The Amazing Spider-Man I love Spider-Man but I hope this movie fails.

SWAT lizards. It sounds stupid. The toy looks stupid.

Lizard makes minions in the comics, yes.
But just because it's in the comics does not mean it works for movies. Why can't we just have Spider-Man fight the SWAT team Dark Knight style?

You never know...it could be awesome. I have my reservations about the SWAT lizard men but it really rests in the hands of Webb. With the skill of a good filmmaker it is possible to make this idea work well.

It wasn't a good image, but from what I can see, it's a SWAT team member transformed into a lizard monster, while still wearing the gear, kind of like all those times the Lizard was wearing a science lab coat.

As for minions in the comics, why can't that be translated into film?

We shall see.

Yes, the way Lizard looks. Toys, promo pics on the toys, concept art, whatever. He looks stupid.

I don't mind Lizard's look myself, but hey, I have a nitpick with Lizard as much as I do with Spidey. Lizard needs his lab coat and Spidey needs a belt. Plus, I don't mind the humanoid look as it makes more sense than making him look like a "raptor" of sorts.

And with the toys...they could be total crap and I wouldn't care to be honest. I just want to see how they look on screen.

And Raimi did horror, comedy, drama, and even the movie Darkman. His movies were great at humor and seriousness really.

Darkman is MAYBE the only good reason why he got tapped for the Spider-Man trilogy. Everything else doesn't feel like it goes hand to hand, the same with Webb and the reboot, imo.

As for the Bugle, go the USM route.

But as I said, it seems like the same route Sam Raimi took, except Peter is being kept in high school in the first film. It's not a big deal, imo. I doubt Raimi would've used the Bugle if he kept Peter in high school.

Skateboarding "Punk rock (quoted from Webb?)" Peter who in the trailer looks like a weirdo with his hoodie on and taking notes super angsty. I can't help but :whatever: at that. I mean, yeah Peter was a punk in Spidey 3, but at least he was under the influence.
It's fitting with the times though. The bookworm-with-glasses-and-uppity-clothes type doesn't exist anymore. Was extinct years ago. I see nothing wrong with updating it to the teen demographic that is the 60s equivalent of a social outcast. As long as they don't distance his character to the point where they can't relate to his situation, it's going to be fine.

"THE UNTOLD STORY." I don't need to explain that, do I?
Well, you do, but you can't. Because the movie's not out. But certainly to dismiss the possibility that they can explore areas of the lore that were only mildly hinted at in the books, or completely unbeknownst to the mainstream audiences... would be foolish. It is fiction after all, they can do whatever the hell they want to the story. Nothing stopping them from venturing out onto their own path.

No Jameson
No Bugle? Or at least no job there from what I have heard.
While staples of the franchise, hardly essential. Their continuing presence is only supported by the writers beholden to their inclusion, but which almost never amounts to any significance on the story itself. I can appreciate the director cutting out the fat so to speak, instead of blindly following tradition. Allows much more focus on the integral elements. It's what made Casino Royale so great.

Now, future installments on the other hand, I can understand frustration in such omissions. But on the first go-around, I say let it breathe. Watching the development of the classical traits form over the years is more satisfying in the long run, than having it all in one basket at the first try.

this in high school, but get real. I hope the 15 thing isn't true.
I also am baffled by the dark tone of the trailer, yet all the footage is like, supposedly light-hearted.
It's not a clash of tones if that's what you mean. I've seen the footage and sizzle reel today and everything flows well. It's serious, dark, light, and funny in all the appropriate moments and at the right levels. There's consistency in the presentation.

And, this is small: I liked 500 Days of Summer, but it gave me no reason to think Webb is a good candidate for Spidey. I mean, we'll see though.
Well, you could say this of many directors' works prior to their breakout franchise. Raimi and Jackson come to mind. You never know what people are capable. Sometimes they just need to be given an opportunity to really show what they're able to do.

So in 10 years the next Spider-Man should be doing what is seen as cool then? Spider-Man is timeless. In 10 years Peter Parker may be a hacker trying to close down The Daily Bugle's site as part of Anonymous...no thanks. Just stick with the nerdy outsider who gets bullied. A nerd is a nerd will always be a nerd. Nerds don't wear Ramones shirts or run around tagging billboards. Although I hate The Big Bang Theory...those are still what nerds are. Nerds aren't hipsters and I think they made Pete a bit of a hipster in this. We will see how it works out.

