I got the shaft!!!

As you all may know, i recently got a job at Wendy's.

I did he orientation, i got the tour, i met everyone, i filled out the forms.

They told me to call last Thursday to find out when my first day of work is and what time etc.

So i called, and they said I work Tuesday 2-4?

2-4??!!

A two hour shift?

What is that? I am saving for a thousand dollar guitar, and two hour shifts are not my thing.

I don't want to be picky at this age (15, 16 next month) and I'll take any job at this point of time, but come on? A two hour shift?

Is that normal or what, because I am really confused.

I work in HR now. I believe that 2 hour shift is just a trial thing to see how you handle it. They will give you more hours as you progress. Just be patient.

It's a very common thing with Wendy's. I think maybe even all fast food places. I think the same thing happened with a guy at a McDonalds. Can't remember. However, yeah, I've heard many people getting two hour shifts at Wendy's.

As someone stated earlier in the thread, it's probably a training shift. They just want you to start getting a handle of things. Show you how to work the fryer and making the burgers. Have you work the register and the drive thru window.

I'm sure once you get there they will fill you in more on your schedule. I'm sure you will get more hours as time progresses and if you even like it. You gotta bring your customer service face with you. One thing you will learn real quick working at Wendy's, or any fast food like that, the general public SUCKS ASS! :oldrazz:

If you work the register or the drive thru. Whew. Be prepared to encounter some serious jerk offs.

Everyone *****ing at him needs to repeat to themselves the number 15 and remember that priorities, bills and everything are very much different at that age. My first purchase I bought with my first job was a video game system. Things are just different at that age.

You too? My first pay bought me a PSone.

Uhhm, I call ******** on that, Bamf. You were most definitely like that. Everyone whined about trivial things when they were 15. It's part of growing up for EVERYONE.

Everyone whines about trivial things as adults too. We just pretend that a lot of it is important.

Wait, doesn't "getting the shaft" in terms of a job mean getting fired?

Sometimes it mean you're getting a raise. :awesome:

Thanks guys for the advice and info about the two hour shift.

In no way shape or form am i mad about the two hour shift, I am actually exited to work today, but i was just kinda surprised at a two hour shift. But like you guys said, it's probably training.

Anywho, thanks again :)

And? If you have the luxury of only worrying about paying for a guitar, you shouldn't be complaining about the hours you work.

******* agreed.

Chill out, it's his first job and he's 15. He came here looking for advice, now he has a better understanding of it all.

Most places don't let you work anywhere until you're at LEAST 16. They probably only gave him 2 hours because of the age restrictions.

A few things for the OP.

2-4 pm? I sure hope you get out of school before 2pm when it starts up again.

I will never understand the "need it now" generation. If you want something, you save for it, no matter how long it takes. If you lose interest in the thing you're saving for, then would it have been worth it to buy in the first place? No.

All this impulse buying crap is ridiculous, and I echo what others have said here. You have a job. Do it and work your way up the ladder like all of us do. Some of us don't even HAVE a job right now.

And just to give you some food for thought; when I had my first job at 15 I had to give my mother 80% of my paycheque because she couldn't afford to pay the bills on her own.

/rant.

So you're going to work hard cleaning bathroom at Wendy's, making $20 a week saving every penny to buy that $1,000 guitar. You've finally saved enough money and you run to the guitar store and lay down $1,000 in $5 bills. You take it home, excited to play it for the first time and you let a chord out and it feels awesome. Then, because you're 15 and have ADD, you stop playing guitar after 2 weeks, discover girls and your $1,000 guitar is left collecting dust under your bed next to that other thing you really need to have and didn't use.

Or he uses the guitar to get girls and no part of his bed needs dusting b/c he's bustin' cheeks all over his room.

Doubt it. Not with a job at Wendy's. He needs to save up and get a car, now then we're talking about some zoomazoom in his room room.

What happens when he gets the chick back to his room and there's nothing in there to interest her before the sexin commences? Showing off your Batman posters only get you so far.

Well then you didn't deserve to be sexin' anyone if you need a guitar to hold her interest. Either way, a car is more convenient because you can just commence love making in the backseat, away from your parents bedroom right next to yours.

Good luck. You should keep us updated on your progress. :o

Yeah let us know when you get promoted to burger flipper.

This is true. Or he could sneak into Wendy's after it closes and flip her burger there :o

They are probably giving you a test shift to see how you do. That's what I would do if I hired a 15 year old kid with no work experience who won't shut up about the movie Jaws. :awesome:

Did the work today, and aha it was actually kinda enjoyable.

I have to call in tomorrow to arrange my two next shifts next week, and then the week after that I work about 4 shifts a week at about 4-5 hours a shift approx.

Looks like today was just a lil bit of training and same with next week.

And ahah, one word of advice, DO NOT eat the chili at Wendy's. EVER.
