I don't think Peter can see the symbiote.

I apologize if this has been discussed. But I'm thinking maybe he's completely unaware of it; like it's somehow shielding itself from his perceptions. That would explain not only the reflection that we've seen, but an early shot in the trailer in which he seems to be staring at his hands while in the belfry; like he's seeing the costume for the first time.:spidey: :sym:

i've never thought of that, but it makes sense... maybe that's the case. that would be kinda cool if they did that in the movie... i hope that's the plan.

I bounced that theory off one guy & he said, "Thanks a lot. Now I'm gonna be mad if they DON'T go that route!"

Nice observation. It would also explain why he would continue to wear it under his normal clothes, even though it's a shape shifter and could be any clothing he wants. And why it chose to feel like his suit. It he thought he was looking at the red suit and couldn't feel the webbing he might cotton on to it.

And I agree with that statement, if it doesn't turn out this way I'm going to be a little disappointed. :(

I thought about that, too. It can obviously morph or it couldn't become Venom.
Here's another thought; maybe THAT will be the explanation for why it doesn't trigger his spider-sense. If it can hide itself from his perception, surely it can block any internal warning he might get.

wasnt this obvious from the reflection scene in the trailer?

Wow good theory and I really hope that this is the way it goes. Also it could explain when MJ says "whats happening to you" and Pete replies "I don't know, but I have to stop it". He seems to acting more violent but doesn't know why and so he is at a loss to stop it. And yes you are right it does explain the reflection, I at first thought the reflection was there to visualise the new duplicites side of Parker, but your theory is a lot better. Yes and the hand thing in the tower, I was a little confused as to why he did this but not any more.

You had now better pray this is the way they go with it in the film :)

I hope you guys aren't gonna get mad at me for getting your hopes up if I'm wrong.

Man it's been a long time since I've posted in the Spidey boards.

That's a pretty cool idea. But if unbeknownst to Pete, he's swinging around in a black costume, you'd think someone, if not the Daily Bugle itself, would mention his new threads and Pete would be like "what black costume?"

I dunno.

"What's come over you? What's with the new look?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
I can see it. Besides, all JJJ ever does is lie on him. He'd just chalk it up to that.

Plus, since nobody takes Spidey pictures but him, all the symbiote need do is convince him to stop snapping pics. Voila! No evidence.

Well if you're right, then that would make for a startling revelation to Spidey when he finds out that an "alien symbiote is trying to permenantly bond itself to him physically and mentally."

.... Man that's heavy. I'd like to see Tobey act that out. Should be sweet.

I think the one thing we can agree on is that if I'm right, it'd be a sweet plot device.

I think so.

Really, it makes sense this way. Why else would a smart guy like Pete " knowingly fully embrace" some strange alien goo? Just because it makes him stronger? Nah, I don't think so. He'd try and get rid of it from day 1.

Even in the comics, once he found out it was alive, he tried to get that mess off of him.

I think you're on to something. Somehow he comes into contact with it (unbeknownst to him) and while sleeping it fully goes onto him as we saw in the trailer (obviously without his knowledge).

It could be how the alien operates. Since it survives by feeding off other creatures, it's method for bonding is that it can make itself "imperceptible" to the host.

Hmmm...

The more you feed into it, the more I hope I'm right.

I just can't believe I'm getting hyped over a plot I hoped would NEVER see the light of the Spider-Man franchise... namely the symbiote and Venom.

Well I for one will be mad and disappointed if your theory doesn't come into fruition on the screen, but just be aware you won't suffer, it will be a quick death based on you share my name :)

It never occured to me that voicing my theory could come back & bite me.

Truth be told, when I first saw the image, I thought maybe it was sort of a reminder of who he was underneath.

That's how I always read it as. I never once read it as literal.

same here.

It's a good thought but I don't think it's true.

They will have newspapers that say "Spider-Man in black!" and they do have that one newspaper of him holding a bag of money wearing the Symbiote costume saying he's a criminal. He has to see those.

I think the part in the trailer with him hanging upside down looking at the reflection of himself in red and blue was just for the trailer.

And wasn't he standing in front of a mirror in the Comic-Con trailer? He was wearing the Symbiote and was looking right at it.
