better than anyone.

I also have never read the comics, and it will be interesting to see how Groot progresses throughout Infinity War and Vol. 3!

Finally saw the movie. I wish that Baby Groot stayed for Avengers Infinity War and GOTG3. I prefer him to adult Groot. Not so keen on seeing Teen Groot.

It was sad and distressing when he was so mistreated and abused by the Ravagers.

Gunn has confirmed that Groot died in GOTG and that Groot in GOTG2 is his son.

Huge deviation from comic Groot but we'll see.

That's friggin ******ed. But since he has no actual dailogue, importance and all he serves is a power house that the audience will likely only care for that fact that he's funny/cute. Then I see exactly why a large change like this could be made with minimal backlash.
