I, Frankenstein

One thing I hope we get is a unique Frankenstein design, one thing Van Helsing had going for it, was the design of Frank, which I thought was pretty damn good.

But this Frankenstein will need to be more mobile than that one, I just hope it looks unique, and most importantly, big enough to handle itself.

What do people think of Eckhart starring in this?

I wouldnt have thought it was his type of movie as he normally does smart movies, but then again he did do Battle : LA. Good casting though he is a very good actor.

Shouldn't it be "Me, Frankenstein"?

I kid, I kid.

This looks interesting.I'll see this movie when it comes out.

Whoa, good and interesting casting. He should definitely be able to pull that emotion to the monster off. I mean look at him when he becomes Two-Face.

Aaron Eckhart is set to star in 'I, Frankenstein'.

The 43-year-old actor will take on a leading role in the movie, based on Kevin Grevioux's graphic novel about the creature from Mary Shelley's classic story named Adam who escapes the baying crowds in the book and manages to live on into the modern day.

Stuart Beattie has written the script, which he claims is a very 'human' story.

He told Variety: 'Mary Shelley's story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.'

Shooting on the project is set to begin in Australia in January 2012, which Stuart will also direct.

It is only his second directorial effort following 'Tomorrow When The War Began' but he has previously worked as a writer on 'Australia' and the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise.

Aaron most recently starred in 'Battle: Los Angeles', and alongside Nicole Kidman in 'Rabbit Hole' in 2010.
So we got a new director aswell. I guess Patrick Tatopoulos dropped out.

I hate Tatopoulos' art designs. All fleshy and dark looking but generic.

Awesome, comic sounds great so might read it beforehand, love the sound of this though and Eckhart is great.

This film sounds like it could be very interesting as long as they don't get too carried away and turn it into a "monster mash". I think this film would work best as a noir urban crime drama that focuses on the battle of wits and fists between detective Frankenstein's Monster and crime boss Dracula. I'd like to see them keep these two main characters as close to their Shelley and Stoker origins as possible just updated to fit the new modern urban environment. This leaves plenty of room for vampires and werewolves (since Dracula was both in Stoker's original) so there can be diversity in the monsters, but hopefully not too much more than that. If they just start going crazy with too many other kinds of monsters it will be a Van Helsing disaster all over again. Frankie and Drac are the big two anyways and that's who the audience is going to want to see IMHO.

I do hope they take this film seriously and try to make something deeper than CGI slow-mo fight sequence montage filled with wacky monsters.

If it was in bad hands, I could see this being like 'Priest' or 'Legion' bad. But hopefully it'll be unique enough to be interesting.

I think Hellboy is the perfect template for this movie, monstors vs monstors, etc, follow that, although do some things differently, and we could have a good movie on our hands.

Eckhart has me sold.

Idk, i think the frankenstein monster has been way over done, especially the modern angle. i'd rather see other horror icons get this kind of treatment.

Will be interesting to see what they do with this.

I read the Dean Koontz series of Frankenstein novels recently and quite liked them. Frankenstein himself (as in the scientist) is still alive, having carried out numerous more experiments and research after creating the original monster, and in doing so he has found ways to slow his ageing process and keep his body young. He's completely isolated from humanity and views them as inferior. The monster itself is called Deucalion, is very intelligent and although it had huge anger and rage issues in the early years of it's life, has now settled into a much more calm being who does not believe in murder or maiming innocent life. Koontz also introduced a totally new twist to the monster, one which comes about because of the lightning used to imbue it with life at it's creation.

The stories aren't a reboot, but essentially continue the Frankenstein story with a new perspective set in modern day.

^ That is also being made into a movie.

There are actually seven or eight Frankenstein movies in current development.

What? Frankenstein has had little presence in film for decades now.

Agreed, Frankenstein deserves a good modern take. As does the Invisible Man, and some other horror icons.

Vampires and Werewolves on the other hand ...................... done to death!

Well Dracula is, and should be, an important aspect to this story. With Dracula comes vampires and werewolves (remember in Stoker's original he was both). This can create a sort of gang rivalry scenario (hopefully not too much like Underworld). I'm not sure I'd really want too much else going on this film though. Those are two incredibly compelling characters to explore; in addition to the entirely new atmosphere they are looking to create. I've heard rumors of the Invisible Man, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Jeckyl and Hyde, the Mummy, ghosts, and goblins in this as well. I fear that will be too much for one coherent film.

Frankie as hard nosed detective working to save the human race who have despised and shunned him for nearly 200 years against crime lord Dracula in a urban noir crime drama; is a pretty stellar concept on its own. Why add in too much more than that to clutter it up?

I believe the concept is that there are two "crime families": The vampires and the warewolfs, and they're at war. Other than that, I expect other monsters to be just small participations or references.

That makes sense to me. Perhaps Dracula is using his "dual" nature (werewolf/vampire) to manipulate both warring factions and Frankenstein needs to piece it together to stop him from destroying humanity. That could be a very cool plot twist.

Bill Nighy and Socratis Otto have joined the cast. Nighy will be the main villain, a demon prince, and Otto will be his right-hand man.
