I think he means that some times adapting things to film in certain styles are okay at times. And Nolan does go for a grounded appeal. The core of the comics are clearly there. And going his route has helped "for his view" adapt to the big screen.
I get what he is saying, yet still the soul of the comics are still there in full.
Jesus Christ, really? My ****in bad!A comic book charter?![]()

Lighten up.
I think the idea in TDK was to make Gotham look "cleaner" to show it was healing thanks to the efforts of Batman, Jim Gordon & Harvey Dent, at least that's what I took away from it. We may see a return to the darker, dirtier looking Gotham in the next film to reflect the city's internal turmoil at losing its "White Knight" (Dent) and the manhunt to capture Batman.I dunno. I think i'd rather see a TDK-style Gotham next time.
The Gotham in Batman Begins was dirty, dark and gritty, true to the comic.
TDK was Gotham was basically just Chicago.
However, Batman Begins version of Gotham was a CGI mess compared to the TDK, and also was full of sets. TDK was filmed on location, with very little sets used and was much easier on the eyes.
Thank you. I prefer a realistic type setting to these films. To make me get absorbed into the story, I have to believe it exists or can exist.
My main problem is the last movie had us looking at Chicago & forcing us to try to pretend it wasn't Chicago, despite very distinctive landmarks and backdrops that all SCREAM "Chicago"; there was nothing I saw in any scene that said "Gotham".