Also...close this thread. What's the point of it?

Right, so why get hung up on details like his taste in music or choice in clothing? The "hipster" as I understand it, is an branch-off from the nerd persona. The distinction being that it is tinged with personalization stemming from niche fashion trends and/or eclectic artistic taste. Ok...fine. Peter still gets picked on, his classmates still rag on him, and he is still a loner.

I'm not seeing this big hooplah over additional surface details that further shape his individuality. Not when practically nothing has changed about his own character.

Nerds should always be a bit different looks wise. Appearance is one of the ways you relate to a character on screen. It's the reason why Gwen dresses like she is a rich hot girl. Why JJJ is always wearing a button up shirt with a tie and a cigar. What do those things say about those people? It's part of their character. When Peter wears a Ramones shirt and a beanie...he doesn't look like a nerd. He looks like the current trend of teenage heart throbs. They were able to capture Gwen spot on. She looks fantastic. But Peter...not so much imo.

I wear slacks and a tie to work everyday and I consider myself a nerd. If you put me next to a guy wearing a Flash shirt, cargo shorts, and flip flops...which would you pick as the nerd? Appearance is just a facet. If they capture Pete personality wise, then I won't complain when I see the movie.

So what is a nerd exactly? I'm still trying to figure this out. I have friends who play Magic the gathering and play League of Legends, yet they dress very trendy, play musical instruments and listen to different kinds of music. Do nerds actually have a type of music that they listen to?

I don't know if these were rhetorical, but it's the wrong type of questions to ask. Inevitably it ultimately leads to one source: stereotyping.

I'm not into grouping entire populations into a box based on strictly defined traits. A bit of a generalization is ok, as there is validity in distinguishing groups on distinct (but open-ended) qualities. As far as "this must be that" or "this is only ____", I think it's the wrong way to approach things.

It's not rhetorical...I'd really like to know what a definitive nerd is these days, coming from a self proclaimed "nerd". This is where all of this Peter Parker doesn't look like a nerd talk comes from; is a nerd first of all, judged on his appearance? I don't think so and so I don't understand all of the criticism towards this Peter looking like a "hipster" and therefore not a "nerd".

I figure I'll save space if I just say what I liked in the trailer.

The fighting stunts with Spider-Man look really cool.
The city cinematography at night is great.

Everything else, from the Buzz Lightyear lighting when he shoots his webs, to the ****ty Lizard, and the practical swinging (I thought that was good?) especially the one where he swings down into the street and back up. Oh. My. God.

I think this movie looks horrible! I'm sorry but I just can't like this. My heart was somewhat racing when I clicked play and I was cringing most of the time.

I'm sorry.
The movie looks incredible! :D

Is that what you wanted to hear?! :D

lol Sorry I am stating my honest opinion. I'm not going to lie.

Who knows? Maybe the trailer will look good.

You mean the trailer that just came out?

I'm not sure how anyone could really think this movie looks horrible. Especially since you said the fight stunts and city cinematography looked great!! I mean we're all entitled to our own opinion but seriously!? Also, why is this comment in this thread? :oldrazz:

Because all the other threads are nuts and Anno mentioned the trailer.

And two good things out of all that is not good. I mean, I really think this movie LOOKS bad. The trailers are awful.

Of course, not all trailers make good movies look good.

I'm not having a go at you webhead731, so don't take it that way. You are naturally entitled to dislike the trailer. But how much of the dislike comes from the fact it's not a Raimi/Maguire helmed Spider-Man flick?

If this were a Raimi/Maguire flick and this was the trailer I'd probably just cry myself to sleep without posting.

But really, I am bummed that Spidey 4 was cancelled due to Sony being jerks, but I'm pretty much over it. If this reboot was looking good I'd say so.

Like I said earlier about Hulk. I'm a big Hulk fan, actually right after Spidey he is my favorite. I actually thought Hulk was good, but really flawed. I wanted a sequel. I was mad when they chose to restart it, but after a few news bits and images it had me hooked.

This doesn't. It has nothing to do with Raimi. I swear.

*5 hours later to return to thread after watching trailer; looks at title once more*
