Some of those have stipulations where the age of consent is at 13 in certain cases. A lot of the states not listed are set at 17. Not too many, really, are at 18.

That's with a 4-year older clause. Its only at 13 if the second person is less than 4 years older than the 13 year old. Its 16 for all general cases.

It is and it isn't. There is a fine grey line in the law there. In PA it is 13, but a 13 year old can only have sex with someone no older then 16 ( 14/17, 15/18 ect ). That is when it becomes a crime. There is a three year leway in the age of consent in most states. You just have to be "older" to have sex, and no more then 3 years older then the person if they are under 16. Now if you are 16 in PA it is legal, but there still is a grey area there.

Exactly, that is why on all of those Datline NBC shows they have the girl be under 16. That is where the law comes into place. They wouldn't have a case if the girl was 16 + 1 day old. It is a dumb law but it is a law never the less. And the bad part is you really can't change it. As we all know when ever new laws are passed they always add on other nonsense to these bills. You can never just say this is now a law with out saying this is now a law as long as you let me do this first. Damn goverment BS.

I think the reason popular culture perpetuates 18 as the general age of consent is because no state sets it higher than that. You're all clear in all states at 18, so there's no risk of getting with a 16 year old to find out that she's from some state where its 18 and through legal mumbo jumbo you're a pedo.

There is that too. But that is where the law has it's grey area. If a guy from a state where 18 is the age of consent hooks up with a 16 year old online from a state where 16 is age of consent, does he go to jail if he crosses state lines to have sex?

And lets not forget, that at any age the law also states that a woman can change her mind after the fact at any age. This means a girl can cry rape at any time she wants too. So even if she says yes and is legal, that doesn't mean you can't still go to jail.

I was out with my friends last week, getting trashed, as I often do to silence the voices that tell me that life in general is bleak, the earth is a wasteland, and that I should do everyone a favor by killing as many people as possible, when one of the girls there got a call saying there was a party going down, and we should go. We hang out with this girl sometimes as she works with one of my other friends. She's 18, senior in high school.

So, we go to the party, and after a little while, I sober up enough to realize that none of the girls other than the one are 18 or older, and they're all in high school. I'm 21, and in college. And that's when it hits me. I'm becoming the creepy older guy who hangs out at high school parties that I hate. So of course, this causes me to drink more, which causes me to hit on the high school girls more...It's a vicious cycle really
