Ice Giants and Other Asguardian Creatures Appreciation

Laufey is a "she" in the myths. She's Loki's mom. His father was Farbauti, and guess what? Marvel turned him into Loki's mom instead, effectively swapping his parents' names. Why? My guess is that they saw Loki was called Loki Laufeyson in some myths and assumed that, like other Norse surnames, that meant Laufey was his father. Except Loki has a matriarchal surname for some reason that I never actually learned. So the names got switched.

But as far as the comics--which are what the movie is adapting, not the myths--go, Laufey has always been Loki's father and Farbauti has always been his mother, so it's a gender-swap once removed. Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and possibly Larry Leiber (Stan's younger brother who scripted a lot of early Thor appearances) are the ones who got it wrong all those decades ago. ;)
Those funky shapeshifting Frost Giants. :D
I don't know how many books back then were actually in print of the Norse myths, so, in the creators defense it could be one of those things where they used books that were wrong or different too.
Heck even my versions of the translated myths have very little on Loki's parents, like there's very little background on Sif.

Vartha,
I discovered that Sif has a son...Ullr, with Thor as his stepfather. Ullr is the god of snow skiing and archery.

That may be true. But Stan Lee himself has admitted that they just made a lot of stuff up back then without any research. Why do you think so many characters' origins basically break down to "something happened with radiation"? :D

heh or circuits POWERING Iron Man's armour? :D

It was the most advanced piece of technology of its day because it was powered by the modern miracle known as TRANSISTORS! :funny:

Yeah He's in some books, I knew that and wish Marvel would do a story on Ullr. lol
There is alot of Norse/Germanic myth lost, since most of the stories were passed down by mouth over writing them down.
The Native Americans have the same problem. They told their stories to each generation, and if they weren't told often alot of the details would change or get lost.
I'm sure Snorri Sturluson wrote down what HE knew, there's no telling what amazing stories and details were lost over the century's with the older Norse/Germanic pantheons. :csad:

I met actor stuntman Joseph Gatt today....he played Frost Giant Grundroth.
