I fear that Strange will fail and be the least successful MCU film

What's the last MCU film that disappointed? And don't say the one that made 1.4 billion.

Iron Man 2, Thor 2 and Ant-Man are the only ones that disappointed me. Three out of however many ain't bad.

The only MCU film that I have a feeling might underperforming is Spider-Man. Not that the film will be bad, mind you. We'll just have to see how keen people are to see a second reboot in such a short period of time - and coming off of a terrible film no less.

Especially because Sony might actually hurt the movie. If it was 100% Marvel Studios I wouldn't be worried.

I keep seeing clickbait sites post "articles" where they list "reasons" why Strange will be bad and be the downfall of Marvel. Some of those reasons are things like "They cast another white guy" and "he uses magic" and "his clothes suck." Yeah, Marvel is REALLY in trouble. They should just hang it up now! Quit while they're ahead!

OTOH, you will find a number of sites that're totally jazzed by Suicide Squad, which looks to be using magic too.

Strange is literally acast of Oscar mominated and winning actors. If it does bad at the Office critical response will be super positive and help.

Everyone thought Ant-Man would fail, but it made more money than the first Captain America and already has a sequel in the works.

Marvel probably could afford a failure at this point. Not a big costly one, but whatever.

I think at worst Doctor Strange wouldn't outright bomb, just under-perform.

The next failure will be Black Panther and if that is another hit it'll be Captain Marvel and if that is another hit it'll be GOTG 2 because the 1st was fluke and if that is a hit then it'll be Ant Man and the Wasp because there's no Edgar Wright influence at all and so on and so on.

No matter what Strange makes some will consider it a fail because the MCU has been on fire since Avengers. Deadpool doing amazing in his 1st film will probably also hurt it.

Your fears are gonna be unfounded, friend. Marvel knows what they're doing - its probably why we didn't get Strange until this late in their game.

You know you're on top when a movie like AoU is regarded as a "disappointment".

The only MCU film that I have a feeling might underperforming is Spider-Man. Not that the film will be bad, mind you. We'll just have to see how keen people are to see a second reboot in such a short period of time - and coming off of a terrible film no less.

I'm honestly hoping they keep the budget and scale pretty low so that it can still make a profit and confidently remain a viable franchise after Sony ran into the ground.

Eh, I liked AoU better than the first movie. I wouldn't call it a failure in any sense of the word.

I think Dr Strange is probably the riskiest movie for Marvel in Phase 3. However, a lot of the ideas about why it will not be liked are the same as the fears surrounding several previous Marvel films, most especially Thor. I remember it being derided and doubted because it had magic and "corny" mystical elements to it as well, but in the end it was well received because of great casting choices and by being a solid, enjoyable movie. Dr Strange looks to be turning out the same so far, which is to be expected given Marvel's track record.

I think the larger -- and more likely -- fear is that superhero movies in general might begin to feel repetitive and uninteresting. That "new" and "wow" factor has definitely worn off, so people should question how long this current trend of popularity will continue, especially with so many studios trying to get a piece of the action. Over-saturation of the market is definitely happening at the present time.

I don't see Strange being a risk at all. Audiences continue to crave these comic book films as long as they continue to offer something very unique and entertaining. Strange definitely will be something very fun and different in terms of visual and story. And it will introduce a whole new side to the MCU.

I keep saying once these films get repetitive and stale and doing the same crap over and over in other films will people lose interest. This is why Deadpool succeeded. It did some things with a character that made it fun and was able to appeal to another audience.

To be the least successful MCU film, Doctor Strange would have to score lower than 61% in the Tomato Meter and gross less than 260 million WW. Good luck with that.

This trailer tore up social media in a way the first GoTG trailer never did.

I predict Doctor Strange performs a good deal better than Ant-Man if the film is as good as the trailers suggest.

Yup. In terms of "blockbuster potential", Dr. Strange has a much higher ceiling than Ant-Man, which was, by design, a smaller scale tale than your average MCU fare. If Dr. Strange is well received by critics/audiences, I see the floor at the box office being $700 mill worldwide.
