Del Toro is an acknowledged fan of "Frankenstein." He has busts of Boris Karloff as the monster in his house. One of his biggest filmic influences, the 1973 Spanish film The Spirit of the Beehive, revolves around a showing of the classic Universal Frankenstein. He has raved about Bernie Wrightson's illustrated version and the original Frank Darabont script eventually filmed as Mary Shelley's Frankenstein by Kenneth Branagh in '94 and all-but-disowned by Darabont. Del Toro's version, however, sounds decidedly different…

«I'm not doing 'Mary Shelly's Frankenstein.' I'm doing an adventure story that involves the creature. I cannot say much, but it's not the central creation story, I'm not worried about that. The fact is I've been dreaming of doing a 'Frankenstein' movie since I was a child. The one thing I can promise is, compared to Kenneth Branagh, I will not appear shirtless in the movie!»

I'm really interested in what Del Toro will do with Frankenstein, i really hope that Doug Jones is cast as the Monster.

See? We like the idea

I really like the idea.

Isn't he rumoured to be doing a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hide film? I REALLY like that idea.

He better be a big evil bastard

Not the crappy wuss he was in Van Helsing.

Guillermo Del Toro talks about Frankenstein.

If Del Toro makes it...I have to see it. The guy is a master of the stylized cinema and great story telling.

It will be along time before we see this movie.

Sounds awesome. And the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sounds great too. I prefer the latter, but either one I'm willing to see.

From a new interview with Doug Jones:

Are you still up for “Frankenstein”?
This would be yet another collaboration with Guillermo del Toro. He recently announced his plans to make his own adaptation of Mary Shelley’s book, with a part of those plans casting me as Frankenstein’s Monster … leaving me breathless, speechless and a whole lot of other “lesses.” Doing this movie, with this director would be nothing short of another dream come true. But it’s difficult to talk about a project that is this far in the future, as Guillermo will be hip deep in “The Hobbit” for the next few years still. Let’s all join hands and hope this dream does indeed come true.

Branagh's Frankenstein wasn't like the novel at all really. Same characters. Del Toro's interpretation will be awesome, the man's got a way with monsters.

Is it me your looking for?
Oh great, now i have that song stuck inside my head :hehe:

I'd love to see what Del Toro would do with this project, so let's hope he gets back to it after The Hobbit.

It was pretty close. Scenes taking right out of the book. Its when the bride came in that the thing got away from it.
