So my college will be putting on a production of student written 1-act plays, and auditions were this past Tuesday, and I just got cast for one of the roles!

I'm very nervous, yet excited, as this will be my first time ever participating in a theatre production (outside of elementary school Christmas plays in 1st grade). I wanted to do some at my community college back home, but I never did because my work schedule always conflicted. This time I said **** it, I'll make my schedule work so I can do it.

I'm excited to see the script, as I have no idea what the play is or who my character is.

Congratulations. Performing is definitely at the top of my list of 'Fun Things To Do'. If you're good with people, chances are you'll be good on stage. And nerves are completely normal and healthy. But don't let them overpower the excitement. I'm sure you'll instantly become comfortable when you start rehearsing.

Congrats on getting cast! hope you dont get given a lame part

There are no lame parts, only lame actors.

With one-act plays, though, chances are each role will be fairly significant.

Congratulations! I am thrilled for you. I know you will be fantastic. :)

That's how it was during auditions. I had never auditioned for a part before, so when I showed up, didn't know how it worked, and saw a bunch of actors who I have seen in various plays on campus already, I did get a bit nervous.

But as soon as I got my first scene to cold read, all the good memories of all the acting classes I took in the past came flooding back, and it all came pretty naturally to me.

While I don't know the play, one of the scenes that I did read for my audition WAS from this play. It's called "Tzu's Palace", and the ONLY thing I know about it is that there is some homo-eroticism in the play. The character that I read as had met his boyfriend at like a transvestite strip club.

Now the role that I got cast as is neither the character that I read, nor his boyfriend, but I wouldn't be surprised if I gotta get touchy feely with some other dudes.

But really, I'm secure enough with my own sexuality that it doesn't bother me. I was playfully gay with one of my friends that I used to work with, just because I knew he'd get weirded out and it was always fun to see his reaction. If anything, I'm more nervous about if there are any scenes where I gotta start taking off clothes, because one of the questions on our audition sheet asked if we were okay with partial nudity. I put "yes", but really, I'm pretty self concious when it comes to my body, so hopefully that's not an issue.

Congratulations Nell!

just don't be like me and miss your cue on stage because you were too busy playing poker backstage with the fellas.

Congrats Nell! Too bad we can't take a Hype field trip to see you perform.

Live theater is awesome. I hope you have fun! :woot:

Thanks everyone.

There was a performance tonight that I decided to go to (so glad I did too, it was amazing! My school seems to have a very good theatre department, this is only my 2nd semester there and I've been to 3 performances now, and each one was very impressive), and low and behold, the lead actress whom I talked to after the show just so happened to be my director! I went up to her and said "Great performance tonight!" (because she was INCREDIBLE) and she looks at me for a second and goes "You're my Dwayne!!"

So I was able to talk to her for a little bit about the play, apparently it is a farce, taking place in a restaurant where everything goes wrong. She says that my character is the belligerant, redneck boyfriend, and I get to use lines like "fish ****" and stuff like that :) So it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, and a nice little ego boost she told me she was particularly impressed with my audition :word::word:

That's great! I would think that's the fun part about theater - getting to do and say stuff you wouldn't be able to do in real life.

Theater is so cool. It's my favorite thing to do when I'm in the city.

Good luck! I was in my first play of Alice in Wonderland, it's a lil nerve raking, but thankfully I was the White Rabbit so I had to nervous :P but it's really fun, and makes you wanting to try it again as someone, something else. Despite this was my first play I'm clearly gonna do it again.

Okay, so I just got my script tonight, and did the first read through with the rest of the cast.

OMFG this is going to be amazing. Premise of my character:

My fiance` comes to this restaurant with her professor, where she ends up having sex with him in the bathroom to get a good grade. After the professor leaves, I come in in a big way, loud obnoxious southern drawl, yelling and screaming about being hungry, *****ing and moaning to my fiance` about making sure the sporting event gets TiVo'd. I end up putting the waiter down for being a "god damn little foreign sum-*****". The restaurant sucks, and is out of all the food I want, so I end up storming out pissed off. My fiance` then tells her friend there that she's gonna break up with me.

The next scene has me taking a prostitute to the restaurant on a "date" to make my ex-fiance` jealous. She ends up coming to the restaurant with a date to make me jealous. It turns out that her date ends up being the drag queen gay lover of the owner of the restaurant. I try to win back my ex-fiance`, the hooker gets horny and wants to get ****ed so she can "go home". The restaurant owner and his drag queen lover start making out, and I cover my eyes so as to not have to see "them gays", and in the process trip over a bucket of puke, and break my neck. After I'm dead, my ex-fiance` goes off to have sex with the waiter, and the prostitute that I was there with, determined to "get hers", molests my dead body.

:wow::wow::wow:

That role is hilarious, lol.

Congrats on landing the role man

That is the greatest role a thespian could be asked to play. If you ace that role you'll forever be a gentleman and a scholar in my eyes good sir.

Show was tonight, after getting pushed back. Originally supposed to be the 28th, but it got postponed until tonight. We were the first of 3 shows to go tonight. I feel like the whole cast nailed it.

And not to be biased, but I also feel like our show was the best one of the night. Good laughs from the audience. I was incredibly nervous as I waited for my first entrance, but as soon as I got out there, it just all came real natural. Fun fun night.

Congrats on a successful premiere. I hope you bang the leading lady.
