WB creating live-action Akira

The train wreck happened when the script was turned into the patronizing hogwash it currently is.

The finished product will be whatever remains of this stinking affair once it hits the ground.
It's pretty bad, I've read several spoilers and it just sounds dreadful. Akira never needed a remake. The movie, while not completely accurate, was more than adaquate and an animated classic.

Wait, Kristen Stewart was offered the role of Kei?

It's bad enough that WB casted not one Asian for this adaptation, but they're also apparently stockpiling on s**tty and talentless actors and actresses for this movie.

Count me out.

Yeah I know it's lame.

I knew this was going to get white washed the second I heard they were adapting it so it wasn't really a shock to me. I was shocked when that list of actors they wanted was released.

I'll probably download it though.

Oldman, Freeman, Fassbender, Pine and Knightley I can agree with but Hundled, Timberlake, Garfield, Miller, and Stewart? What the hell are they thinking?

Speaking of which, I just watched the trailer for Chronicle. Akira-ish vibe (hand-held version)?

that looks pretty good....prob put more thought into that then they did with akira...which is a shame because it could be pretty awesome, but seems....money grab.

I agree.

Akira took a massive wrong turn. I'm so disappointed with the casting.

Chronicle looks good.

I remember saying in the thread where I first saw that trailer, that there was a scene that looked like the climactic scene with Testuo and the cops/army. Been awhile since Ive seen the movie.

I'll definitely be checking it out. So far, the film looks extremely interesting. My only complaint is the hand-cam format.

Akira is one of those that you hold close to your heart. It was my first anime that got me into anime.

I so sad.

Until more details turn up or when it actually hits theaters, I'm going to keep an open mind on whether this adaptation is going to be good or not.

That's not to say that I have my doubts, but I'm curious just to see how this turns out. Call it "optimism" or "wishful thinking", but that's just how I am.

Truer Words....they have never been spoken.

When will Hollywood learn.

If there is a source material that people have a lot of respect and affection for, DON'T **** WITH IT!

Hollywood will never learn, God I wish I was a big time director, I wish I had my own studio, I would have done justice with the Dragonball movie, hell even the Last Airbender. Eff Hollywood

My tagline says it all about this film and any other adaptation Hollywood trie do and fails before it even starts with bad decisions from producers and studio Execs.

Since the majority of people loathe the casting decisions I'm going to try and shift the discussion to something more interesting.

Who would you cast in the Akira movie?

AFAIC, I would do a 3D CGI movie. I don't have any preferences about the voice cast.

They're white and terrible actors... Cho from Harold & Kamor is 38 and he appears as if he's in his early 20s. As far as I'm concerned, age is a non-issue. Make up and SFX do wonders on screen.

Furthermore, since when has any white individual been named Tetuso or Kei?
