Because now it would be too predicitable. I hope Nolan does something more original.

I Am The Knight said:No Rachel Killing, by now the idea has just turned into a ridiculous thing. Batman shouldn't have to wait until Rachel gets killed so he can start hating The Joker. Joker was BORN to be Bats antithesis, Rachel will have nothing to do with that. The way Batman and The Joker play off each other will be more than enough. And yup, the Rachel killing is a message board cliche by now.
Mister J said:Cliche has nothing to do with it. Joker is Batman's greatest nemesis for much more than just their polarizing personalities. True, that interaction is part of it, but as you mentioned, Batman HATES The Joker. That relationship transcends basic "hero vs. villain" and evolved to something much more visceral. Why? Because Mr. J has managed to strike at Batman like no other villain has. He 'killed' one of his partners, crippled another and murdered the wife of one his closest allies. On top of that, Joker's the most visible reminder of the chaos and mayhem that plagues Gotham. No other of Batman's rogues has that type of resume. Joker can't be 'just another villain'. His on-screen representation needs to be true to his comic roots and cause pain for both, Bruce Wayne and Batman. Dawes has gotta go.
Admittedly, I can't stand Rachel and just want her gone. That said, I think she can finally be of some use here. Maybe even going as far as to make Bruce rethink about those who are close to him as he pursues his crusade (OK, now that might be cliched, so maybe no).I Am The Knight said:That's true, that makes Mr, J so special I just don't like the idea of going into the movie knowing what's going to happen to a character in the film like that, and it's probably too early for Joker to start getting personal with Batman, I agree he should do something on the level of killing Todd in the movies, but this is just his introduction chapter. I'd prefer just having Joker scarring Dent at the end, it would be personal, but not on the level of Rachel.
That's a little too convenient, isn't it? If she wanted to leave, wouldn't she have done so long ago. Her just leaving flies in the face of all that stuff she spouted about Gotham having no chance when the good people do nothing. Why would she just turn her back on the city when she was one of the few remaining elements of justice that hadn't been tainted by the corruption?Boom said:Just say she got transferred to a different city or something. They don't HAVE to kill her. It'd be nice, sure, but it's not necessary.
It's kinda scary how bad some people want to see her killed.
