I have a feeling they'll do something stupid and make Ray/Freddie Prinze Jr a killer in the new one.

Saw it tonight. About what I expected, perhaps a little bit better. Like most of these legacy sequels, it's significantly better when it's just kind of being its own movie that's just using the generic premise. Trying to weave in Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt is such a nightmare. Not that I'm going to be complaining about seeing the latter. She's looking fantastic as always. Same goes for Madelyn Cline and Chase Sui Wonders my beloveds.

The killer reveal was pretty obvious from the jump out of the friend group. There were only two possible choices, so I wasn't the least bit surprised. There being two was also obvious as well. The second being Freddie Prinze was stupid as all hell. So lame to make him a bad guy. One of those things that actively ruins the movie experience as a whole kind of bad.

Seeing SMG was nice. Was curious to see how they worked her in. Guess it only made sense to do it as a dream sequence.

The cheeky joke references to the second film were funny and charming in the film proper, but I was very happy and pleasantly surprised to see Brandy actually show up in the post credits scene to set up a sequel. I hope we get that because the setup is ridiculous as hell and could be fun.

Somehow, I got the end scene on my youtube feed. I watched. I laughed.

I genuinely do hope that this has a small enough budget to justify a sequel...

A ridiculous requel knockoff that is almost in "so bad it's good" territory, but not quite. Still had fun with some of it.

The original 2 films are not great by any means, either, so this didn't feel too far off.

Ugh. I'll probably still watch this anyway when it's on streaming for Chase, Madelyn, and one of my throwback crushes JLo Hewitt but that's such a ****y shock value twist.

4/10. Jennifer and Freddie were great. It was nice to see the Fisherman back in action with other fishing tools being utilized. I enjoyed the mid-credits scene.

But, boy oh boy did I miss Kevin's writing. The inciting incident didn't justify a good enough reason for any of these characters to go on a killing spree. Speaking of, the characters were vapid, shallow and/or flat. The dialogue was not great. Little to no suspense. Low energy acting for the most part, aside from Madelyn, who was decent. The effects in a certain scene - while that idea was nice - was very distracting. Lastly, that reveal at the end... hated it.

I just watched it and the way some of yall never said anything.......................how dare you.

But overall I thought it was decent. I think it needed one more draft to work out some of the kinks, esp a MAJOR kink but its not as horrible as I was expecting. The characters all had a certain charm to them and I think they did a great job of doing all of the throwbacks to the OG. Most of them felt very natural imo.

Madelyn/Danica was easily the best character in the film and I was about to walk out VERY pissed that they made the same mistake they made back in 97 by killing off the superior character only to have Ava be the lone survivor but I'm glad that they faked us out on that had Danica ultimately survive.

I felt personally attacked when they revealed Ray to be one of the killers. I was enjoying most of the film up until that part and I feel like it officially went off the cliff once they did that. It made no sense and had no good lead up. Ray is shown to have moved on. He has a successful business. There's ZERO memorabilia of the OG gang but somehow he is ready to kill off a bunch of young adults for making less of a mistake than what he and his made back in the day? ALl because someone asked him to? Because 30 years later the town is moving on? It just made ZERO SENSE. They should've kept it with the preacher dude being the murderer.

I think the podcaster should've survived longer and actually survive to tell the tale with Danica tbh. I loved her Helen merch.

Speaking of Helen, I love how she was all over this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the pics. The tshirt. The grave. The float. They did their best. The dream sequence....I both loved it and hated it. I get what they were going for but my biggest thing was.....there is no technology that can put SMG back to how she looked in the OG. They tried to "deage" her to a degree but she's clearly older. Way skinnier. Not even rocking her OG hairdo. So it felt a bit weird even for a dream sequence.

What they should have done instead....and it would make PERFECT sense imo...is have SMG/Ryan come back and reunite with JLove/FPjr for a dream sequence that Ray or Julie has. Either would be dreaming a "what if" where they're all happy, they all lived, they're happily married to one another and then have it turn into a nightmare of Helen/Barry being murdered all over again. That way you dont have to pull any de-aging effects that dont work. And you get the OGs back together.

The postcredits scene with Brandy...it was just poorly acted but I didnt understand their decision to have Julie/Brandy be estranged vs still very much intouch and bffs. The way they played it, they might as well be strangers again.
