I think Supes is immortal

maybe when I believe the thread is resolved...

but u?
whats ur reason?

It is. It's undeniable that Superman is not immortal, because he died. You can't be immortal and die.

As I understand it from the arguements presented:
Superman is not immortal due to the fact that he died and then there's
supremanz arez imrotal cause his teh roxoz!!1!11!!
That about sum it up? :D

I would think that Superman is more or less ageless than immortal.

He died.

This thread is over.

But he was ressurected by the Kismet one of the prime forces of the Universe and immortal until she died ;). It has been said time and time again including in Infinte Crisis:

"All things come from Superman" in DCU

Jesus dies he's still immortal and reigns in heaven according to Christians.

Synopsis taken from another site

Furious, Superboy Prime pounded on the barrier to our reality but was unsuccessful. A side effect to this assault on the universe were "ripples" that disrupted reality and caused history to repeat itself for several characters. This has been used to explain the recent revamps and strange events in DC Characters history like:

Jason Todd was resurrected.
Superman's multiple origins, including The Man of Steel and Superman: Birthright. Parts of both are to be used.
Hawkman's many incarnations and reincarnations.
Superman's death, resurrection, electrical powers and his return to normality at the hand of the Millennium Giants. Hal Jordan, Jonah Hex, Green Arrow, Donna Troy, Maxwell Lord, the Metal Men, and Batman were also affected in their comic book histories.
The "first appearance" of the original Doom Patrol. They debuted years before, but recently reappeared as though they, along with the resurrected Elasti-Girl, were starting out as heroes for the first time.
Donna Troy's multiple origins after the first Crisis.
The various incarnations of the Legion of Super-Heroes since the first Crisis.

Final Note Action Comics #761 In the thousand years Supes spent in Valhalla he didn't age at all, even though he was there so long he could barely remember his previous life, Thor (an immortal diety if he eats apples) died and was resurrected in this story.

thanks for the link...I hated that supersuit idea.

as for his trip to Valhalla...
isn't that like viking heaven?
when in heaven how can you expect one to die or age...

Comparing Supes to Jesus? Oh-kay, I can see you'er missing a few....
If you read about other mythologies you'll see that even so called immortal gods die. Superman already died fighting Doomsday the Eradicator itself told him that he DID die. Is he God's son/part of God to be resurrected immortal? I don't think so.

The Supersuit was crap. Yes Valhalla is viking heaven, but Thor died there and was resurrected. It was stated time flowed differently there though, however they spent a thousand years there and had to be sent back in time with their memories restored.

as for how he survived in the sun for countless years?

Its said that 700 years from about to day, he went into his fortress in the sun
having gained countless powers from space and time

so one can assume that he's was essentially god like at that point(and didn't need oxygen)

Powers from time ;) If he was already godlike why bother with the ultra Sundip? Although I agree he was probably Godlike beforehand.

Thor died there...or was killed?

He was killed and restored by the other gods.

It's quite a good story. Thor gives Supes the hammer before he dies and Supes returns it to Thor when he is reborn after the final battle with the demons.

Read DC 1Mil to see why and you'll notice that it wasn't a "Sun dip" in the way we say Supe's do it in OWAW. It wasn't to gain power, it was because he retreated from the world.

yea he travelled to the edges of time and space and returned with an infintile(fake word) amout of power or rather powers...
why bother with the sun dip?
he didn't do it to get stronger, he did it cause he wanted to

He was killed and restored by the other gods.
I have no doubt you can be destroyed or erased or "killed" in the afterlife...but i also belive that once your there your pretty much there forever and ageless and stuff like that.

It's quite a good story. Thor gives Supes the hammer before he dies and Supes returns it to Thor if he is reborn after the final battle with the demons.
is this a cross over of some sort?

Gleaned in that context means to collect bit by bit, but you have made a good point. He was already Godlike. Although as with many page notes, phrases like, "no longer quite human" when applied to a Kryptonian non human are amusing.

Fair point, I had forgot that. It was a retreat, however, it did alter him in a drastic fashion.

Does anybody think that Superman maybe acts like a magnet for Sun radiation. It would explain how he is able to absorb so much energy.
