I knew batfans were obessive but come on?

HAHAHA! Hilarious. Keep going...I love it. The laughing stock of fanboys...and that's saying something.

It's funny Batfans are so obsessed over a version of the Joker that in reality is a departure from the Joker in the comics (waits for some "..but he kept the spirit of the character" bullsh**).

Like I said in an earlier post of this thread, who has ever played the Joker badly. For all the talk of how hard it must be to play this part nobody has had a hard time doing it, which in no small part is due to the fact that there have been multiple versions of the joker over the years.

I'm a die hard Batman fan...and these guys are giving me a bad name :down

Ledger's performance was breath taking...but not enough to warrant retiring the character from film and television indefinately...end of story.

^lol honestly...

Ever since "TDK" started picking up momentum and during all this time of its outstanding success, I've told people repeatedly that just because you're crazy over "The Dark Knight" doesn't make you a fan of the character...it just makes you a fan of the movie.

If talking about Harvey Dent makes you solely think about Aaron Eckhart, you're a "TDK" fan...

If talking about Harvey Dent makes you think about Billy Dee Williams, Tommy Lee Jones, Aaron Eckhart and that awesome rumor about Clint Eastwood potentially showing up on the 60s TV show...THEN you're a 'Batman' fan.

I feel guilty as I primarily post in the Batman forums, but one of the biggest things I cannot stand in the slightest over there is the fact that each of the fanboys (yes, I'm excluding myself from them) seems to believe that Heath Ledger and Chris Nolan have become Gods of sorts because of what they've done with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I love these movies, and have always been a huge fan of Batman... But I also act for a living, so I kind of see it as offensive when the Batforum Cultists claim that "NOBODY could EVER top Ledger... EVER!" It's ******ed... As if they know the first thing about acting in the first place. :p

I loved the performance... It was so much fun to watch, and it's one of those landmark roles that, as an actor, I would try to emulate what he did to become so immersed into a character and put on such a phenomenal performance.

But at the same time, to say that if Nolan had selected another actor to play The Joker instead of Heath would never have been as good is just ignorant. Newsflash: Heath wasn't the only one who put an effort into turning The Joker into what it was. There's a large creative team that puts an effort into each and every character.

I'd have no problem with another villain in Batman 3 at all... But at the same time, The Joker's return seems the most logical to me.

Funniest part about it is, I'd bet that AT LEAST 99.99% of the "Nobody can outdo Ledger" fanboys also said, "The Joker isn't a gay cowboy" when Heath Ledger was cast.

I just think that you can love different versions of the character.

I liked Jack in the role because Jack is always interesting to watch. I could have done with less Jack and more Joker but I liked him in the role.

I loved Mark Hamill/Timm/Dini Joker. If that Joker was allowed to kill people and be even more evil he would have been even more perfect than he already was.

I loved Ledger Joker. Personally I could have done with more laughing but Ledger's Joker was fantastic in everyway. He had a great laugh, a great voice and great mannerisms.

Even Cesar Romero did a good job with what he had to work with.

The only Joker that I do hate is that "The Batman" Joker. The horrible character design and only okay Joker voice equals your version f**king sucks ass.

To be honest, I never liked Nicholson's from the start because of the "too much Nicholson, not enough character" issue.

That got me a verbal lashing in the Batforums pretty quickly.

A petition isnt necessary. Nolan's not gonna recast. I can almost guarantee it.

There's no guarantee with that. Nolan's a business man... As that's what directing/acting/cinema as a whole is first and foremost... A business. If he wants The Joker in, he'll put The Joker in. If he wants to move on, he will. It's up to the man running the business, not the fans that think The Joker died with Heath Ledger.

As much as I liked Batman Begins, I hate how it birthed the "reboot teh series!!!!!" trend. :whatever:

And how the Batfans already "guarantee" that Nolan's Batman series will end after the next film, and we'll have to wait 10-15 years for a re-boot.

You certainly have a point. From Ceasar Romero to Mark Hammill there really has never been a bad Joker.

Okay, I have to ask. when was Mark Hammill the joker?

And all over the Batman Animated series, as well as the Justice League cartoons.

Nolan's got far too much respect for what Ledger did to put the character in anymore of his movies, for ****s and giggles. Its not gonna happen, I'm sure of it.

Now, I'm sure The Dark Knight wont be the Jokers last onscreen portrayal, and it's a ******ed thing for these fans to think they have the right to ask for. The Batman franchise is infinitely renewable. The films will be around for years and years to come, and different actors will come and go... Batman, Gordon, Alfred, The Joker. None of these characters will end with Bale, Oldman, Caine or Ledger. But as long as Nolan is doing these, I cant see him recasting the Joker. It's just a ****ing stupid thing to do. And Nolan clearly aint no dummy.

These people make me ashamed to call myself a batfan. In fact anyone who thinks that just b/c they watch TDK makes them an expert on Batman does.

Not anymore! They have a new favourite now. To like Nicholson is to be unpopular.

In my opinion, Mark is still the best Joker in film/television history. He just did the character so perfectly. Heath definitely put his own spin and stamp on the character, but when I read Batman it's Mark's voice I hear in my head, not Heath.

I agree.

As to the question of whether Nolan would re-cast the Joker, I am of the belief that Nolan will do whatever serves the story best. If that means re-casting, so be it. I don't put too much stock in these fans putting up petitions and such nonsense. As I witnessed last Summer, online petitions couldn't stop the sale of Budweiser. I guaranteethat their is a petition out there to stop the new Star Trek film. It won't stop it from coming out.
More to the point - Online stuff like that is just ridiculous to me.
