In the latest issue of the Marvel NOW! relaunched Guardians of the Galaxy series, senior editor Stephen Wacker teased in the fan-mail section that discussions were being made about a possible Guardians of the Galaxy animated series:

"Now, look, I can't officially confirm that we spent a LOT of time talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon but wouldn't that HYPOTHETICALLY… be amazing?"

"Seriously though, don't ask me about it because it totally didn't happen."

Currently in the Marvel Animated Universe we have Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Avengers Assemble both on Disney XD. Hulk: Agents of S.M.A.S.H will also be arriving in the very near future.

As the first feature film for the Guardians fast approaches, premiering an animated show in the same year would go along way in familiarizing audiences with this rag-tag team of space-Avengers, and as one of Marvel Studios riskiest moves yet, it can use all the help it can get.

Probably so. They want to franchise them out as quickly as possible.

the way that USM is, and the disappointing way that Avengers Assemble is looking to be at the moment and the apparent crapfest that SMASH agents APPEARS to be from what I've seen and read about, I'm not holding much hope for GOTG...

not if it's Loeb, Quesadilla and MOA that's involved with it... that group just does NOT inspire confidence in me with the direction that they've taken the Marvel animated department as of the last year...

The really screwed up cancelling A:EMH.

I hope not since Disney/Marvel have shown that they are not great at making a good Marvel series. Unless they change things around and make it somewhat serious with good animation, more like X-men/A:EMH/S:TAS I have no interest in it.

If Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Spectacular Spider-Man taught me anything, it's that animation quality/character designs aren't everything, as long as the story is good.

Unfortunately, I have absolutely no confidence that the Marvel Animation team knows how to tell good story.

I do miss the days of classic X-Men cartoons.

I liked Wolverine and the X-men. Sucks it only got 1 season.

I can agree with the more serious tone, but I actually think the animation is a lot better in Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble than the shows you mention.

I don't understand how people insist on saying that the animation on Spectacular Spider-Man was poor or that the newer Marvel shows have it better. That show had very fluid and exciting fights. USM has incredibly stiff, boring battles, and don't even get me started on how many animation mistakes there are in Avengers Assemble. It looks and moves very cheaply.

Not to mention the excellent battle with Graviton in Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

The animation itself on SSM was good, but the character designs looked like crap.

Yep. I really wanted to see the AoA.

I disagree. I thought the art style was quite unique and refreshing, particularly when it first came out, and it allowed for more fluid animation. Quite a lot more interesting to look at than Ultimate Spider-Man to me anyways, which seemed content with just copying and pasting designs from the comics or movies and calling it a day.

As for a GotG show, with the current animated regime, I'm not as excited as I should be.

All of the characters on SSM looked bug-eyed. It's like they were all inbred.

I'm surprised that there is not an animated origin movie coming out before the live action movie

The movie is still a ways off, we don't know that there won't be.
