"Identify Thine Self" Part 2
Hype Forum Yearbook

When this forum debuted over two years ago, a band of users formed the nucleus of what would become one the Hype's coolest and most passionately diverse boards. Several mainstays made a serious impact in these parts i.e. Hunter Rider, JMAfan, Iron Maiden, Surfergirl, Malus, Herr Logan, Willie Lumpkin, Captain Stacy, Ratcrawler, Zer00, Grog, CoolAsIce, Kmack, Dragon, GoblinScrier, Fantastic-Boy, VictorVonDoomX, Franklin Richards, HeadOnColliders, SaintofKillers, Wilhelm Scream, Threshold, Retroman, The Milkman, The Ioan Sisters, CCONN, The Julian Fan-Band, Lockjaw, Dog Lips, Killgore, Obi-Wan, Wobbly, RedisNotBlue...just to name a few. ;) Many of us were older (in our 30s and up), but we also had a nice balance of youngins in the mix too.

Looking back, this place teemed with debate over issues ranging from the importance of the Thing's brow, to the ethnicity of the actors, to all things Doom. We had fights. We made up. We had laughs. We shed tears. Yet despite our differerences in opinions--one thing united all of us: our desire to get a good F4 film.

Well, my fellow Hypesters--once again, here we are: at the threshold of the next Fantastic Four film production process...are you ready? Tracking the first film was like riding a rollercoaster--and now we're mounting up the next hill. Once again, time is going to fly around here (and drag on at other times) as we wait for our beloved four to return next summer. And once again we'll be disecting each new tidbit, making polls, and musing over production stills. There will be much to discuss indeed.

So with all that sappiness said (and in keeping with 2004's original "Identify Thine Self" thread), let's reintroduce ourselves so that both old and new forum members can get to know the new power players for 2006/2007.

I'll introduce myself...

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s): Though I love them all, I have a slightly greater affinity for the Invisible Woman and The Human Torch.

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? Started collecting around 1981.

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel: There are several, but my biggest revolves around possible studio micromanagement of the project, production timing, and not giving the director and writers greater creative control.

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Everything! I want to see the Family of Four evolve on all levels. I want to see Doctor Doom finally reach the full glory he was despicably denied in the first film. And I'm really looking forward to finally seeing the Silver Surfer in action. So far, much of what I've heard sounds good.

I could be wrong but I think this thread is only for the people he listed, who had been here a long time. That said it would be nice to have one where we newer members could identify ourselves since we will hopefully be parts of this community in time to talk to the younglings for FF3 :p

I can't speak for Caliph, but I'm pretty sure he meant it to be open to anybody who wants to let us know a little more about themselves.

I think his reference to the people who have participated in the past was because we were a community and we knew each other pretty well a few years ago, and I think he's hoping to get some of that feeling back with the new people . . .

. . . and if he didn't mean it that way . . . screw him and his elitist attitude.:pLOL

This is simply an extension of what he started in the first forum, this is indeed for EVERYONE to give their name and alittle bit about yourself...

I know this for sure was his intention.....;)

OOC: Well in that case....

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? Only about a year or two, but it should be noted I am obsessive and have read a LOT of comics in that time.

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel: Doctor Doom; will he be done right or not? If he is, I can forgive it even if the movie is astonishingly bad

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Latveria, Doctor Doom being the REAL Doom, GALACTUS!

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? on and off for a few years but loved the toon.

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel:
For me it's a mix of production time and movie runtime,i hope they have enough time to get everything they want done and to a high quality and i also hope that Fox don't insist on a 1 hour 40 runtime meaning character scene cuts like last time

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel:
The 4 develop as a team and family with key relationships like Ben/Sue explored.SS and his SFX along with a sky battle against the Torch and last but not least Full armour Doom

SHH Code Name: mattc

Real Name (Optional): Matt (Duh!)

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s):Sue Storm, Johnny Storm

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? Just starting if I am honest, which does make me feel inferior to a lot of you guys. The movie introduced me to the characters.

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel:
My two biggest concerns are the runtime and production time.

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Everything. I am really excited to see the family again, to see how they have grown and continue to grow. I am looking forward to bigger action, higher stakes, more sinister Doom and SS! Hopefully a peak at Galactus too!

No need to feel inferior at all.....there are some great people around here with a lifetime of history on these 4 people...:)

How long have you been reading the Fantastic Four Comics? for about 22 years now..they were the first comic i ever read and I have been hooked ever since
Biggest concern about the FF sequel: straying to far from the source material...I want a real Doom most of all..

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s):I like them all equally, but I always wanted to be Johnny.
How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? Since about 1971 - I have issues 90-210 still, plus lots of the annuals. I stopped reading them in eighties, when I got married, but recently have started again in the past three years.
What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel:
I just want the cheesiness removed (no dogs covering their eyes) and to see more kick-butt fighting with villians. I also hope that it will not be over-analyzed or over-compared to other franchises.
What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Dude - I don't know if I can even handle seeing the Fantasticar - I've waited my whole life to see that. My joke with the last movie was that I was turning 40 on July 5th and I would probably have a heart attack and never even get to see them on the big screen! I can't wait to see them again...

*takes mike*

ahem..."thump,thump"...is this on?

ok, hello all. I've been active on here since the inception of this site as Spider-man Hype! under different screen names. I've been a comic collector since around '74 when I was 8. Spider-man was my original favorite, but took 2nd to the Thing for a year or two during the early run of MTIO and the Byrne FF issues (around the time of the Thing exoskeleton). Now my 12-year-old son, through no coaxing on my part, now loves to read Marvel, too. He is all into the Annihilation series. Me? I'm stupidly playing into marvel's little money trap by buying all of the Civil War issues (I swear, this will be the last time! Cheap gimmick to make extra money while doing stuff like having Spidey reveal his ID in front of the whole world! UGH!!!) along with my regular subscription. OK, enough of my rant...

