Look at that last pic in black and white. Put your thumb over the hair line....that's Hellboy.

Using weapons is one thing but the big hand gun is a blatant rip-off of Hellboy.

I want to see this and I hope it's a serious, dark, R-rated movie with bad ass heavy action. And I hope it's a huge success.
But don't try to repackage a character and pass it off as original.
Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

There are many ways to humanize the character without copying another. Give him a different arsenal of weapons.
Putting the gun in his hand is NOT original.
It's not even cool.

That black and white drawing is Hellboy to a T....
That should prove to you how this production team is thinking.

As long as he has the strength, (and I'm sure he will) I don't care.

Y'know, I love Hellboy, but the concept of a Monster hunting other monsters is far from that original. Even with or without a gun.

Del Toro would of been tailor made for this. It's an idea no director would want to pass up.

But yes, he would be great directing ANY monster movie.

Del Toro is looking to do a Frankenstein adaptation of some sort soon. He wants to base his creature on Berni Wrightson's illustrations that he did for a book edition. Check it out.

but Frankenstein's Monster using a gun? It's about as redundant as vampires and werewolves using sub-machine guns to kill each other. He's got the brute strength. I wanna see the monster pummel the Wolfman, not shoot him.

Anyways, it seems like a strange hybrid of Hellboy and The Goon. I must check out this comic. But the movie doesn't sound like it would hit theaters. It sounds more like a straight to video movie that i'd buy and bug out after watching it because of how cool it was. If this hit theaters, i'm not sure it would be too successful, but who knows.

Yeah, I'd be surprised too if this hits theaters.
I look forward to it though, it really seems like it would be a great fun monster movie.

Look at the first cover. No gun, he's pummeling. And the gun could be able to draw people in.

I think the gun could be used for special assignments like killing werewolves. Because yeah, good luck killing one without silver bullets.

Exactly. And in the first pic Hunter posted it looks like the original design for the Creature based on the descrpition in the novel. Which is infinitely better than the one from the covers on the first page which is derivative of the Karloff monster.

May I add that I don't find TATOPOULOS' character designs and make-up effects all that appealing. I mean, the concept art is fine but I don't like his work. They're kinda mundane.

I, Frankenstein Lives at Lakeshore

Lakeshore Entertainment's chairman and CEO Tom Rosenberg announced today that Lakeshore will re-team with writer/actor Kevin Grevioux and director/award-winning special effects designer Patrick Tatopoulos of the "Underworld" franchise on I, Frankenstein. Production is scheduled to begin in July of 2010.

I, Frankenstein is a contemporary fantasy thriller in which the original monster of Victor Frankenstein stands between the human race and an uprising of supernatural creatures determined to overthrow the world.

"Patrick Tatopoulos made his directorial debut with us on "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" and Tom and I were so pleased that we have been looking for another opportunity to work with Patrick," said Gary Lucchesi, President of Lakeshore. "When Kevin Grevioux and Robert Sanchez presented us with 'I, Frankenstein' we knew immediately that this was a great and original franchise that could best utilize Patrick's extraordinary talent and vision."

An original screenplay by Kevin Grevioux, I, Frankenstein, based on Grevioux's upcoming Darkstorm Studios graphic novel of the same name, will be produced by Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Richard Wright. Patrick Tatopoulos is attached to direct with Kevin Grevioux and Robert Sanchez attached as executive producers.

Tatopoulos commented: "It is a privilege to be given the chance to direct this highly visual piece. Kevin Grevioux has created something truly special with 'I, Frankenstein' and I couldn't dream of a better team than my friends at Lakeshore to make this project happen."

"The re-imagining of the Frankenstein mythos and the diverse creatures of legend is a dream project for me," said Grevioux. "I'm blessed and thankful that both Tom and Gary really sparked to the material and recognized this property's potential as not only a film, but a launch pad for various multi-media platforms. I'm loving the sound of this, will be following this closely, it does sound a lot like Hellboy in its concept so I hope they manage to throw some clear differences in there.

This movie should just be a monstor mash-up along the lines of Hellboy II, but with monstors we are familiar with. And it needs to be better than Van Helsing, Frankenstein just didnt get enough action in that movie.

It all does sound very Hellboyish, for both the movies and the comics, but I am curious to see if they runs with the comparisons or run away from them.

Either way, I think this is a great concept, and I will be following this closely, anyone know when its going to be released?

I love this idea of Frankenstein mashing with the usual suspects, but I don't think I can take another Van Helsing videogame ****efest...
