As you all may know, i recently got a job at Wendy's.

I did he orientation, i got the tour, i met everyone, i filled out the forms.

They told me to call last Thursday to find out when my first day of work is and what time etc.

So i called, and they said I work Tuesday 2-4?

2-4??!!

A two hour shift?

What is that? I am saving for a thousand dollar guitar, and two hour shifts are not my thing.

I don't want to be picky at this age (15, 16 next month) and I'll take any job at this point of time, but come on? A two hour shift?

Is that normal or what, because I am really confused.

Call them back and ask if they actually meant a 14 hour shift.

Almost 5 AM here, can't tell myself anymore :p

That'll probably be pretty common at first kid. I wouldn't assume more then a for a week or two to get your feet wet. Then you"ll probably jump to 4 - 6 hour shifts.

Yeah, that is extremely common. Also, the new person usually gets the worst shifts even after training, so don't be caught too off-guard if that happens, as well.

It's common. It sucks. Just do it and get the feel of the place and soon you'll be getting more hours. However, because of your age, you might be limited to the number of hours you can work per week.

Because of your age, they're not going to give you a ton of hours, partly because they have legal limits on how long they can schedule a minor, but after you've been there a short while you should at least get 4 hour shifts.

Alright guys sounds good :)

I just wanted to double check to see if it was normal cause it kind of surprised me at first :p

Anyways, thanks again

Yeah, you're in training right now. Also be prepared to do the worst jobs there. You're low man on the totem pole, so you're be getting the worst of everything jobs, hours, etc..

This really begs for a true answer...I had a roommate who was hired on cause nothing was available. He did everything you did. He work at 5am til 2pm. 40 hours a week first two weeks. It dropped to 20hours a week by the end of month 1. By time he was fired he was asked to work 2-4! of course they sent him home at 230 cause it wasnt busy. Wendys blows get out while you can. So you dont use them as a job reference.

Yeah, it might just be another short training shift..

It's your first week man, they want you in there long enough to "get" how things work, but not long enough to get overwhelmed by a rush of customers and screw something up. I'm sure you are on some sort of probationary period even though they didnt explicitly tell you where you'll be getting short shifts for about a month till they know you can handle it.

Guitars under $1000 are usually crap, cheep woods, machine built, sloppy fit and finish, crap electronics and wiring. I've got two Carvins, a DC 200 I got for $1700 and DC 400 for $2100 as well as a Jackson SLH that was $1500 at the time. Just a matter of how seriously you take your playing, for me it's a big part of my job so I have to buy quality. Those are not even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to cost either, I've played guitars that cost more than some small cars.

Just be glad you have a f****** job in the first place man. There's millions of Americans including me who wish they had work.

And? If you have the luxury of only worrying about paying for a guitar, you shouldn't be complaining about the hours you work.

Making 14 bucks a day ain't too much better than making none a day. Nothing you can survive on.

You can roam the streets, begging with a sign and make more than that in two hours :lmao:

I'm pissed at him because he's some snot nosed punk *****ing about only working 2 hours a day. If I spoke Spanish I'd do "Mexican" work if I had to. It would go great with my student loan checks anyway. S*** I went to Target 3 months ago and saw some teenager working there and instead of doing his f****** job , which was to push the carts , he was f****** texting ! That's the same god damn position I applied for and the c*** suckers said that position is not available.

Chill out, it's his first job and he's 15. He came here looking for advice, now he has a better understanding of it all.