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s): The Thing. When I was about 9 he was my favorite for a bit until Spidey took back over!
How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? '75ish
What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel: The director's lack of vision as a filmmaker. FF should have been extraordinary but alas wasn't! Hope they improve:
a) The look of the Thing, mainly his size and proportions
b) The look of Doom
c) the cgi for Reed
d) the portrayal of Doom as "menacing".
What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Bigger, more powerful Ben, more authoritative Reed who is SMARTER than Doom, and more Stan as Willie!!!

BY the way, Willie, which All-star resort are you waiting for the bus at? Stayed at 'movies' 2 years ago. Going in September for a long weekend.

SHH Code Name: Franklin Richards

Kevin

Sex: Male. Definately Male. :D

Age (Optional): 34

Country: USA! USA! USA!

Occupation: Actor / DJ

Hobbies: Comics. Karaoke. Literature.

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s): I've always had an affinity for The Thing.

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics? 1975. I learned how to read with an FF comic book.

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel: I get worried that the franchise will be swayed by the all mighty dollar.

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: I hope that the more we advance in this series, the more the characters will become beloved by the general audience. They are already a part of my family. I want them to become a part of the worlds family.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize to my fellow FF forum members for deceiving them in the past. I portrayed a role that had already been established before alot of you came around. There was no malice intended and I'd like to thank you all for eventually accepting me back into the fold.

I won't forget it.

And remember, "You Must Unlearn What You Have Learned".

This is a film BASED on the Fantastic Four. So take it for what it is.

It's Clobberin' Time!!!

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Heh. We've been here for a long time, haven't we ? I used to love my time on these boards back then (before the movie came out). Of course, I loathed the movie when I finally saw it (mainly because of Doom's treatment), but it didn't change my view on these boards. I'm glad to see you still remember me, Lightning. ;)

And i'm also glad most of us are still alive (though I haven't been posting much in the last year, except maybe in most anime, godzilla and asian threads in the misc forum).

But ever since it was revealed Galactus, the surfer would be in the movie, and that Doom would be back with now an armor and a closer respect to his comic book self, I am beginning to begin to be interested again. (i'll try being here the more I can, but I have difficulty these days, since i've been trying to finish editing my new movie).

So, anyway, enough rambling, here's me in a nutshell:

SHH Code Name: Thesaintofkillers (named after, well, the saint of killers in the preacher comics)

Real Name (Optional): Frederic

Sex: Male

Age (Optional): 22

Country: Canada (quebec)

Occupation: Horror filmmaker and saleman in a dvd store.

Hobbies: Making movies, drawing, watching movies, comics and animation.

Who Is Your Fave Fantastic Four Character(s): Doom, heh.

How Long Have You Been Reading Fantastic Four Comics?: Started when I was 10, with John Byrne's run (old issues. I only got hook to recent FF comics with Claremont's run, or rather, issue 25 with Doom in it. Nothing spectacular, but that's when I got hook to doom, (and the FF)). Byrne's run is still my favorite one (by and far). Only Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's stake on them come close (and my best Doom's saga is still Warren Ellis' Doom 2099 run).

What Are Your Biggest Concerns About The Fantastic Four Sequel: Everything. From the previous actors I didn't really like at first to the new characters being introduce. I see potential in Chicklis's the thing and Ewan's the human torch, which I both enjoyed. But for the team to really work, the 4 of them needs to be equal. Alba and Ioan really needs to improve their characters. If they do, the team might finally become enjoyable. I really hope they do, for the chemistry. I also hope we get to see hint about Franklin for the third movie. They are a family, and Franklin is a very important part of that, imo. Aside from that, the FX are a big concern. A 3D Silver surfer is a bad idea, personnally. But my biggest concern is Doom once again. They butchered him beyond recognition in the first movie. How much further can they get now ?

What You Look Forward To Seeing In This Sequel: Doom kicking everyone's ass, and then some. I look foward to Doom, Doom and more Doom. Heh.

Next ?

Good to see you back Thes, hope we get the full works for Doom this time

Welcome to the new folks:)

You know thing 2005 was often overzealous for the FF but like any family you have to ovelook the flaws with people sometimes. We all have our ways, I know that sometimes I could identify with his outrage, I remember taking great offense at eberts FF review which I thought at the time was like a hack job as he seemed real unfamiliar with the characters, but I know Thing 2005 ruffled the feathers of the established forum posters who are obviously battle tested and know how to keep the peace.

I noticed Thing 2005 (Carp Man) has really been evenhanded of late, cutting the DC fanboys some slack (well the BO has been kinda cruel) and he has really carved himself out a niche with his statisticle analysis.

Hopefully the inflation argument is dead and we can have a really good year arguing lol.

This film is going to make or break the FF I think. Doing ok at the box office is not good enough I think. I hope that Tim gives us a classic, Galactus is a special story that if done right could be one of the classics in movie history.

And it is time to stop the BS by the producers, If they are doing the Galactus Story do the Galactus Story by Lee/Kirby.

Anything else would be uncivilized.

If Fox gives Tim some space I think he can pull it off (ummm.. can somebody get me a Rothman doll and some pins.......... lol, just kidding Roth).

and I am a newbie myself although i used to come by and surf the hype for a while, I never really got into posting in the forums until just before the movie came out as well. I liked the insightful and committed comments of the established people however and the care they have for the characters. Reminded me of why I would skip lunch to buy comics.

The stories were just so awe inspiring.

You know for some people these characters have been inspiring and that is what movies are all about.

When I was a kid I walked out of Superman: The Movie feeling uplifted, I really hope that FF 2 can do the same again for me and many others
