I think I hate my Generation

OMG!! Those girls totally rock! I get so darn high listening to their melodious music. It makes me wanna fly like an angel.

Hey, SB... are you like... totaly serious with your first post on this thread? I can understand how unbearable it must be for you to have to listen to something you don't enjoy for over an hour but to hate a whole generation just because you and your pals don't share the same interest in music, that's just... like what sinewave said... jockish meat-head-y.

Oh, and saying that you have good taste in music is good and theirs isn't... is just arrogant. That said... Long Live Rock 'n Roll!
No the thread is largely facetious, however some are taking it quiet seriously:(...the truth is (and some ought to recognize this by now) if I was really a meatheaded jerk I would not have let them listen to the music they brought.

Your generation (i.e. my generation) doesnt suck. It's your friends that do. I can understand why they'd say no to some of those things, but had a list that pretty much encompasses most tastes in music. And Gavin DeGraw is what they wanted to listen to. :down
It is weird that I really honestly thought I ran the gamet of music with the stuff in my car:confused:

their taste in music is part of who they are shadow boxing. finding commen ground is good between disparate people. your friends balence your lack of understanding of the things they like. but also they lack understanding of you. they aren't being who they are to get girls they get certain types of girls because of who they naturally are.

I don't know what the disconnect is from me and my peers at college is exactly, I mean assume we all had comprable upbringings and surroundings. But this was a few weeks ago. Me and 13 friends celebrated beach weekend by renting a beach house. Me and 4 other guys (all of them I am pretty tight with...or so I thought) rode down together. When they first hopped in the car I had a CD playing, the most masculine music I thought I had to play, House of Pain (famous for "Jump Around" "Put on your sh** kickers" and "Top of the Morning to Ya"..)...Ya know music that makes you wanna kick a$$ and take names. Not only had they never heard them before at all, they did not like it (c'mon I remember growing up on that stuff)

Next from my selection of music I suggest Rage Against the Machine, which they counter is terrible music:eek: ...that was my reaction too.

Next we put in the far less abrasive Hobbastank, which I admit is far to tame...they get board with it fairly quickly.

I suggest Snoop Dogg: NO, Run DMC: NO, No rap, No Korn, No Hard Rock, No mild Rock (apparently they have a problem with Rock)....No to Rolling Stones, No to my Seether CD, No to Kanye West, No to Tupac, No to Bob Dylan...

I think we end up listening to John Mayer and Gavin DeGraw for a while...both CDs I burned for girlfriends to listen to while I drove places.

Finally I get them to agree to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, a crowd pleaser you'd think. We listen for a while, but they get tired of it and suggest that we plug in their IPOD.

What is on their IPOD you ask. Oh its bands like Postal Service, Some techno-emo BS, this techno instrumental music that sounds like its from romantic comedies, singer songwriters like Wheat and stuff like Verticle Horizon.

The next day we get in a friend's car (who had met us down there) and he is listening to (get this) Jimmy Buffet and Music Man (yes the showtunes). What happened to my Generation...they even scoffed at me when I pointed out "Music is about rebellion"

God help us all if this is our future.

I lecture many of your generation, It often makes me sad, poor things :(, but not because of the music.

Woah. That's sweet of him. :) The guy's nice, I'll give him that, but I'd rather listen to Roth than him.
Don't get me wrong I still would rather hear Roth's songs, but Sammy became quite bad ass to me when he signed the poster I made and got it back to me. This summer I'm seeing him solo at an outdoor concert, and I've already decided that I'm taking a bottle of Cabo, leaving a shot of the tequila or two for him and getting him to sign the bottle.

Wow you're friends do have really bad taste in music. I would have been happy with almost every band or singer you named except for a few. But come on saying no to the Stones, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, rock music, Run DMC, Korn, and Rage against the Machine. What is wrong with those people. That is a very wide range of music you offered you'd figure they would like something. Instead they recommend techno emo crap. Wow thats pretty irritating. Screw the damn emos.

Wow. Sounds like we are sort of in the same generation. I'm 25.

And if these guys are anywhere near that age, be it a few years younger or older, and they haven't heard JUMP AROUND by the God Damn House of Pain, then they were either all very sheltered children or didn't watch television...AT ALL. I mean, if they didn't like I could understand...but NOT EVER HEARING IT!!! That's just craziness.

And, man, are you sure this really happened? Because out of all those friends not ONE enjoyed some of that music?

I find it hard that all 13 of these friends are either closet homosexuals or were cut off from listening to anything until they went to college. :O

I mean...if you're from my generation and don't even at least want to bob your head to some Snoop Dogg, especially the stuff from his debut album, Doggystyle...whew. Are all these guys white? Do they know many black guys? That might explain why they don't like rap. Dont fault people in that because rap music is sometimes an acquired taste, especially if you're a whitebread mofo.

You want to know what's crazy? I have NO CLUE who John Mayer or Gavin DeGraw are. They country or something? Because that would explain a whole hell of a lot because I don't listen to country...that is an acquired taste as well.

And guys from our generation getting tired of Red Hot Chili Peppers? Come on.

Man, you should ask some of these guys if they've ever thought about being intimate with a man. Or these guys are just way too girly. I mean, it's cool to be in touch with ones sensitive side and everything...but sheesh...don't know who HOUSE OF PAIN is? That's just insane. They were all OVER the place when the first came out. Jump Around has been in a plethora of movies even.

You should have popped in some Metallica, from the Black album. Everybody likes the Black album...and if they didn't...then they're true girly men. :o

I think more than anything I was in complete shock how all these people had no idea who House of Pain was.

Some people are really out of touch with the music. It's got nothing to do with being a rocker or a rapper, either. I find it VERY DIFFICULT that if you played Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle that all of them disliked it. There had to have been one guy who said, "Hey I remember this! Ha!"

Gin and Juice? Murder was the case? Come on, they were hot singles back in the day.

Dr. Dre's The Chronic? Nothing? Come on...ONE person had to had enjoyed that.

Tu Pac...come on...even some of the whitest, against rap people have enjoyed some Tu Pac songs.

Man, maybe this is a disease plaguing our generation because of all the SUCKY music that's been getting released in the past few years. :o

I've had people who were strictly into rap listen to the Black Album and be like, "That **** is HARD, yo!"

The Black Album is like marijuana...it's the gateway into the hard and heavier stuff. :o

haha i'll take your word for it-i have one friend that used to be strictly rap and pop an i just got her in to rock by way of Lordi!

Damn Straight

Really there is nothing wrong with liking some of everything (i Literally do listen to everything, country, Rock, pop, metal, swing, some rap, alternative, and of course Sinatra) But to not know House of Pain, and not like ANY of the list you put forth...wow...that's just...wow...

Feh. :o

'Tallica's Black album pwns just about any "Color Album" (Besides the Beatles White Album, and possibly the Gray Album) that you'd like to name. :o

Psh, I'm actually not a Metallica fan. I have the most warped taste in rock. I'm more Tool, S.O.A.D., and Korn.

What bugs me is the 16 and 17 year olds I work with have no concept of anything other than the most recent stuff. I'm only 20, but I realize that to know where you're going you've got to know where you've been. I know about and listen to lots of artists that were "before my time:.
