the idea that some fans want the reboot modeled on Nolan's Batman movies, the push for the "Ultimate" approach or those clamoring for Sony to go the "Kick-Ass" route. None of these are a good fit for Spider-Man. Whether you liked what Raimi did or not, any of these would be moving further away from what Spider-Man is all about. I tend to think many of the posters on these forums don't know what they want. I keep seeing, "Make a simplified costume. It's more realistic that a teenager could make this!" At the same time I see "Bring in mechanical webshooters! It's closer to the comics!" So which is it? You want realism or greater adherance to the completely fictional premise of the comic book? ANd amidst all the complaints about the liberties that Raimi took with the villains, why would you want them to use "Ultimate" as the model for the new film? What could be further removed from Stan's concepts than that?
What do we really want?

I think a lot of fans want a serious tone for the movie rather than playing for laughs or a love fest. I've got to be honest I kinda want that too, I loved raimi's spider-man but we've been there done that.

I'd love a closer to the comics approach story wise with the tone of the animated series.

Yeah-because NONE of them were all that close to the comics. 90's in particular.

I like the Raimi movies for the most part. I'd just like less gags and more quips.

Rather than the 60's Spider-Man that Raimi focused on, I'd like to see the 80's Spider-Man and stories live action. Not the Ultimate version.

I suppose I could live with that. Depending on which 80's elements were used. But would that approach mesh with a high school setting?

A straight translation of Ultimate Spider-Man to the screen, maybe give or take a few elements. (Such as the Oz Goblin. I could go either way there.)

In the end, our opinions won't matter. Sony will do whatever they want, and Spidey shall be shafted.

if they grabbed a few things from everywhere i think thatd be cool, like maybe, someones Ulimtate look perhaps but theyre 616 persona and like story elemstsn from everywere im about to apass out so forgive the amnner of the post

The only characters whose "Ultimate" looks work for me are Moon Knight, Magneto & maybe Electro.

Not having read or seen "Kick-Ass" and seeing that there is a following amongst comic fans, I'm wondering; what age group is he?

The funny thing is that everyone discussed Spidey's history in high school in the comics, when that lasted like 30 issues in ASM before he started college. The Ultimate line is the only line where Spidey's history was predominately high school, so that notion I find odd.

I think high school for the first film works, but I rather not see the series bogged down in high school. The comic never did that, so why should the movies? Part of what made Spidey work for so many years was the fact he grew as time went on. Stunting him in high school I feel brings the character down, and will make the series very CW-ish. You guys hated the Raimi romance, wait til all the movies are high school!

I hated Kick-Ass. Never read it, but seeing it, it just seemed ridiculous to me. Plus, anything Nick Cage is in, I despise, haha.

And I don't think this reboot is molding itself after Nolan's Batman films, BUT, the reboot has a sense of it trying to be a bit more gritty in the way of it being more focal and without any of the lame one-liners that Raimi's films had, and also as a way to stop with the inexcusable cameos of Raimi's family, the flag in every film and random women who are trying to get Spidey to give them rides. Sure, you can have fun with a comic-book adaptation and have it be more light than dark, as Iron Man and its sequel proved to be, but Raimi kinda went over-the-top at moments with his films, and even lightened up what should've been dark with the symbiote.

I won't comment with the Ultimate part though. One being, I don't want the reboot to solely be about the Ultimate line. They screwed up every single villain in those comics.

In the end, our opinions won't matter. Sony will do whatever they want, and Spidey shall be shafted.

Sony is in the business of making money. Therefore they will do what they think we want. In all likelihood they will model the approach on what we've responded to in the past with other properties.

or we could all make multimaple emails rpetned to bemultiple people and tell then what we want :awesome:

I actually wouldnt mind if the movie were based off the 30 or so issues of ultimate spider-man. I dunno why people act like those comics were horrible.

I'm not going for the kick-ass route. but I think Aaron would be a great parker. although he already said no.

Hopefully a good movie we all can enjoy

PErsonally, i find USM to be a series that butchers Villians, and is overall uninteresting. I don't even need to explain the Villian part. All people need to do is just look at the VIlians, and then they'll know what I mean.

I just want to be entertained, make Spidey quip jokes once in a while is fine by me and actually explain how he makes the costume.

That was just a minor complaint I had with the first movie, how was Peter able to make the costume so perfect the first time around, did he take a sewing class? maybe a montage of him trying out different costumes would be good.
